I've never heard a largemouth referred to as a "Larry" before...May I ask what you call a smallmouth? They're far too mean to be called "Sally"

if they are going to a nearby paylake, you can show-up on a friday night and pocket some cabbage...you'll have a leg-up knowing what a 28 & 36 are preconditioned to eating

nice job!
if you find yourself missing alot of fish and/or deep hooking them, then getting the hang of the hair will be an improvement.
Using sweet corn (canned corn) on a hair has it's own set of complications. That's how i started and i always had problems with it getting "sucked off"...whereas boiled field corn (maize) might stay on through a few fish. If you watch the videos of carp feeding, you'll see that they'll suck in the bait repeatedly before being hooked. One way to keep the sweet corn on the hair is to compliment it with either artificial corn or just some foam at the end of the hair. i'm sure there are other ways to skin that cat...that's what worked for me. Now i use maize.

vacuum cleaner with fins and a heartbeat!
ya gotta love the Hudson!!

I believe what you have there is a nice channel cat. both blues and channels have forked tails (as this one does). Although the anal fin partially covered by your left-hand, i see enough of it to believe that it is indeed rounded. Bluecats have a straight anal fin.
Here's what a 20-somethin' bluecat for comparison (a Baby):
Here's a 40-somethin' bluecat with it's anal fin partially compressed:
