  1. We are about to start the PR campaign on this event and just wanted to bring everyone up to date.

    Just to let everyone know;

Hartford Ct has free internet service throughout the city (hartford wireless)..

It is available @ Charter Oak Landing and I'm sure all along the river..

I was playing with a laptop last week and was amazed to see the info come on the screen.

  2. We are having a Connecticut fish-in on the Connecticut river at the "Charter Oak Landing"in Hartford at on September 13th, details and directions to follow in the next couple of days.

Here's a couple of pics of a swim upstream and downstream @ Charter Oak landing 5-31-08.

  3. and Hillary will proclaim it CARP ANGLERS DAY B)

    Geez:

If Hillary has anything to do with it I think I'd PUKE, as in vomit.. Let's leave her/it out of this.

DC would be a great venue.

  4. The previous forum you could delete a attachment very easily.

    Now I find it impossible.

It also seems (in the best interest of economy) the author should be able to delete a For-Sale topic.

    That doesn't seem possible either.

  5. I met a guy that helped bury the THOUSANDS of carp that died in the late 80's. They used bucket loaders and dump trucks. He said the spillway was five feet deep in carcasses. I don't know if it was an intentional control situation or a natural phenomena...

I do know that several of my friends catch tons of white perch and the occasional trophy walleye. Good eatin' there!!!

    CarpDaddy

When that same group is there ice-fishing the flag is always flying

The story I was told the die-off was a by-product of a weed control program. The carp were in the right place at the wrong time. When it happened many locals thought it was a good thing.

  6. That'd be great Fran...maybe then I could get out of debt with ya...seems I remember owing a beer or two to ya for some spring feeders a few years back.

And they said us old-timers CRS. I remember you said you had access to some micro-brew stuff that was the best beer made. I'll be waiting.

  7. Memorial Day 2007, that'll hold us 4....sooooo...let's hear it from the CAG over 50 members...interested????  Could be fun...

I'm not quite as old as Charlie (I'll be 65 soon) but count me in. I talk to Charlie quite often. He doesn't spend much time on the forum so I'll mention it to him next time we talk.

    Fran

  8. So if you notice that you used to have an identification of "CAG MEMBER" by your name, and it now reads "FORUM GUEST" it's all my fault....well not really, I guess it's your fault for not renewing

    That's me.

It would seem there would be a notice that your membership is expired or about to

expire. I just assumed I was shut off because of a controversial subject / post.

  9. Anybody getting to Austin airport on Wednesday in the early PM?

    Or maybe someone is nearby...

It turns out that I need a ride to the hotel -- will pay in $ or boilies  :D

    -Marius

    What kind of boilies???

I'm arriving 3:30pm, pu a car and collecting my partner (Mike D) about 5pm.

If your still there give me a shout on my cell.

  10. Glad to see that the pics of Fran that I distributed to all those companies are working... :D

No, more seriously, there is the airline policy as defined in theory, and then there is what they actually do at the airport.

2 years ago @ austin when I took my stuff out of the car at curbside the AA baggage clerk informed me the tube would have extra charges. My wife who was staying on took the tube back and mailed it home the next day.

I did dig deeper into the AA web-page and printed a copy of their fine print which does say 115 inches and 50lbs for fishing rods etc. It will be with me in my carry-on when I return.

Years ago on my return from the CCC my rod bag didn't show at Hartford. An hour later I finally convinced the man to look around and it was on the floor behind the wall. It couldn't make the u-turn on the carousell and fell off.

  11. where can I get them in austin, also mainline pineapple boilies in stock now.

Range-Cubes and all of the corn products are available at Callahans feed store

back towards the airport. Bout 10 or 15 minutes away. In Texas range-cubes are usually called CAKE (by the locals). If you ask for range-cubes they know you ain't from round-here and add a few bucks to the price.

  12. YEP that is the correct address -- I called them to confirm.

As for UPS -- RIPOFF. SCAM ARTISTS -- you are better off buying new gear out there and then sell it or donate it....

    Marius:

I tried to warn you procrastinators weeks ago about shipping charges.

Some of you guys think you can get your rods on the plane for free. Read the baggage info on the airlines web-site. MAXIMUM 64" L+W+H There'll be a $50 surcharge for anything larger than 64"..

UPS charges from any account that they bill and pick-up. (for those of you that work at a company that is serviced by UPS).. parcel 76"long x 6" x 8" x 15pounds

value $500 (must be wrapped in cardboard). Delivery time 4 days. Billed cost $19.00

UPS charges for the same services at UPS by a walk in customer. $39.74

USPS (US postal service) Priority mail (2days) $27.30 + ($6.50 optional insurance)

    USPS (parcel-post) (5 days) $21.33 + optional insurance.

These guys will pick-up your parcel where-ever (for free). This is another option for those leaving on Sunday. You can pre-print a shipper and USPS will pick-up your parcel at the motel on Monday.

    Cheers:

    Fran

  13. Guys, I just shipped some rods to MO via UPS ground and it cost me $36!  Then, figure you have to send them back Austin to Boston....that's waaaaayyy to expensivo for me!

    Marius

    Marius:

There is a huge difference in UPS prices from a company that has pickup and an account vs. bringing it to a UPS store.

What costs $8 with the former can cost $16 from the store.

If your parcel is not in a cardboard box there could be a $5 surcharge.

If it's a round tube it could have a $5 surcharge. Length also has a surcharge.

I sent a square box (loaded with rods and tackle) to TX one time and it cost $14.

I sent a smaller tube to Simon Cardy and he sent his rods to TX (from NY) and he paid his local UPS $72.

Make your package as small as possible and check USPS. I just did a check with priority mail 8"x8"x 76" x 12 pounds Massachusetts to Austin $23.70. + insurance.

  14. pat  i checked  ACE the other day  they are now located in the airport(for your convenience )  :D  so the silly taxes apply  to published rates

    be prepared for

    10% tax

    3.5% credit card fee

    5% city fee

1.95 a day cfc fee (not sure)

and $3.85 a day property tax.

and that i think  stands for all the rental places too

When you get the rental bill you'll see 10% city tax and 15% airport tax.

If any rental company goes on airport property they must charge you those taxes.

The other fees seem new to me.

    Fran
