  1. Fly fishing for carp is getting popular in New York so I decided we need a page for it. I don't expect any one to give away their secret locations but pleas post you photos, reports, fly's and techniques Thank you.

  2. Wan I was at Kissena park Hosting the 2011 fish in I noticed the catch and release signs wer no longer posted. I did sum research and contacted the New York City Department of parks & recreation and sent them a letter.

    Thair reply ,

The signs at Kissena Lake are currently being replaced. Once the signs are completed, they will once again be posted.

Thank you for bring this matter to our attention. If you have any other questions or concerns, please contact our Park Manager, Eric Goetz at (718) 539-6657.

  3. Always good to get that first one reguardless of size!

As for turtles I know for an absolute fact big snappers feed at night. I have caught many on cut bait in the dark while catfishing. I ain't sure what kind of turle you have there but I know it ain't a snapper like we got here in West by God!

Yep, I would think the snappers feed at night but one lake I fished last summer was full of sliders and I caught about seven of them off the top. Then it got dark and not one was caught ,they all vanished.

  4. slider soup????

I find that once the turtles move in on your bait it's usually best to move to a different location if traveling light. Also if a lake is Over populated with turtles it might be best to fish at night if they are becoming a problem

, Turtles don't feed at night from my experience .

  5. I Woke up late today and was doing nothing but sitting around Feeling like a stick in the mud. Finale I decided I was going to grab my float rod and try for sum carps. I did not get out of my home in till 10:00am. After a quick stop to pick up four cans of sweet corn I was on my way. I decided wan I was driving to try a Long Island town park that has eluded me several times in the past. At this lake I only hooked into one carp about two years ago but it was lost after getting snagged in overhanging branches. I was back the following weekend with team Sorano and He managed to hook a carp but after a nice run the Hook pulled.

Finally I arrived at the lake and cast out my 0.8g crystal wagglep with two small split shots next to the float and a third small split shot four inches from the hook.

The third split shot sank the float then I slid the float up the line to adjust the depth so just the top of the float was sticking out of the water. To my surprise I seen sum fat carp jumping but then the wind picked up and after sum time I decided to climb over the fence on the off limits northern side of the lake. After a short waking I cast my float out about 10 feet and adjusted my float to find that the water was about twelve feet deep, then I throw out sum sweet corn . After sum time I looked at my watch and it was one o'clock pm. I was sitting their thinking the lake has beaten me so I decided to check my bait, I looked at my float and it showed no sign of a bite. I lifted my line out of the water and felt sum resistance and then the pull of a fish, I knew I had a carp on as it bolted for the cover of the overhanging trees but I wasn't having that and after a short but grate fight the carp was in the net. It was not a big carp but on this day it might as well have been a new personal best. It was such a good feeling to finale defeat this Lake. After sum time the turtles moved in and I decided to call it a day. On the way out of the park I talked to some local bass anglers and they told me they never seen any one catch a carp from the lake although they have seen some big carp jumping and they told me that there are 30s in the lake. This isn't the first time I have heard rumors of 30s in this Lake but I would have to see it to believe it. I drove home feeling very satisfied that I finely caught a carp from this extremely hard lake. If any cag members want to give this lake a try PM me and I will gladly give you the name of the park and location, But I warn you this lake is hard .

  6. I took a rest from carp fishing on Saturday and I went up to a New York reserve to fish with my friend Bob from his aluminum boat. The bait we were using was live shiners suspended a few feet under a float. The action was slow and my friend only managed to catch one Bass of twelve inches, so later in the day we put the boat away and went over to a different reservoir. First cast, I catch a yellow perch. Then Bob cast out with his light pole and the line sum how detaches from the end of his pole, shortly after we see his float go down and all is lost. I continue fishing then my float goes down so I set the hook and bring in a nice Crappie. After closer inspection I notice my hook is not in the fish's mouth and it is entangled with a line. The line turned out to be Bobs lost rig with crappie attached to the end. Later on we ended the day with that one crappie and five yellow perch. On the way home Bob and I Had a friendly and funny debated about whom had caught the Crappie. He seed it was on his line so he had caught it. I debated that I caught the crappie because it came in on my rod and was detached from his pole. What do you think?

  7. I plane to visit the park sooner or later; this may be a grate location for a fish in. I can see the head lines (CARP ANGLER HIT NEW YORK CITEY) did the 30s survive the draining of the lake? Also do you use an indicator wan fly fishing for carp?

  8. Thanks guys, I used good old sweet corn for bait and started out with a small insert crystal. Then a slight wind was pushing my line across the top of the water causing the float to go under. Then I went up to the next size crystal waggler 0.8g 2BB.. (Did the Job). If the wind would have got stronger than I would have went up in size, and so on, and so on.
