  1. I won't eat fresh water fish the risk is not worth it but I do eat saltwater fish. This is from the dec Book. Genera advisory eat no moor than one meal of one half pound of fish per week. Women of childbearing age, infants and children under the age of 15 should not eat any fish from fresh water. Higher mercury levels- eat none, northern pike, pickerel, walleye, Largemouth bass and small mouth bass, yellow perch and carp longer then 10 inch. I did not see the advisory for the reservoirs wan I do I will post it. So if it's a fish of 1/2 pound that you eat you're good for one week but if that fish was 5 pounds your dun for the month. It's not one fish a week it's 1/2 pound a week or one meal a month.

    reservoir

Ok . For the reservoirs it's one meal per month. go to new York state department of health. (Health advisory) Thay say one meal of fish a month.

Mercury can enter water bodies from a variety of sources, including runoff from land and deposition from air. The specific source of mercury in each of these reservoirs has not been determined. Fish accumulate mercury from the food they eat and directly from the water. As a result mercury concentrations are typically much higher in fish than in water in witch thy live in. In addition to these New York City reservoirs, elevated levels of mercury in fish have been documented in remote areas of the Adirondacks, as in developed areas.

Most of the mercury in the flesh of fish is in the form of methyl mercury is more of a concern for children and unborn babies because their nervous system are still developing. People who ate fish that contained large amounts of methymercury hade permanent damage to the brain, kidneys and fetus. Some recent research on populations that eat a large amount of fish finds that methylmercary can affect children's memory, attention and language development. So the older the fish the moor mercury they have in them. Carp can live to 50 years so don't eat the big carp. They are old. Old fish = lots of mercury. Small fish are not as old they hade les time to build up lots of mercury in their flesh........

The primary contaminants of concern in New York State fish are mercury and PCBs. Other contaminants such as cadmium, chlordane, DDT, dieldrin, dioxin and mirex are also concerns in fish from some of the State's waterbodies. These chemicals build up in your body over time. Health problems that may result from these contaminants range from small changes in health that are hard to detect to birth defects and cancer. Women who eat highly contaminated fish and become pregnant may have increased risk of having children who are slower to develop and learn. Chemicals may have a greater effect on developing organs in young children or in the unborn child. Some chemicals may be passed on in mother's milk. Women beyond their childbearing years and men face fewer health risks from contaminants than do children.

and lets not forget about the Hudson’s pcb,s. A proven cancer causer and its in all the fish of the river.

So why do they guys still eat the carp ? Maybe its ignorance or maybe that dot know about the health advisory or maybe they just don't care about what they put in to their bodes.

  2. to give confidential info of illegal activities to NY DEC call (1-800-tipp-dec) to speak to a dispatcher.

when a violation is observed keep a distance from the violater. write everything down, what they lookt like, how they dressed, kind of vehicle and license nimber, color.

Dont approch or attemrt to confront the suspects. they may be dangeruse and could destroy evidenceor simply evade officers in foreward.

  3. Fish carcass disposal law

It is illegal to discard any fish carcass, or parts thereof, into the freshwaters of the state within 100 feet of shore or upon any public or private lands contiguous to and within 100 feet of such water, except:

    • On private lands by owners of such lands.
    • If properly disposing into suitable garbage or refuse collection systems or by burial.
    • Where incidental cleaning of fish for consumption is permitted. However, resulting waste may not be disposed of within 100 feet of any public launching or docking site unless into a suitable refuse collection system.
    • Live fish and fish which must be returned to the water because of size limits, open seasons and creel limits are not subject to the fish carcass disposal law.

  4. what you have witness is the meat eaters in action. One of the rezones we don't like to post swim names on cag. They's guys cleaned out most of the lakes on long Island. If it was freshwater lake it's two rods per person and you cold have called the dec and reported them. You still can call the DEC and report them and they might start checking the location. Also I think their is a law saying you cant clean fish and throw the guts in the water and if it was a brackish water I don't think their is a rod limit but I will have to look in to this for you and I will get the dec number for you. What you can do is call the dec .

  5. You cant can pair people killing snake heads to people telling you to kill carp, the snake heads are truly invasive species, however the carp are not and those that say this are misinformed or ignorant , but like others have seed having articles about them in the NACA might make others think we are an invasive species club. Also carp are not invasive because the U.S. Fish Commission and almost every one of the state governments in our land undertook one of the greatest far reaching campaigns to establish the carp everywhere in our country. (this is the Difference )
