  1. Oh and hairwig before you say it.... I know I need to spend less time watching it and more time on the water.

No,Rob. I said "less time reading about carp fishing.More time knitting ". :-)

  2. Your best bet is to look on Youtube- Fox and Korda have loads of instructional videos featuring all kinds of rigs.

I agree. They will demonstrate the safe way to construct them as they can be dangerous to carp if one does it wrong.

  3. What a beautiful day out there today. What more can one ask for than spend a couple of hours fishing with a friend and maybe even land a carp or two!

Donato and I met up later in the morning at a local swim. We set our gear up. Bought some horrible tasting coffee and eventually cast our rigs over a light bed of particles. There were signs of fish activity right away. Even a fish or two topping. Our confidence was pretty high.

It's been a while since I last fished the spot. It's usually way too busy to fish comfortably (IMO) as it's a popular venue for tourists, strollers and zombies. Not to forget plenty of boats usually dock there to get access to the coffee shop just around the corner but today the 'coast was clear' and seemed like a good choice at the time.

I was the first carper to get a fish on. I guess I didn't set my quick drag properly so when I had a run the rod lashed around like a whip. Lucky for me I was sitting close to my pod so it all ended well. This beauty common was well over 20 and fought well.

Not long after Donato's rod flys off resulting in another fish over 20 pounds. Both of our fish were real porkers that gave us two porkers big smiles!

    Donato's second catch

Lucky for us the pedestrian traffic was minimal and the boats stayed away this time around. We both soaked up the humid free, hot weather having a good laugh in the meantime. Both of us went on to catch another fish each and survive what the shop considers coffee? lol

    Cheers, Mark

We used binders to record the information for each species. Of course Carp were #1 :)

  5. It's obvious Daniel and Scott used the derby to plug WCB. Daniel and Scott also took the opportunity to plug their Ontario Carp Hunters group (OCH).The H.H.W.T had no issues with it.

You make a strong comment but I don't really see any damage done by the guy's taking advantage of an oppurtunity to act on their sponsership??They gave free baits and tackle to kid's who asked. They/we helped tie rigs and bait up. There were a number of pods set up by some local carpers in front of the stalls. The kid's got to witness our friends alarms scream off when the carp were biting. Daniel and Scott also brought lot's of gear for a 'show and tell" display. The kids had the chance to touch, feel, smell and use baits used for carp fishing. The kid's didn't care what company name was on the jar. It was awesome to watch the kids get excited to see carp flopping around in the carp cradle at the weigh station. They were amazed to see fish bigger than the small fish they were used to seeing caught. It even inspired one youth to go out and purchase a pod and carp gear the very next day! Where were you on the Saturday?

If you look at the CAG moto part of it reads " To assist others and have fun". That is what CAG is about is it not?

The OCH were asked by Lorne to help out. You are incorrect with your assumption Daniel and Scott pre-fished the venue even though Lorne's pre-baiting was intended for anyone at anytime. He was just happy to see people take advantage of it. The fishing was slow like usual at pier 8 when it's busy down there. Most of the carp caught were caught at range assisted by a little effort from a spod rod. Either way there must not have been any fish in the margines anyway?

If you feel so strong about the way things were done feel free to step up for next year. The trust is always looking for volunteers.

    Sincerly,

    Mark
