  1. There's two options...

be a dick and embarrass and insult a man who obviously sees the sporting value of carp, and further marginalize our sport with the elitist attitudes displayed in posts above me.

OR, like buzzbomb suggest, be supportive, and educate the author in safe handling techniques, who knows, it might result in positive promotion of CAG and a follow up article that further portrays CAG and carp fishing in a positive light.

But responding by say - "Give me 5 minutes to brutalize this man" and "drivel like this shouldn't be allowed" - thats a great way to ruin a good opportunity.

  2. Congrats on getting your 30, Zach!

I do the same hting Louis does, but I do ten shots after a 30 second delay...that gives me plenty of time to hold the fish really close to the camera to make it look big  I have a canon a560 powershot, and if I do the 10 photo setting with the flash on, it takes a hell of a long time.

  3. This one has potential to be one of the most nice looking koi around, being that is really full scaler with a creamcicle head. But unfortunatley this thing was rotten and badly wounded from...the spawn?

  4. What is the closest place to PA you can legally fish for them?

The west coast, I believe. the east coast stock of sturgeon is fairly wiped out. On the Lower Delaware River, a small town in NJ used to be the sturgeon and caviar capital of the world. Overfishing and pollution destroyed the stocks. Sturgeon take almost 20 years to reach sexual maturity for breeding. There are still sturgeon on the east coast rivers, but most have very few. They pop up everyone once in a while on the Delaware, Hudson etc...The Kennebec river has a decent population, probably but I believe it is still illegal to target them.

What's interesting is that in order to restock the sturgeon in a river, the eggs must be from fish from the same river. If you tried to stock Hudson sturgeon in the Delaware, they would swim back to the Hudson. Quite interesting.

I am talking about the Atlantic sturgeon above, the west coast varietal is the White sturgeon. There is lake sturgeon in the midwest, I believe, but they dont get anywhere near as big as their coastal cousins.

  5. Very cool! A big sturgeon is on my to do list again this year, hopefully when I return to Oregon or California I can tackle that. Look at what swims at anglers feet below bonneville dam on the columbia. Not the greatest picture, but very cool to see huge sturgeon come in close to munch on shad.

I will hopefully do some sturgeon fishing on my own, and also get a guide again on my trip.

  6. Also, while I am not normally a rat, you could call a game warden or wildlife officer (whatever they are called down your way) and report the snaggers. Snagging is illegal in PA and many other states too. Snagging is really unsporting - and most of the time the people trying to snag are unequipped to land the fish. Now lifting salmon...that's another story
