another great read looking forward to day-3 action! living vicariously through you brotha!

Nice Haul! Va is a great state for flats...i'm jealous Do you ever target them in the upper James?
-
NOW THAT my friend is a vacation! nothign like getting the monkey off of your back on the 1st day!! thanks for sharing!
-
What a trophy! do you intentionally target spots with swamp-grass down to the shoreline? i make a trip to VA every year for bluecats and that seems to have magical powers for catching gizzard shad...does it indicate a specific mix of soil nutrients, etc?
-
it looks like a softball ready for some 'slow-pitch' beautiful fish! thanks for sharing!!
-
Thanks ken, Things have been REAL slow around here, i'm going to stay out later tomorrow night and see if any bigger fish come in shallow.
This is my first year carpin', so i'm trying to figure out where around here they go when it's this hot out.
Any luck on the southern end of the Hudson????
yes but doing better from boat right now. hitting those deeper flats near deep water. the fish are extremely selective.
-
definitely a cool fish regardless of what it is. great catch! thanks for sharing!!
-
this might be one of my favorite threads of all time...and it's not even about carp :S
Great Story BB! ...and way to put things into perspective Craig!
-
my gear collected alot of dust and cobwebs during my daughter's 1st 3 years...making up for lost time now
-
"...and more respected in England than the United States" ...as I clearly illustrate by supporting the full weight of this fish by it's gill plates standing in the middle of my soon-to-be garden where this trophy will become fertilizer
-
I really enjoyed reading your write-up!
I wonder if lil' Rocky was able to appreciate the fact that you didn't drop him on his nose
I see the Flint dumps into the Apalachicola...every fish for flatties?!
-
That cat was a Stinkin' Monster!
I've made some life-long friends carpin' including my next-door neighbor. Guarantee that no matter how much wine he slurps down in his back yard tonight, he'll be waitin' at my truck at 5am sharp!
-
great write-up! man what a heart-breaker. I'm still hunting for my 1st hudson 20 this year. plenty of high-teens that think they're 20 so I guess i can't complain
-
is it deep? I've pulled up a lot of odd looking fish with those symptons in deep swims
This area is < 20'. The main channel in this section might reach 60' however i'm hundreds of yards away from it...Who knows, maybe the word got out to the deep-carpies that I laid out a kick-a$$ bed of bait

This guy graced my mat last week while fishing the Hudson.
I apologize for the image quality...it was pouring rain and I was fighting condensation on my lense. Top-down is the more revealing pose
Have any of you come across a hybrid like this? Rounded snout, protruding gill-plates and bulging eyes are the key features.
Any thoughts on what 'ingredients' went into this frankenfish?

that 31lb is an absolute beast!
-
that's how you rock... Huddy Style! Nice Post!
-
Wow! some big cats being caught this year! Va got her record as well...102lb!
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/outposts/2...ate-record.html
big dude's face is prolly sore-as-hell after being hoisted up by the gill plates at least they got him back in to the river after weighing.

Either she's big or you're tiny
gorgeous spot too!
nice job!!
-
Great Post!
See how hospitable NY can be? Even the fish took a break from bumpin' and grindin' to give an out-of-towner a tug
good job!!
-
great story! A born-again Carper! What a beast of a fish!
-
Nice job! I love that river! Then again, I love all rivers
-
great posting! zebco 88 gettin' it done! no reverse on those things so Jr. must take good care of that drag

My favorite Hudson River Carp...a healthy fish and the fight was explosive. The coloration (relative to other fish from this area) suggests that i baited him out of a nearby 80' abyss. This fish fell to homemade boilie that I cored out and inserted floatation foam.
