The FFF event is never a letdown Jerome! Superbly-run...and with a prize pot to match (not that I would know )
already planning my 2013 strategy!!!

Errr Tribal didn't reply to this thread............................but he should!!
You're right! Solar's avatar looks like Tribal's

As tribal said, don't skimp on the reel. In fact, Bill Stoltz has a set of 4500B's that I'm surprised is even still available.
the Daiwa Theories are way out of your price range of $60/rod. They'll run you 200-220 depending on the TC.

Super job getting the family involved and getting into fish!!! It's awesome seeing the kids smiling ear-to-ear despite the miserable weather!
Excellent write-up!

great shots!!
It looks like October where you are...I need to move!!!

Better late than never!
...and there was a little scare that went along with it...
I baited a spot on Saturday with sweet corn but i think all i was doing was feeding ducks.
Yesterday, 1st thing in the morning, Max (<--) and I went down and baited the spot again....more ducks literally swimming down and sucking-up the corn as I threw it!
In the afternoon, I put my casts right at the edge of the ice along with 2 handfuls of sweet corn...and after a good 30min without any ducks (or icebergs), i hear, "quack...quack...quack".I snapped a few pics of them about to make their dive. As I turned around to put my camera away, my remote starts screaming. I'm thinking..."Oh Duck!!!"
I turned around and I see line peeling-off...the bugger ran way under the ice...and there were still 2 ducks on the surface...what a relief!! -
Originally we were going to target a warm water discharge however the other members had to decommit. Fishing solo, I wanted to be near my vehicle in a familiar area. Regardless, I feel very fortunate to have been able to fish today in relatively mild weather (overcast, 28F with a 10mph out of the North).
Without prebait, I fished a cold swim cold if you will
I was hoping to be greeted by the 1st rays of the 2013 sun as it peeked over the horizon however dense cloud cover extinguished any opportunity.
I arrived during an outgoing tide at 7am. It's a deep water swim therefore I needed to prebait sparingly using method balls (boiled cracked corn + sweet corn + liquidized bread; FANTASTIC smelling concoction!)
Tip: Fishing near my vehicle, I brought a 5 gal of bucket 1/2-filled with hot water for hand washing.
Bottom water temperatures measured with a Reuben) were a chilly 34oF.
Since I would be sitting away from my rods in a steel GM bivvy, I used bolt rigs with very short hooklinks & balanced sweet corn on the hair, size-8 hook on a line-aligner and liquidized bread pack.
Once setup, I snapped a few photos and retreated to my truck to warm the dogs.
It didn't take long before my left-most rod ripped-off! I swept, was into a fish & as quickly as it started...it ended to a pulled hook. It could've been 3lbs or 30lbs...no idea but I'm guessing something in-between (I had flavored the sweet corn on this particular rod with EA tutti fruitti. I would like to think that the alcohol made a difference.)
Slack tide occurred around 9:30am. It's one of several luxuries fishing a tidal river since it provides an opportunity to accurately create a bait pile. I spooned out 3 more small method balls of CC/SC/Bread.
Approximately 1hr after slack tide I had a pretty stiff incoming curren when the left EA tutti frutti rod violently tore-off again with the same results as the 1st run...and the what-if's are starting to plague me at this point
When I recast, I called my wife to remind her to put the pork roast that I prepared the night before into the oven.
At that point, I had college football and "the other white meat" on the brain so i began my exodus from my 2013-FFF swim.
Despite blanking my FFF (again!), I had just enough action to keep my attention...plus, ya just never know what what the Huddy will cough-up!
Many thanks to Jerome for this well-run event!
It's becoming a tradition...one that my family has already grown to accept. Hopefully one of these years I come home smelling like fish!
Happy New Year CAG! -
Thanks for being on-top of it and taking the time to explain that!!! Top-notch all-the-way Willem!
What's more important than this forum is your health! As Jerome said, we'll survive!

My wife had thought my carp sickness had been cured and treated long ago - before we were married. I am still not convinced that she is pleased to see it return again, though at least she is supporting my rehabilitation through tackle during this difficult time for me ! Sadly, or fortunately, once you have the carp disease in your system it has no long term cure - perhaps just a quiet point for a few years!
John
there is no cure. It's terminal!
Back to topic. BCT service is amazing.
To be honest, I'd have to think long/hard about ever having a gripe with any vendor that I've done business with...a list that includes BCT, Resistance, Wacker, CarpKit, New World Carp, Johnson Ross and Scorpion; all have done me well! Knock on wood!
-
That's why I tell mine they sent me free samples for testing them and giving feed back has worked so far lol
have you ever considered marriage counseling? And by that I don't mean the service but the profession!
-
My wife wanted to post her thanks to BCT for their super fast delivery of the items she ordered earlier this week. From order to doorstep was <48 hrs! Sheesh ! Almost as fast as Santa on his sleight the night before Christmas ! So, thanks to BCT ! Excellent ! Of course, what this does mean, is that I must be on Santa's "nice" list this year ...! either that, or my wife is taking up carp fishing ! <unlikely>.
John
I'm still stuck on the first sentence!!! CONGRATULATIONS!
My wife has alot of things to say to tackle vendors...and "Thanks" isn't one of them!

Cat, if you think the Horizon is big/heavy, then you would freak out on the Fox Sky pod...its litterally 3 times the size of the horizon.
I carry a buzzbar bag with 2 carbon buzzbars & an old Sod. Very light, compact and sets up in < 2min.
I do have a massive SS 4-legged contraption for getting my tips up in heavily brackish water which I'm told puts a beating on the black finish on fox gear...otherwise the Horizon would suffice.
At approximately 5pm Thursday, it will be replaced with a scud block...inspired by some recent threads.

You should buy a SOLAR pod to match your user name !
I thought he had a Solar Avatar until I looked closer
Decent Rod Pod (I got one used on the forum myself) that I use for family/friends visiting. Very versatile! My only gripe is that it is a little big/heavy for my taste (keep in mind that I pack lighter than most guys on here).
I've heard of guys stripping plastic ends that position the Legs on the Horizon For that reason, I'd be weary of buying one used.
If an end is stripped, the Pod is useless without replacement parts &/or "creative" modifications.

Great video Shawn!

Excellent!
Very informative and some stunning Fish!!
The PVA + bread is working for ya. Have you tried simply packing it around the lead?

CC. Please leave Gibson Jerome Haynes out of this!
Iain (the other one)

Incredible exclamation mark on your season! Great Job!!
