  1. [Mike's knowledge of the rivers and steelhead is vast and well respected by his fellow steelheaders on the trip. When we arrived on the thursday and after we brought our clothes, food, sleeping bags, beer etc into the house. We proceded to set up the rods .. That's when I noticed that the guys were going to mike for advice on the bait, rigs etc and seeking his approval on their various set-ups and choice of locations to fish!

After a hard days fishing ,..He's tying flies for the crew for the following day

These flies accounted for a lot of the fish caught on the trip.... one of the flies that he made was a 'stone flie'...not sure what the proper names of the others were.. but I called them "purple haze" and the "green fluffy one"

  2. Hi All,

first off I'd like to say a big "Thank You" to Mike Dragone,... not only did he invite me up to fish with his crew of steelheaders...(what a great bunch of guys they are !!) he also set me up with most of the bits and pieces that were needed .provided me with sound advice on the purchase of rod and reel etc.. even gave me a list of the clothes needed to stay warm, in general made it very easy for me to fish for the steelhead.

Here's a few pics of "Mr Steelhead" himself

  3. One time I lost two rigs do to Bluefish taking my maize.

Rob.. I think I had another two on.... after I landed the mirror i recast that rod. (It had a 16mm pop-up on) and soon after took off. Had a fish on for a few seconds but lost it due to a cut hook link, and it didn't go thru any snags !!

Later on I had a fish on the corn rod and it fought like the bluefish that I'd caught..but pulled the hook :yourock:

  4. Hey Guys, I was fishing the tidal Hudson on Sunday,.... the first run of the day came within minutes and was a low double mirror !!yippie !! About 10 mins later the other rod rips off.. then slows dn... then rips off again. Short while later I have the fish in the net . This is a first for me.. Bluefish on maize :yourock:

  5. Hey Carphd,.. tell Ben ..well done !!. We stayed at Coles Creek too .. site 191. Mike Dragone and I fished on Weds nite at the site but we were having problems with the weed etc. Did you catch any fish from your camp site ?? I thought I heard an alarm on weds nite ( definitely wasn't ours  )

I have some pics that I'll add later !

    All the best... Val

  6. Nice one Miguel everything looks good

    shed seems leveled too

you sure carp bait is allowed in the new car

just needs a roof rack to attach the stinky net and mat to :yourock:

Miggs... The fall is for fishing.... basement remodel is definitely a winter project :o

  7. Thanks again to everybody, that spot is really incredible and that was just my first trip!!

If anybody comes down there to fish it, i'll definately meet up with them......i'll most likely already be down there though :P

I also forgot to mention....... after the battle with the 31.2 I brought it back to my unhooking mat. Then my buddy says "......where is my pole?????"

Apparently he had a run while I was fighting my fish, and now it is residing somewhere in the Hudson :yourock:

My new PB is dedicated to the memory of my buddy's fishing pole, you will be missed.

Well done snags !! I've fished there many times (attended my first CAG fish-in there :P )...caught loads of fish ..but never had anything over 26..

Tell your buddy to not feel so bad... I lost a nice rod and reel below the dam years ago to a feisty carp and an unset bait runner :P .. I replaced that with an even better/nicer more expensive set up .. and then lost that above the dam (lock 2 ) less than a year later  ( have yet to recover from that one :o )

Anyway... Congrats on the PB,..keep up the good work and maybe treat yourself to some alarms :P !!...

...... All the best.. Val G.

  8. Well done to all who participated..... I was going to make a donation (enter  ) but left it too late!..Will give it a go next year !!

Congrats to the winners with their very impressive fish !!!..

    All the best.... Val

    PS... great idea Louis !!
