  1. mn- it took me 15 years of paylaking to catch my first mirror. after only one year of fishing in the wild ive caught 6....pretty fish...really slimy though. youll get one before you know it.

nice fish bill. im gonna try to order some of your boilies this winter for early spring baits. any suggestions on flavor and/or size? what way do you fish your boilies? pva, over particles, boilie stringer?

  2. well..i guess it all started for me about 15 years ago when while i was working by a lake i seen some giant carp swimming along the bank(probally about 6lbs but back then they looked like 20s).

i was telling my brother about it and he said i should go to the paylake with him. well....the first carp i ever carght was that weekend and it was about a 15lber! i was hooked. i was at the paylake every weekemd from then on. it started with sweetcorn...then doughballs...and then in 98 i discovered packbait and it was on! from 98 untill 01 i was top man on my paylake...catching sometimes up to 80 fish in 12 hours. but like so many other baits the packbait spread around and then everybody was using it...you see i was the

2nd guy on the lake to start using pack so i had the edge...last year i decided that i was done paylaking and started hitting wild waters...ive had huge success with pack in the wild but still, in 2 years , cant seem to break the 20lb barrier. ive tried boilies, pescavia, field corn and dozens of doughs and packs untill finally retiring back to the paylake where fish over 20lbs can be caught every weekend...i joined cag just a couple months ago(still havnt recieved my packet yet!) and im hoping to learn some things so i can break my pb...29lbs. ive seen giant carp where i fish in the wild here in indy but just cant seem to catch the bigones(over 20lbs), so now i hit the paylake every other week and then the resovoir every other week. its to expensive to take my boys to the paylake with me so they hit the lake with me every other week. when i bust a 30 im gonna post like a madman ill be so pumped!

  3. hey man...just be glad your catchin carp...that means your baits not repulsive, your in a spot that holds carp and your learning and having fun...

i paylaked for 15 years. my average fish-7 to 9lbs with about 4or5 20s a year. that was then, this is now. for the last year ive been fishing wild waters and so far my best is 18lbs. with the average being about 7 lbs. right now im thrilled with anything over 10. as far as my p.b....29.3.

    good fishing bro!!

  4. hey mn,

if you wanna try something you can get at the grocery heres my rice.

    28 oz kraft minute rice

    32oz hunts ketchup

    8oz pinnapple juice

    4oz karo clear syrup

heat the ketchup, juice and syrup in a pan till it starts to steam..then put the dry rice in a 5 gal bucket..pour the steaming mess over the rice..stir it up till your hands hurt. take the bucket and put a airtight lid on it...slam the bucket on the floor to pack it real well..after 1 hour open the lid and break up the chunks. put the lid back on and wait for 30 mins. it is important to keep a lid on the bucket. rice dries out quickly if your not carfull. i use a cornpop for my pickup.

by the way..the rice is only good for 12 hours so....

  5. hondo,

if your on a budget try the silstar baitfeeders. there just as good as the shimanos in my opinion and only half the price. ive had a pair for 6yrs. that i use every time i go fishing.

they also have a adjustment knob for the secondary drag. but with the silstars you have to pull the switch back instead of turn the handle..but when i had the baitrunners i always switched em off by the switch also.

  6. i usally do a pack count. i count the compressions and put a ball in a pan of water and watch it break. of course the more you pack it the longer it takes to break. if your fishing the margins 30 seconds is fine. if your winging it with a 12ft. rod, casting 100 yds. make sure you pack it hard. about 3or4 min. break down time is ideal for distance fishing.

i know the 14cp mix seems like too much but with the freqent rebaiting youll need it. nothing ticks me off more than fishing pack for 4hrs. on wild water and when the fish start getting it your almost out of bait, and at 13 dollars for 50lbs. itll be allright.

  7. hello,

i thought i would share the how-tos on packbait.

packbait is a simple but effective way to catch numbers of carp on wild waters without prebaiting or chumming.

the concept is simple. you make a type of dough that is meant to break down when it has sit in the water for a couple minutes. by putting a piece of cereal on your hook(corn pop, sugar smack, corn puff) or even a few pieces of artificial or real corn or even a bead(my favorite) the fish root around in your broke down bait(packbait),start sucking up the particles and then they see your hookbait..it looks like a bigger particle of packbait to them so they suck it in. even if they blow it out quickly they will usally prick themselves resusting in a screaming run.

    1. for tackle i use a #4 eagle claw lazor sharp hook, no leader..only 12lb. line. i use a bb shot about 4 in. above the hook and another 10 in. above the hook with a 1 oz. slip egg sinker between them.

    2.heres a packbait recipe.

14 cps soybean meal(avalible at feed stores)

    3 cps fruity pebbles cereal

    3 cps flour

    1 jar cherry preserves

    1 5oz cherry jello

1 .125 oz. btl. lorann cherry flavoring

    2cans cream corn

    1 can kernal corn

mix the dry ingrediants first then add all the liquids. it will be sticky..thats ok. you must wet your hands(not driping..just damp) before you pack a ball of the bait around your pickup(corn pop, corn, sugar smack, bead). get your hands wet..make a ball about the size of an egg, split it down the middle, put your hook with the pickup on it in the middle of the packbait ball. squeze it around the hook making sure its packed well and your line is coming out the top, not the side. cast it out. tighten your line slowly. you can not drag the bait across the bottom, it will fall off your hook. you want the bait to break down and leave your pickup in the middle of the pile.

3.rebait every 15 minutes for 2 hours. then every 30 minutes...then every hour. this way there will be dozens of little piles of pack on the lake bottom in just a few casts. the carp will start feeding on all the chum and eventually get to the one with your hook in it.

    4. if you dont own baitrunning reels you must loosen your drag all the way because the carp will rip your pole in the water.

5.do not...and i meen do not swing on bumps..you will get alot of bumps with pack because the carp are sucking on the particles making your pickup come up and down..not neccesarily in there mouth yet. just wait till they hook thereselves and run with it.

    anymore questions let me know.

    carpinator.

p.s. i caught 70 fish sunday on the cherry bean meal and beads for pickups..little heart shaped yellow ones from the craft department at walmart
