  1. you may know all of this, but just in case:

make sure you monitor your nitrites and nitrates with that much bio-loading (Fish!). If you detect ANY ammonia whatsoever, stop adding fish; it means you do not have a healthy nitrogen cycle.

Before i start adding fish to a tank, i actually use pure ammonia to feed/grow a healthy bacteria colony...this is called a fishless tank cycle starting with dechlorinated water (google it). Prime the bacteria colony by adding a handful of gravel and/or filter media from an established tank. Add pure ammonia drop-by-drop until you measure 5ppm and measure/add every day to maintain 5ppm of ammonia for about 30-days. Do not conduct any water changes during the fishless cycle. I found pure ammonia at the local grocery but be careful...some may contain additives (perfumes/detergents); test by shaking...avoid if it foams. You know when your tank is cycled when a full dose of ammonia added in the evening is undetectable the following morning.

Never had straight tapwater. the chlorine is not only unhealthy for the fish but it also can impact your bacteria colony.

10% water change every week (more than 10% is not recommended). I add dechlorinator to straight tap-water, let it sit out for 2 days and also add a heater so i'm not shifting the tank's temperature. Bonus: I always have water onhand for boiling maize or soaking seeds!

With a good bacteria colony, I don't have to add any "water clarifiers" to my tanks! They're always crystal clear!

There are methods for adding fish to protect your tank from disease...that's another lesson in hospital tanks

  2. Neither - don`t follow sports.

    Brian

I thought that BAM might refer to BAM Morris...that was a stretch if there ever was one :yourock:

If there's a time to start watchin' Steelers, it's right now! We have Troy back in the secondary! Broncos were dismembered last night on MNF!

Up-side is that you have more time to fish

  3. I think this calls for another experiment lol.

I read somewhere, I believe in england?? Not sure, a 47lb carp was caught on sweet corn.

since we are all talking about how sweet corn come's off easily, I would fish sweet corn straight on the hook and not on the hair. I think, it will stay on the hook a bit better. What are your thought's on this? brid, phone?

another option is putting both on your hair. having 4 pieces of bait on the same hair might offend the purists however it gives you some insurance that something is still on your hair after Mr. Carp gives your offering a little taste test.

  4. Chris, im glad its getting abit chilly out, those bollies are not something you wanna forget about in your truck in the middle of august.

...or forget about them in YOUR truck :yourock:

the oyster puree has an interesting smell until it catches up with you...at 1st it's kind of like cream corn...then your other senses kick in

  5. i find that I cannot skimp if i'm using it for hair alignment tubing (keep the line exiting the bottom of the eye). Otherwise, it fails after 1 fish. Fox holds up the best for me so far. I personally like clear b/c i can see what's going inside of the tube after the shrink.
