  1. looking into my crystal ball I see a matching calcutta/ugly-stick, additional PL holder and 2 alarms in your near future :)

I occasionally like using my abu6500's but have to flip them...PL rodholders may be in my future as well :D

  2. Classic, yes that's Berkley corn, I only use it as a tip though, that creek is real messy, gives me a scent and it's bright, does not float, I wish it did

that is indeed a bummer! i thought that it might be a cheap alternative to imitation pop-up maize.

if you find yourself fishing in the Hudson valley, look me up!

  3. nice report mrbigdave, if you can catch carp in oct/nov your gonna have a great spring!

classicat - he he, told you! (well ment 'in-joke') try foam earplugs, you can cut em to size and soak em in gulp juice or whatever you want too!

stoph...it was a loaded question with you in mind :yourock:

my tiny chunks of rig-foam has been suiting me just fine; I'll save the gulp for stripers (drives them nuts!)...my raingear will forever sink like gulp-alive sandworm b/c of their wonderful packaging

  4. The only difarence I have noticed between the spiecies is the broad snout . grass pickerel tend to be a little pointerand longer where as redfin more broad .( note the difarence between the chains and redfin ) kinda like crocs and gators . I have targeted pickerel for 20 years in orange and that was only the second to come out . Pretty rare

To every one else thanks for the replies and kind words .

Ahh, I see that...thanks for the explanation! Will you be targeting them through the ice as well?

  5. Nice Goin' Ken! Orange lake is literally 5 min from my house! I may have to pull out the cammies

any idea what the differences are between redfin and grass pickerel? they look almost identical to my untrained eye; I would've guessed a grassie which are also uncommon where I used to catch them back in PA.

  6. I will probably wait until after the holidays, but my real problem right now is I need to fix my 50 gallon tank. The glass and seals survived my move intact, but the plastic crossbrace on the top broke. I've tried using plastic epoxy to fix it, but it didnt hold. Anyone ever fixed this before? I was thinking maybe drilling some holes and "sandwiching" the broken halves between two flat pieces of metal with matching holes, then riveting or bolting the sandwich together. I'm just worried the plastic will split.

Here's a pic when I had it up and running. This was a 'nice' fish tank...I gave my cichlids to my sister to put in her 125 gallon tank and decided to try something less aggressive. Tetras, killis, rubber pleco (he was so cool)...

You should avoid using metal altogether...corrosion and potential to contaminate your tank water.

Home depot / lowes now sells fiberglass mesh + epoxy resin/hardner. I built a boat using West-systems...cost me a small fortune. Used the Elmer's (from lowes) for small spot work and it's not bad.

Mix a small amt of resin + appropriate amt of hardner. wet all surfaces of plastic that you want to unify. wrap the fiberglass around the wet resin. if the fiberglass mat isn't completely wet (becomes opaque), brush more of the resin on until it's completely wet. allow to dry. If you want to add another layer of fiberglass/resin for insurance, wet-sand the existing connection (usually gets a waxy post-cure finish), allow to dry and repeat.

  7. For those of you that have been inspired by Minnow's thread to start an aquarium or get out the paddles on an existing setup, here's a comprehensive article on a quarantine tank:

    http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/7...pg2.html?cat=53

"The fact that only about 5% of aquarists maintain a quarantine tank is frightening"

I have my daughter's young Ryukin Goldfish and Pleco under observation in a 5gal receiving preventative antibacterial and antiparasite treatments

  8. i know, i have had tanks and some of my fish for years.

That's awesome! I thought i'd just pass on some lessons not only to you but to who else you've inspired! It looks like Chak is going to start a tank over Holidays...I'd be thrilled to walk her through it!

I had a cichlid tank going for about 10 years. In fact, the 1st jack dempsy was the last to perish. looking back, i feel horrible how i unknowingly tortured those poor fish
