  1. Great fish and pics, what is the work going on in the background? Did you or anyone you know fish the bridge at night?

They were boring under the river. They use a machine to push rods under the river and then pull back pipe underneath. I think the pipe is to be a forced sewer main. Those guys were doing the same thing I do everyday. Turns out they are in the same union as me. My wife and I are in the process of thinking about moving to Austin. Plenty of work and I would be able to find a job quickly through the local union hall.

I am not sure who else fished there that night Dean. I know that day we were there, so was Marius, Brian C., Phil GB, and Tal.

  2. macfish here. Wonderful catches! Congratulations! It sounds to me like you did pretty darn well for yourself even if you didn't take first place by weight or have the biggest fish. Thanks for the pics and the stories and info. By the way, if you don't mind saying could you talk a little bit about your kit: reels, rods, bobbins, alarms, etc.? Thanks and congrats again. Jonathan

    Mac,

I use Fox Warrior rods. 2 3/4tc. Silstar rxb50 baitfeeder reels. Fox micron alarms. And the hangers you see are solars I believe, but they belong to Gil.

  3. And for you rig and bait noddys.....all fish come on fixed 3.5oz safety bolt rigs, Kryston hooklinks, ACS K9 no.6 hooks. Half my fish were caught on popped up sweetcorn dipped in a special flavor and the other half on Lonstar baits pinnapple boilies popped up with solar Hi-Vis pinnapple pop-ups. Corn rigs were fished with Big Carp Tackle pellets in pva mesh and boilie rigs were fished with pva bags filled with the pellets and chopped and whole boilies. Interesting enough...all fish over 25lbs fell to the boilies.

  4. Truthfully....after the first day at the 360, with the 31 and the mirror....I could of blanked the rest of the trip and had a good time. Nice meeting many of you.....Zack, Tommy, Mark, Scott, Karl, Keith, Wayne, Brian, Colin and many others. Hope to make it back next year. Now its back to Indiana where a 15 is a awesome catch and 9 or 10 20lbers a year is good angling. One more shot.......

  5. Spawn - no spawn can affect the catch rate no doubt about it.  The good news is that fish over 20 - 25 lbs (some number(?); different at different water) rarely participate in the spawn.  Another way to say this is that fish over 15 yrs old are over the hill, both females and males.  They mess a little with a false spawn but by and large the biggest fish will not be bothered by water temp and certainly don't go into a feeding slump.  In fact, probably the warmer the better for those trying to catch large fish, really large.

If the spawn is full blown those really big fish will be hard to find.  Could be in the margins trying to figure what the comotion is all about - or - could be grazing in the high protein hot spots where thermals are causing water current.

This should be a really fun year, watercraft will be a premium - bait secondary!!

    Exactly what I was thinking....kinda.
