  1. Scott and others,

Believe it or not, here in Minnesota, we've been pondering the exact thing you’ve all now accomplished.  I wonder if Tip-ups would even be the way to go?  Tell me what was the rig like that you actually caught the fish on.  If a tip-up rig was to be successful I believe it would have to be similar to that.

    Jim:

I was unlucky Sarurday but when I woke up Sunday I was inspired to go back, as I did chum most of the holes when I left.

Sunday was a dream. I didn't see a car for 50miles on the t'pike then mild traffic for the next 50.

I opened up the holes we cut yesterday (there was a 1" of overnight ice). Set up a (type, jack, trap, tip-up) in the first hole I cut Saturday, (Vinney's hot spot).. Vinney is not fond of walking on hard water so it took much serious talking to get him down on the ice.

A bit later as I'm augering new holes the flag is up on my first type. A blazer, like I'm into a salmon on Goose Pond. I think this some sort of a record???? Scott- are you there?????

  2. OK fellas, I have done did it now. I am going to the ATC, so everyones odds will now commence to go down....a lot

    Scott:

When odds go down (numerically) that means (4-1 vs 2-1)) they improve as the favorites. Meaning they

have a better chance of winning.

When YOU enter the event everyones odds should go up.. - Some unknown from Chicopee who was

19-1, then a heavy hitter (multi-40+lb captor) enters, the other entries odds should go up. ie: Stanley @ 19-1

should now be 29-1. He has a much-lesser chance of taking home the bacon...

  3. Hi All

Just a quick update to let you all know that the rods, pods, reels and new bite alarms are available from Royal Carp. More will be added in the future but it looks like right now one could get a pair of rods, reels, pod and bite alarms for under $300 - check it out at The Royal Carp Web Page

    Keith:

The Royal site looks to be offering a bunch of really low priced goods.

Each of the items (rod, reel, alarm, pod are $40-$50 range)...

Not yet any quality items that the connoisseurs of fine carp tackle would

    be interested in.

  4. Thanks for the reply guys.

I asked because I am not a member of either group yet and really had no idea what the ACS was all about. I now see that the CAG is, for me, a much more desireable group to join. I really have little interest in high stakes competition and tackle discount. (OK, tackle discount is nice, but $45 dollars a year seems a little steep...) So I don't think that the ACS is for me.

    Regards,

    Chris.

    Chris:

I think your thinking is in the right direction.

I joined (paid the $45 membership) thinking the ACS would be the next step up in USA carp fishing.

So far I've received a member packet with a bunch of samples that look to be quality goods but are just samples, the black tee-shirt, well it's beyond words.

Their web-site has fallen back, now looks to be July or later. Someone should tell them the season is now near half over. They're off in the hallowed-land fishing while the ACS is loosing face.

It could also be I was looking for something beyond CAG (like the British Carp Society) but in reality the USA is not ready for that.

I should have known the group is very competition oriented and the ACS would be headed in that direction.

We'll see how they do in the near future.

  5. that is the most beautiful thing i have ever seen!!!!!!!!!!!

    Geeze guys:

I don't want to pop any bubbles but these reel seats (I'm assuming they're make of a 300 series

stainless steel) look really good but the material has the same metallurgic quallity as brass. All of the corosion resistant stainless-steels are no better than brass but are silver in color.

For $81 I think you are the victims of indulgance.

For $81 they should be made of a titanium alloy which is about 1/2 the weight of stainless steel and about

4X the tensile strength. Extreme temperature and corrosian resist. A true space age alloy.

    Stainless steel is dog $hit.

  6. IM surprised Fran remembered that long ago, he's elderly.  He hasnt forgotten how to bust balls though..

      Sean, shifty? meouww...?

    Scotty me boy:

Just did a buy at Specialist Tackle for 2 of the alarms and it works out to $87 each delivered. Royal @ $150 each is a bit out of touch. You should tell your Captain.

You failed to read Kev's fine print. The event doesn't start until May 1st. looks like Kev has fallen off the face of the earth. We're still walking on the water here in W-Mass.

In reference to Next week-ends event the "GCO" .....

To inform you in case you have a few extra coins, cash only, as It takes a person of Polish origin to learn that all those buyers are bla-bla-bla.

I'll be bringing a few items for sale. 12ft 3pc carp rods, $50/one, $90/two, $100 all 3... The last one needs

work on 1 guide. Bought to outfit a son-in-law but it was not to be.

Hats, $1 to ($5 french team item)($8 CAG official item).... Catapults $1 to $5.. Spare elastic available... Boilie rolling table, February Carpworld $5, :D:D:D etc.

    See you there:

    Karl :D

    Wow,

I just saw the price. Is this for a pair? I paid just over $100.00 US for a pair a few years back. On the Gardner website they list retail for @57 pound a piece. Seems the Royal price is quite elevated?

    -Mike/CT

The pair I had years ago were very quiet. Too quiet for me.

Reminds me now that I sold them to Quid and he hasn't yet paid for them.

  8. Tony -

My bank will charge me $35 US dollars to perform the international wire transfer.  Any savings associated with shipping rate reductions are wiped out by such a high fee.

    Brian-Tony

I talked to my bank today also. I was advised the $35 fee for transfer is universal, that's the fee the bank

    is charged.

Again, as Brian stated, the post savings are far outweighed by the fees charged.

Tony; Someone needs to enter the real world and set up a VISA/Mastercharge account.

Paypal is the last choice as you stated there's another fee for using it.

ASHAMED TO SAY I'M FROM MASSACHUSETTS

  9. Tony -

I'd really like to get your book but at 50 euros including shipping = $90 to $100 US at current exchange rates plus $35 US for wire transfers, I think the $125 price tag is a little beyond my reach.  Please advise.

    Brian:

50 Euros, @ noon today, is $64.07 That's bad enough but $35 for a transfer is over the edge.

    Damn Cheap Yankee

  10. Hey Brian do you have an address to send the entry money to? No sign of a NACA yet to get the address. I am sure there is other Carpers wondering the same. Fish-On Bill

    BRIAN:

I'm also looking to send in my and my partners entry fee. You mention wait for the NACA

magazine for the entry blank. Receiving the NACA is always a crap shoot here in the

north-east especially this time of year when we're subject to extreme weather along with

Christmas. December 31st is not that far away for the entry. We (and it seems others )

would like to send in our entry.
