  1. Ive never float fished before but plan to do so while on vacation. Can someone give me a brief explanation of how to go about such a task for carp? Ive float fished for other species with slip bobbers etc etc but have no idea what to do for carp.

    Thanks

  3. So tuesday morning came along, and I KNEW the bite was only getting better. I arrived at about 7am to a dead quiet lake. After fishing with an audience, and a lake full of jetskiers, tubers, and waterskiers for the past two days, I was ready for a couple quiet hours of fishing. I got setup and less than 5 minutes after doing so had my first fish on the bank. 21lbs even again. I lost track of how many fish I caught today, and had to make a phone call to Andy to get someone else in on the action. I think I went 12 for 15 today with numerous mid/high teen fish and 2 great mirrors. Andy caught fish of the day with a 25lb fish just before all the swimmers arrived for the day. I had 2 double ups, and runs were happening AS SOON as the bait hit the water and settled in. All the early bird swimmers who hadn't seen the fish yesterday or last weekend couldn't believe how big the fish were, and many times we heard I've lived here for over 20 years and NEVER seen a fish that big caught from here......

A GREAT weekend, and new carp fishing grandfather and grandson team, a couple pbs and a GIANT snag removed from my new FAVORITE local lake. All weekend we used sweet corn with a piece of flavored maize, and some oat pack bait. I can't not go back down tonight after all that I've seen come out from this new swim, and hope that a 30 will finally grace me with its presence.

  4. Well I started fishing in my old neighborhood last weekend for carp. There are private associations all around the lake, some nicer than others and some very private. My old neighborhood is no exception. Before I bought my house down the road I made sure when I lived there I always went above and beyond as a renter, helping with the raft, docks, cleaning up after other peoples parties etc, etc. To make a long story short, its as If I still live in the neighborhood and everyone knows me. Here's a couple posts from last weekend, during one of the sessions my old neighbor Al came down and sat with us for about 5 hours amazed at the fish we were pulling in, and I promised to help his 12 year old grandson catch his first carp in the near future.

So with the promise made, I returned Sunday evening with loads of maize and oat pack at the ready. I saw Al, and mentioned that I would be fishing later on at about 8pm, he mentioned that If I wanted to make it earlier not to worry about dinner. Apparently he had emailed his grandson some of the pictures from last weekend and he was dying to go fishing. I baited up the spot, and returned at 6pm to a patiently waiting fisherman and his grandfather. I quickly got them rigged up, and casted out with a quick explanation of the rigs and baits. Al went to cook up some dinner and Ben and I waited for the fun to begin. He caught the only fish of the afternoon at about 15lbs, and I was just as happy as he was. You could see the look in his eyes that only a beginner carp fisherman has. After the fish was returned to the water, 2 glorious plates of barbecued chicken corn on the cob and fixins found there way to our little spot, and I thought to myself, hmmmmmm that's a pretty darn good trade. Somehow he convinced his grandfather to let him stay the night so that we could fish again in the morning.

I returned the next morning (Monday) and Ben and his grandfather were already setup and had broken off a good fish around a dock pole (the only snags in the area) We had high hopes with fish breaching all over, 30 ft of water, some in close. My buddy dave pulled in a couple mid teen fish early on in the morning and missed a handful of fish. When I arrived at noon, I happened to land a bait right on a 21lbrs head. We also pulled in a lake monster that had been snagging us quite a bit, and were surprised when it kept coming and coming and coming, this thing was over 50 ft long and also a new pb.

Ben had to leave, and wasn't very happy about it, he left with full intentions of doing ALOT of research and returning next weekend for some more fish. It was too bad he left, because after about 2 hours one of ALs old surfcasting rods started screaming out line, he was on the dock messing with his boat and told dave to get the fish. Dave was pretty happy he did, his new PB for the lake at 24lbs and a BEAUTIFUL fish. The look on his face when he picked up the 20 year old rod and reel was priceless, as if he didn't remember our old school carping days with no baitrunner. In between sever thunderstorms I had a screaming take that headed towards the neighbors dock poles again, but this time I went for a swim hoping to save it. It wasn't meant to be, and he spit the hook

Part 2 AM Tuesday morning coming up

  5. nope me neither lol My lucky hat was found 25ft up in a tree while ice fishing, I could see the blaze orange from the ice. I tossed a stick up at it, first try got my lucky hat

  6. So last week started my fiances "birthday week" and the request came through to go walleye fishing saturday night. When we started dating we spent alot of time chasing walleye on the boat and she had gotten hooked on jigging for them. I agreed and really only had to get some shiners (havn't set out any traps yet this year) Well for some reason I couldn't find shiners ANYWHERE. Before I could even break the news to her, she suggested we go down to my buddies house for carp. I've been doing okay there over the past week or so, with only "bigger" fish and no peanuts. Its the only spot on the lake thats really fishable and its about a 2 minute drive.

So we head down and get setup, sweetcorn on a greedy pig rig on two rods and sweet tigers on another. We're fishing an area that drops right down to about 15ft and we fish it right at the edge of the dropoff. Get everything situated, and 5 minutes in theres a dropback and then screaming run on Heathers pole. Shes too busy talking with one of the neighbors so I take the fish, and bank a nice 18/20lbr (sweetcorn). Okay cool so it might be a good night. Well about an hour later the same rod goes off, and I grab it, feels like a nice fish, I hand it off to Heather and help her out to the dock so she can keep it from getting wrapped around the boat and everything else. She fights it for a good 15 minutes, over the boat, on the boat, over to the neighbors dock, I was getting a little nervous until she slipped right into the net.

Keep in mind this is only her second carp ever, and the first was 11lbs lol So we made sure to get some good pictures. A new PB for her of 23lbs 8oz

I ended up picking up another high teen fish just before packing up which was nice, but no pictures, Heather was the star of the night. I asked her how many walleye did she think we would need to catch to match the 60lbs of carp we had just hauled. Needless to say, she was happy that we went carp fishing

  7. Im heading north next weekend to help put the docks in at my families lakehouse on Chaumont bay (lake ontario) Chaumont is about 10 minutes outside of watertown and about a half hour from the canadian border, oh and about 20 mins from the st larry. Leaving Ct saturday night at about 8pm and plan on fishing straight through until sunday evening. If anyone in the Ct area is interested in taking a trip I can actually stay through until monday or tuesday. Won't cost much besides gas and a trip to the grocery store. The best part is the fishing in the backyard! Lots of BIG fish have been seen every day I've been up there, and there are a MILLION good spots minutes away.

If anyone is interested or would like more information pm me.

    Ethan
