  1. Posting on BassPro was a REACTION....not a proactive action. Why wait until we feel threatened to react? We should be promoting the sport out in advance of such things. We post lots of pictures of our catches to each other...when was the last time

we submitted a picture to our local paper? They're always looking for "filler". When was the last time we placed a capture photo on the local tackle shops "Catch Bulletin Board". Proactive positive things outside our carp community will turn more heads than reactive actions to things that upset us that us.

Besides...very few people even see the posts on Bass Pro...they're not the main posts on that page, those on the main very visible part of the page, are by BassPro only. By design I might add, they don't want their advertising to be overrun. It's in a very small section way down the left side "Post to Page" that only people with customer service complaints even go to, and that's to make sure their post got there. Other than that, a couple people in Bass Pro Customer Service quickly by pass photos, seldom reading the captions, unless it's of interest to them. Just like we do on Facebook...we quickly bypass cartoons, quotes, advertisements etc. looking for the things that are of interst to us. They're looking for purchase complaints, not hunting and and fishing results.

  2. There are many ways we can become proactive in promoting our sport..just as we are in promoting ourselves as anglers, our particular clubs, our tackle stores, our bait companies etc. If you really want to make your particular interest grow, grow the popularity of carp angling. Instead of just being reactive to those we have differing views with...be just as PROACTIVE in building the "customer base" of our great sport.

There are many ways to do this...I've made separate posts on 3 or 4 of them. These are things that get seen outside of our "4 walls" of comfort of already carp anglers, they get seen by the General public, our target audience. I'm sure many of you have some great ideas as well. Being proactive in building something beats being reactive to others success every time, in the long run at least. Life is good

  3. A great way to promote carp fishing. InFisherman was very key in getting CAG kickstarted, Doug Stange. They've even published articles written by CAG members. Another place to post your prize catch...and get great national circulation. Notice on their site...SELECTIVE Harvest. catch and release anglers can submit twice. Catch n keep only once.

  4. Teaching children to fish is a great thing in itself. Can you imagine the positive publicity a group of carp anglers could get for giving a presentation to kids once or twice a year? PTF is a national program conducted in most states. I'll be attending the 1 day certification class on 15 Apr. Here's a link showing Ohio's...does your state have something similar?

Here's the National link describing more about the program. http://www.outdoorhub.com/stories/2014/03/13/passport-to-fishing-simple-effective-learn-fish-program/

  5. Jetson, an Ohio CAG member, did some policing of his bankspace area this morning...

He was also involved in Team Ohio's clean up of the bank at Midwest Regional Saginaw last year.

Little things like this show very favorable towards anglers using all that fancy gear bankside, it doesn't go unnoticed. Trivia...Wackerbaits used to have some plastic signs reflecting the area had been cleaned by CAG member.

Hat's off to you Jetson...and the other members we have here that do the same. Little things go a long way in progressing our message.
