I spent the day at popular Hamilton swim last weekend. My float rod was my weapon of choice. I baited up with a few pults of corn and waited to see if the carp gods were on my side.
Well, it didnt take long before my float either slipped down or popped up resulting in a great head of smaller commons to keep me occupied through the day. But the highlight of the session was seeing my final fish turn out to be this beutiful little guy!
I had been waiting for years for my turn to catch one of those orange gems. Needless to say, I was pretty stoked.

The peanut gallery behind that spot would drive me nuts. Do you eat em? Those twentys go like rockets! Nice catch

Looks like a fun time! I was there last week with my fly rod and scared away a pod of 20 carp hahaha. The water was like glass but sadly my fly casting is miserable hahahaha. If you were there with no wind I think you could do well on the fly.
Henry
Yeah, done OK there last year when I first started fishing for them on the fly. Great thing about the pier 8 wall is you do get lot's of carp puttering about increasing the chances of at least one hook up ( usually the one that takes pity on me ).

This morning I fished a short, float session with friends Ben and Colin @ Pier 8. Ben also fished the float and Colin fished euro. Pier 8 is used for docking tankers on the waterfront here in Hamilton. It ranges from 28-30 ft deep. It's a popular venue for carpers, strollers, bird watchers etc. It has been the venue for a number of CAG fish-in's, MACO events and even the venue for the Carp Anglers Group annual C.C.C a few years back. It's not known for big fish but on a good day you can bank a good number of smaller fish if you time it right.
The weather was sunny with a cool, north east wind blowing in our face making quite a chop on the water. It didn't exactly keep our floats stable and it was tough going.
I had heard carp were caught there on the fly recently as they usually start cruising the dock wall this time of year. I also brought my fly gear along just incase I could get into my first carp on the fly for 2013 but I didn't see any cruisers, only the odd one rolling here and there. So, I'll have to give it another shot.
Anyway. It turned out a slow day for us us but I did manage to land one. It was taken on a single piece of Nash Mutant artificial glow corn on a hair making it my first carp from pier 8 for 2013.
We didn't know what to expect really. The water is quite deep there and I usually wait for a longer stretch of hotter weather after spring so it warms up until I give it a shot. Then again, you don't know until you try. We fished for 3 hours. I ended up with the only fish of the session. Still nice to hang out and have a laugh though.
Thank's for the company guy's

Sunday June 09
5am to 11am
Peter and I went to try an earlier slot...
Coyote casing rabbits ran within 10 feet of me on the paved road through the park.
I saw no less than 2 dozen rabbits
beavers spent an hour swimming back and forth through the swim.
as soon as I put the go pro camera in to film them they went away...logic was if you try to photo they will disappear and we can fish...worked.
I caught 3 lost two and Peter lost three and caught two.
Highlights 15lb mirror and a 28lb common caught but losing a mid twenty mirror...unstoppable run to a breakoff.
Peter catching a personal best 33.5lb that took him around obstacles forcing him into the water waist deep and ruining his camera and 2/3 our pictures lost.
sunny days early fishing is way more productive at Tommy Thompson...we viewed 70 carp approx. swim through our swim.
Great looking fish. They're beuts! Thanks for sharing with us.
Very nice, and sharing spots do have benefits. I've got to go to orilia and was looking for a few spots to fish that i don't normally get to go to, I'm trying to turn a drive to orilia and back into a two day fishing session in random cities and regions on my way back. Without looking at forums like this I'd have no chance of finding decent spots in big municipalities, or small ones for that matter. But since few posts of various groups and talking to various ppl, I've found out about a few spots that can fill two days for me. To me I'm still discovering, just with some guidance.
I met you at the CCIW fish-In in May. Congrats on winning the big fish pot. There are lot's of places around Hamilton that are popular swims. Shoot me a message if your interested in joining me and possibly meet some more local carp nuts. We're probably hosting some more fish-In's for this year. You are welcome to come down and run off with more money lol

He's lucky to have me you. Nice report. Is that blue-green algea forming already?

I was recently discussing this with an Officer from the MNR. In a nut shell their view is multiple rods will impact game fish in a negative way. Something they are not willing to risk.

Look's like the harbours really starting to produce. Nice to have all the options now. Nice fish guys.
