  1. Short version, but a long picture heavy post.

Monday we each landed two middling males.

Tuesday Franklin was up to his old tricks and put the skunk smell on me.

Wednesday was all Franklin .............. almost.

He has been waiting almost a week for his pair of new Grey's to arrive and they did Tuesday.

I thought that was great. Not the he got new rods, but the fact that they were virgin rods and everyone knows virgin rods don't catch fish the first time out.

They look nice and he threw them like a distance champion. About an hour into our session he got a DOUBLE RUN. So much for the virgin rod theory.

    post-2842-0-50616800-1335991887_thumb.jp

So, no problem, I've got good pickups and dang good method.

However, the carp didn't seem to think so and he ran off a string without me getting a single run.

Now I must digress a bit before posting the next few pictures.

Those who read my posts know that Vinny Jefferies paid a visit to DE last week and he landed a DE PB of 27.1oz and was VERY proud of it as it beat his friend Scott's DE PB.

The same day I landed a nice common weighing 26.8oz.

Both fish were weighed on my digital Fox scales VERY carefully.

In addition, I witnessed his catch and he witnessed mine. In addition to us, Franklin was also present.

I posted the pictures of our two commons on FB CAG and among the likes and comments was one that said they looked "suspiciously" the same. I let it go at the time as I think it would have been better worded and maybe English wasn't the posters native language.

So here is Frankins' big fish of the day.

    post-2842-0-68213100-1335992539_thumb.jp

Okay now that you have seen Franklins fish, I'll also tell you that DE DNR issues citation based upon length and there isn't even a place on the form weight or girth.

Therefore, let me be very clear. Neither Franklin or I are submitting this fish for a citiation, but to be sure everyone is happy, here are two more shot of the fish (as suggested by the FB poster) to prove its length.

Franklin ended his string of 7 with this carp.

    post-2842-0-34992800-1335992875_thumb.jp

His biggest mistake was not going home at that point and enjoying the smell of a skunk on me. However, I managed what was probably the heaviest of the day, although shorter than his.

    post-2842-0-28704500-1335993041_thumb.jp

If the rain holds off, and we DO need the rain, we will try again in the morning.

  2. HP at 0700.

    Hoppy, Franklin and myself.

0800 found that gate had been closed for a 'walking race'.

0900 gates seemed to be open, cars coming in including Moon and Darius.

1300 No carp. No bites. No fun. Went home.

Got home to find four r&w carp juice flavors had arrived.

    butternut peach

    ripe cherry

    red hot vanilla butternut

    xxx hot green monster

The last two say "pick up juice". Can anyone tell me what that means? I just picked flavors based upon name and no special criteria......... just wanted to try them.

    Craig

  3. We met at 0900. One old man and one young man didn't care for the slight breeze in their face. I don't think it was over 30mph, but I was out voted and off we went 45+ miles across the state into MD.

Lines in the water a bit before 1030.

Change of baits and lines back into the water.

Change of baits and lines back into the water.

    etc etc etc.

    Finally, near 3:00 I had a run.

I say "I", but it was between me (age 70) and Vinnie (about 33). Anyone want to take bets who got there first and landed the poor little critter?

    post-2842-0-05945100-1335569981.jpg

And with that monster, our time fishing with Vinnie was over too soon.

Arriving at home and getting ready for the trip to Hains Pt tomorrow, I received a text from Vinnie. He is free lining up in Dover.

    post-2842-0-94292800-1335570065.jpg

I was in the midst of writing this when I received another text.

    post-2842-0-68588700-1335570161.jpg

Gonna close now before he catches any more. :D

  4. Franklin and Vinny started without me this morning. Which is okay considering I skunked them yesterday. (That does have a nice ring to my ear.)

I arrived about 30 minutes after they did as I had to ship a spod rod off to its new owner.

I started out as a nice day with a slight wind and ended up in the low 60s with a nasty, in our face, wind.

Wind not withstanding, Franklin started us off with the first fish.

    post-2842-0-15820500-1335393770_thumb.jp

The next two (here again skill tells) were mine. Nothing special just numbers and fun to play.

    post-2842-0-74764300-1335393830_thumb.jp

The next fish takes a little explaining. This was the third time fishing with us and contrary to what is normal, I have been fortunate to put more on the bank than Franklin. So, Vinny has the mistaken impression that I'm pretty good. So, he asked about my method and method of fishing. He ended up using one of my PVA rigs with my hooks and PVA and method.

A while later he had a run on that pole and was very quiet with no talking at all. As it got close, Franklin, said it was a pretty good fish. As soon as it was in the net, pictures taken and weighed Vinny left for the outhouse. I guess it was just too much for him...........

At 27.1 oz he was happy as a lark as it was his first fish in DE AND bigger than any caught by Scott O in DE.

We settled in for another run, when I looked up and not 4' away TWO cranes came walking down the sidewalk not at all concerned about Vinny or I in the immediate area. They took a couple step onto the grass and pecked around for a bit and then wandered off to where three ladies were talking. As the ladies walked off they pecked around a bit more and flew off. It was almost like they had escaped from a zoo and didn't care about people.

    post-2842-0-01400400-1335394930_thumb.jp

That excitement over, Franklin got back to catching carp.

    post-2842-0-45284000-1335394518_thumb.jp

His last carp of the day was his biggest, which I would estimate in the 18# range.

    post-2842-0-08603300-1335394578_thumb.jp

Franklin had an errand to run and had to leave.

A few minutes I had the pleasure of putting this one on the mat.

    post-2842-0-53993500-1335394640_thumb.jp

So Franklin and I each put three on the mat, but Vinny had the biggy. I think we all enjoyed the day, but I have to admit Vinny seemed to enjoy it the most.

We are due for rain tomorrow and Friday is still up in the air. We are due for Hains Pt on Saturday.

    `

  5. VERY exciting day.

Had to take several Valium just to drive home.

Just imagine fishing with Vinnie who has sat at the feet of Scott who we all know is a master carper, regardless of other failings. Franklin and I hung on his every word.

Then think of Franklin, who has somewhat of a reputation among CAG as a fishing machine.

    Then look at this carp.

    post-2842-0-42172200-1335302415.jpg

You can't begin to imagine how 'high' I was when we had packed up and I realized I had SKUNKED 'he who has sat at the feet of a master' and the CAG 'fishin machine'. Yes, skill has FINALLY won out. I ruled this day.

No matter what happens tomorrow, today will live on for a long time................ :jumpy:

  6. Franklin called yesterday and said we weren't going fishing as it was supposed to rain and he was going to show our guest around various swims.

So, I turned my phone off and slept a LONG time, got up and put on some light clothes as I wasn't going out today.

Phone rings and Franklin says he and our guest were enroute as I was either dead or dying as I wasn't answering my phone.

Long story short, I made method, packed some drinks, got an extra chair for our guest and took off for Federalsburg as he wanted to catch carp in MD and DE this week.

We set up in hurricane force VI winds in sub zero temps and we put lines in.

I couldn't hear the alarms, even if they would have rang, due to chattering teeth.

A couple of hours into the session, Franklins bladder screamed for attention and off he went leaving me in charge of his lines.

He was just far enough away so as to not come back when I see his line tighten and rod tip dip. Braving the hurricane and freezing temps I stood up and set the hook. I offered it to our guest and he took it faster than bigbird can do a drive by. Which is VERY fast. Here is the first one of the day.

    post-2842-0-67198000-1335219894_thumb.jp

For those who don't recognize him, say Hi to Vinnie from Lowell, MA.

Excitement over and everyone is huddling out of the wind when I find my heater is out of propane. I see one of my new indicators fall and holler for Vinnie to get the fish as I am cold.

I don't think he thought about it for more than .05 seconds and he had it.

    post-2842-0-79549100-1335220050_thumb.jp

Time passed and my hair started freezing so when I had another run, I just yelled for someone to get it. For a really tall guy, Vinnie can move pretty quick and beat Franklin to the rod.

    post-2842-0-40413500-1335220186_thumb.jp

My method had frozen into a solid mass and our hooks shattered like they had been dipped in liquid nitrogen so we packed up to leave and try it tomorrow. Franklin went to pull his second rod out of the water when off it went. Of course, Franklin put the biggest of the day on the bank. Just guessing I think it was 18-20 lb.

    post-2842-0-90344800-1335220361_thumb.jp

Tomorrow we are trying it again, but I WILL have warmer clothes on.

  7. Last I heard Ontario was in Canada. It wasn't all of Canada, just a piece of Canada.

Unless the world has changed overnight, Ontario is smaller than the US.

So, how is it that Ontario seems to be taking over CAG?

Every where I look I see...

Blah Blah Blah .... new PB..... Ontario.

Blah Blah Blah .... fish in .......Ontario.

Blah Blah Blah .... went fish with ..... Ontario

Blah Blah Blah .... anyone going to.... Ontario

Blah Blah Blah .... Look at these beauties... Ontario

Blah Blah Blah .... Fished with ....yesterday..... Ontario

Well I think enough is enough. I don't think there can be more than 5-6 posting from Ontario. Heck, with the winter temps up there I don't think more than that can survive let alone catch the fish that are being posted.

Folks, Horace, I and a few others report our outings. Now Horace is a straight shooter and I admit to stretching a point every now and then but we need more lies fables stories of OUR carping experiences. Most of us have cell phones or cameras to record our magnificent captures and it isn't hard to use words like PB, Huge, Gigantic, Monster and 'long as my leg' and bigger around than my waist.

On a side note, due to recent events MANY Eastern US CAG all time and annual records are open for the asking.

So let's show those folks from Ontario that we aren't letting them take over CAG. Go out and fish and make a report.

P.S. Just to let you know those posts from Ontario are from folks using just ONE pole to fish with. If you can't beat that, you need to make a donation to CAG hide your shame. Donations of this type will not be linked to a name to protect you from the folks in our far North.

  8. Came down with food poisoning last night. Just picture Mt. Vesuvius blowing at both ends and you will understand how my night went.

With the night behind me I thought I should have a good day, but once again, I had not counted on the skill (luck?) of Franklin.

I will give him a lot of credit for trying to make me feel better. He let me hook and land the first three.

    post-2842-0-29481300-1334871871_thumb.jp

the next one went about 18#

    post-2842-0-78690500-1334871890_thumb.jp

At that point I was planning how to write up ME skunking Franklin.... I should have known better. Even this little critter kept it from happening.

    post-2842-0-09472300-1334871962_thumb.jp

So, if I can't skunk him, I concentrated on just whupping him bad.

The score is 6 to 5 and he is keeping an eye on the scissors I'm carrying that I use to "cut line" that may be harming carp...........

So with one eye on me and one on his poles he continues the onslaught.

With me pitching a fit about him hogging the whole river and not letting me have a chance, he pulled his rods and said he was NOW ready to go home.

OH, by the way, remember me mentioning the last one I caught being chunky? Here is another view of the same fish................. my new PB and new DE CAG record.

  9. Franklin showed up with another 'fishin' shirt so I knew my day was off to a bad start.

He tested his pick ups on a couple of yeller bellies and then got down to business a couple hours after our arrival.

HOWEVER, the carp gods were kind and sent a little greedy bastid to my hook and I took advantage of his stupidity.

    post-2842-0-87674800-1334695934_thumb.jp

Having finally caught a fish, my head swelled so big it put pressure on my bladder so I walked up the road a bit to use the facility.

When I came out, I see Franklin playing a fish and it looks like the fellow who was near by is beside my rods also playing a fish. Those sneaky carp gods had sent me another and I wasn't there to play with it. However, Franklin and our cat fisherman permitted me to net both of their carp.

Time passed and Franklin had a few runs, but no hook ups.

It seems my run of luck is all the talk of the town and its varmints. Here you will see a 'friend' came by to offer me some bait, but when I went over to get his picture he took my eel back and ran away. Again, just my luck.

    post-2842-0-11463200-1334696402_thumb.jp

Franklin finished out the day with a couple more.

More tomorrow. Going to try out some new alarms. I'm told they are like pied pipers to carp. They just bite to hear them sing. I sure hope so.

  10. It was a very nice day in Milford, DE today. I got to admire the puffy white clouds and pretend I could see animals. I got exercise dodging seagull #### as it fell from the hundred or so that felt I was in their bombing/straffing range. It was so exciting that a pretty good size black snake came by TWICE to see it I was alive.

Now that you know all about my day, here is Franklins.
