  1. By "Glug" I meant a liquid you can dip your baits into. There are "glugs" ( dips) you can buy such as the Mainline PVA friendly particle syrup you can use. They will not melt your PVA. There are others out there.

Water based dips and glugs will melt your PVA.

You can purchase it @ CarpKit

  2. I usually use PVA sticks for half my winter carp fishing at some of my swims. The other half is float fishing. I manage to get a fish or two on my mat doing so.

A stick mix I have had results on are boilie crumb. I do well with sweet, fruity flavours like tutti frutti and pineapple.

Since the catfish and other nuisance fish are inactive I like to use a commercial method mix ( fishy). I like to use it in a powder texture ( for scent )

I like to add rolled oats with a few chopped boilie ( again, with fruity flavours )

I also like to dip my sticks in a PVA friendly glug. This really aids in a scent and flavour attractant.

I like to count more on the scent of the stick more than the actual amount of freebies I add in the stick. It's better to just draw them in but not over feed them and just try to pick off a bite.

Use a good quality PVA mesh like the E.S.P mesh as it's strong and breaks down well in cold water. The cheaper stuff will just 'glob up'. Put your sticks together on the bank. If you do it the night before the fish oils from the method may infuse the mesh resulting in it not dissolving in the water.

  3. Well, I'm happy to say it's just about the end of winter up here in the great white north. It will be nice to finally fish in some warm weather for a change. The winter sucks but it doesn't prevent me from getting out there in pursuit of cold gold. Sure there are days when it's just too rough but if you pick a day that has little or no wind and dress appropriate you can get a few hours in on the bank. I have learnt to make it worthwhile fishing in the winter the main factors are to be aware of fish location, fish lightly as possible and put your patience to the test. Not minding roughing it can go a long way. The fish in my video were caught using mainly 'euro' style & float fishing and caught in various locations in open waters.

    Hi Guy's

Well, spring is almost here. I'm sure there are many of you looking forward to what the 2014 season has to offer. I know I am.

There will be a number of CAG fish-In's this year (spring, summer and fall). The fish-In's will be socially based 'meet and greets', not competitive matches or tournys. Any CAG member or guests are more than welcome to attend. The spring fish-In will be an opportunity to dust off your gear and catch up with other carpers after this long winter. I will announce the dates.

. I also intend on hosting a tackle buy/ sell/ trade if there is enough interest. It will probably happen at one off the fish-In's. Bring down your gear you no longer need or use. Someone out there might appreciate it or you might even help a newbie start out with carp fishing

So, hopefully, together we can make 2014 a fun and friendly season for the club.

If any of you have any respectful, constructive questions feel free to fire away.

    .

    Thanks

    Mark

  6. Wow! I can't even imagine. Well done!

Horace. Honestly, I don't know how you guys in the south can handle your summers with the heat and humidity. I find that tougher at times.

There are some days that are just too harsh to fish but most winter days are fishable as long as you dress appropriately and pick a day with little or no wind.

  7. This is a small post of a recent float fishing session from my facebook page. It was my best session this winter. Thought I would share

It's been quite mild out today and I am fortunate to be able to fish. It's been slow for the most part so far but I have banked a prime common just under 10 pounds . I tricked him by casting my rig over some feeding bubble's I noticed in the margin. I got my sling shot out and fired a few kernals of sweet corn around the float. I had one single kernel on a size 8 wide gape. Two minutes later-Thunk! My float slips under. I end up landing my first fish of the day!

It was dead for the next few hours but eventually my float did sway to the side resulting in a small, scrappy hybrid.

Six o'clock rolled by. Most of my gear was packed and ready to go by then. I thought I would leave my rod in for another 5 minutes before I reeled in as the sun was starting to go down and it was getting chilly. While staring at my float it started to jostle around strangely so I struck into it. The next thing I knew was I had what felt like a bigger fish slowly peeling line off. The fish takes me around the swim for a few minutes. I get her in close then push the net under and pull out another prime common. I didn't weigh her. I'm thinking 15 pounds give or take a pound? I thought what a great way to end a winter session! The carp gods were looking out for me today. I look intense in the photo but that's what you get for doing timed selfies on a tri pod lol
