It was a great weekend and will be talked about around the campfire for years to come. The crew settled into game plans each day and set them into motion without a hitch. The best plan was to set out marker bouys in the backyard at the house. We made them out of water bottles, mono and pyrimad sinkers and they worked like a charm. The campground plan was one that started 3 monthes ago. I had picked the campground out based on access to deep water as well as a backwater bay, a great area for this time of year up there. I had never heard of anybody carp fishing there, and neither had the camp office. Monday morning ahab and I took a trip over to see what the camp was like. EVERY site was full with memorial day campers packing up. Almost all the sites were mudpits, so we drove around looking for the best one. We found it and headed back to the camp office to switch tent sites. After check out (1pm) there would only be 5 sites occupied so we had almost the whole campground to ourselves. Fast forward to the leeches, my parents planned to stop by on tuesday night for a bbq and I asked my dad to bring whatever junk fishing rods were around at the house. We traded 2 dozen leeches with some other campers for some jigheads, and from thin air we had walleye setups. The walleye weren't cooperating, but it was cool to come up with all the gear we needed like that.
As with anything, all good things come to an end.
On my way home, getting off the mass turnpike my truck broke down on the entrance ramp to 91 south (within spitting distance of the tornadoes) We sat for 2 hours waiting for a tow as the HELLISH storms blew over. When the tow truck arrived the guy said he wasn't towing out of state because of the twisters and could drop us off at pepboys or sears. We chose pepboys (big mistake) We had determined that the alternator had gone bad. We purchased a BRAND NEW alternator (do you see where this is going?) and installed it in the parking lot IN BETWEEN TORNADOES! It took us less than 20 minutes to take the old one out and put the new one in. Back on the road happy to be getting home by 7pm.........we made it a mile down the road into a VERY BAD section of west springfield and the truck died again. 2 hours later my brother arrived and we went to purchase a new battery at walmart. Put the battery in, and I made it from springfield to manchester ct to drop off ahab. Once the battery ran dead the truck died again 5 miles from my house. Its now midnight and I had to call a freind to come pick me up. Thursday I was supposed to work, but had to call out so that I could get my truck towed home. The tow truck driver was really cool and we tested a couple things at my house and determined the BRAND NEW ALTERNATOR FROM #### ASS PEP BOYS WAS BAD OUT OF THE BOX! I returned it and made them test the new one, went home, installed it by myself, put the old battery back in...................and everything was fine.
An incredible weekend and even with a horrible ending it still didn't matter. I got calls from multiple carpers while broken down asking if they could help in any way. Its what CAG is ALL ABOUT! I have a bunch of video including some crazy storm footage that I should have edited and uploaded this week.
Thanks for coming up guys, your welcome any time!

This Sunday may 22nd ct will be holding its housatonic river fish in at Indian wells state park. The park opens at 8am and closes at dusk. If attending please try to arrive early so we can reserve the bank space we need. This is part fish in, part picnic, so bring something for the grill or a sidedish. There is an entry fee for day use of the park, 9 dollars for residents, 15 for non residents. The fee is per car, so carpool if you can. The fish in information has been posted on ctfisherman.com so we will most likely have some new carpers attending to see what it is we do. Will post specifics and links later this evening.
