I have the Daiwa Crosscast. The QD is good. Not as smooth as the Windcast but you are paying more for them. I think the Crosscasts are good reels for the money. They cast well, retrieve line quickly and are nice to play fish on. I enjoy using them and would recommend them.

Man, it sounds like you rneed to be an aquatic biologist! lol Thanks for that.
Hey Mark, I'm sorry we never took a pic of the hybrid you caught a few weeks back at that spot. Do you remember it? It was one BIG hybrid and that gun metal colouring was unlike anything I've seen before. About as purdy a fish as I've ever seen.
No need to be a biologist or carpologist I think there are a few general looking 'hybrids' but generaly they have different, small traits.
Yeah. I agree on the fish your refering to. I like the large, almost hexagon scales they have. That water has quite a few. Nice when I actually DO catch them

Thanks Mark.
Now, how do you tell the difference between the wild goldfish and hybrids? Is there a slight difference with the mouth?
Oh no! I knew you would ask that lol All I'll say is who really knows the breeding patterns of horny fish in a small water? Their mouths are smaller than common and mirror carp. The hybrids are usually a mixuture of traits Like tiny/ remnant barbles. A dark, dotted latteral line and sometimes have small, orangey dot's under their chin or on their belly..You just need to judge it for yourself as thier is no specific look to them. Some people call them 'crusians' which is another story. I, myself, don't believe they are in our waters. Others do.
Below is a hybrid I caught a few years back at the same swim

Look's like a good session, Mike. I really enjoy fishing there myself. Not many big ones but lot's of wildlife and peace and quiet.
The feral goldish don't have barbels like comon carp.

Great job everybody

Great session guys.I fish a swim almost identical to that in the spring located on the north east end of Erie.

A great result on a tough session. Nice looking fish

Do you have tackle you don't need anymore that sitting around? Maybe you could sell, buy or trade it or give it to me ( just kidding ). There just might be a budding carper out there that could use that fishing tackle that you no longer use or want. You might able to trade it for something you might need?
Anyway. I'm considering hosting a tackle swop this spring and I'm wondering if any of you out there would be interested? That's those with tackle and those looking?
If it looks like it's worth it I'll post a date, time and venue for it.
Thanks, Mark -
Sounds like fun. Hopefully Jeff can make it down with his CAG hardhat and grill again

Lorne(Hammercarp)and I met up last Saturday morning and made the drive down to Fort Erie, Ontario to join other fishing, hunting, and outdoor organizations at the Niagara Outdoor Show.
Muskies Canada, Niagara bassmasters, fishin Niagara and the Ministry Of Natural Resources were just a few of the others in attendance. There were also taxidermists, tackle dealers, fishing charters and a childrens casting area. A good variety of displays and vendors to choose from.
Lorne and I brought along various tackle, baits, rigs, rods, margin poles, floats, CAG information whips, puffs, chod rigs...(the list goes on )to share with the public, talk carp fishing and CAG to those curious about our passion.
It was great to see some genuine interest about carp angling from our visitors. A pleasure to help people out with a few tips to help them get started. We enjoyed working with all the other vendors at the show. Thanks to Organizer Bill Whitehead for having us again and for giving us the oppurtunity to help put carp angling in North America on the map.
Thanks for visiting Nathan
Nice working with you again, Lorne.
Until the next one

Good to see you back on here. Hope you stick em!

A comfortable recling carp chair like a Daiwa Infinty. A comfy bedchair too. It's well worth the money and effort carrying them there.

WTG Brendan. Nice fish

Sounds like your off to a good start. There's plenty of tips and info here. Most people are friendly and will help out. Good luck with your fishing
