  1. Following is a copy/paste from a website that's been around since 1999, started by a Lake Erie charter boat. It now covers charters available on Lake Erie, in Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvavia and New York. They mention carp favorably as another angling opportunity in Lake Erie. Even mentions CAG and ACS.

    Lake Erie Carp Fishing

Carp is a common name for various species of freshwater fish of the family Cyprinidae, a very large group of fish native to Europe and Asia. They have been introduced to various locations around the world, though with mixed results. In Lake Erie, the carp is also classified as a Junk Fish as well as damaging naturalized exotic species but with sporting qualities. Many Lake Erie anglers are beginning to view the carp as an angling fish instead of a maligned pest. Many groups such as the Carp Anglers Group and American Carp Society have helped promote the sport and work with fisheries departments to organize events to introduce and expose others to the unique opportunity the carp offers freshwater anglers.

  2. I just finished a long conversation with AF Bob regarding the newsletter. I'm going to begin the legwork to see about printing costs (us or contract printer), size of paper, number of pages, etc. We already have a number of suggestions and suggested template for the newsletter. Any other suggestions, please post them here. AF Bob and I will closely monitor posts and will work with the BOD and members to come up with a great newsletter.

Tip of the hat to you and Ed...good stuff.

  3. Are other states noticing a rise in "Member and Spouse" showing at Fish In's...and both of them fishing. Just counted ours in Ohio, 7 couples. We've got 2, possibly 3, couples on Team Ohio for the Saginaw Midwest Regional. I know Indiana ha a couple and Michigan at least one. Anyhow, just wondering,

  4. Great step forward for sure. We had hoped 3 rods were going to go into effect here in Ohio this year; didn't happen. Rumored surveys showed most anglers didn't want it; exception being Lake Erie charter boats. Has the topic of bow fishing been discussed in CT? Or do you feel it's best not to discuss with them?

  5. Roots and where you come from can be great stabilizers in life. If anyone is interested in getting a view of CAG in the early days, in the CAG store, you can buy a CD with the first ten years of newsletters/NACA (North American Carp Angler) 1993-2002, $9.99. Bud Yancey (far right in photo) didn't own/or didn't use a computer..built it over 1100 members. I still remember Paul Binkley (our first state chair) telling me that Bud would be calling me to interview me to be our next state chair. I also remember the interview and having the purpose of CAG explained to me and it's 4 objectives. He stated he'd also be watching me. It was more of "this is what if expected of you" type conversation. LOL...didn't want to disappoint the boss.

  6. Ok, bob, what did you do to gain the new members and renewals?

2 of the 3 new members fished at our last Fish In in Oct, invited by members....the other, was a member referral and was brought to our social y'day. Seems they think it might be something they want to be a part of.

Renewals??? They like it here...and all want to be on Team Ohio for the Midwest Regional in Saginaw, in May.

  7. Since 2001 Ohio carp anglers have traditionally kicked off the season, in April, at East Harbor State Park, https://maps.google....ed=0CKoBEPwSMAo

and this year will be no exception. We're going a bit earlier than normal this year due to Easter and the Saginaw Midwest Regional. But...it's been fished this early before with good result. East Harbor is a small, shallow inlet off of the southern shore of Lake Erie.

Camping is available in the park, however, there is no camping on the bank, open faced shelters are allowed. The park ranger often patrols at night and as long as you're awake while bankside they don't have any issues.

A restroom is available in the area as well as a covered picnic area that has been the home some great cookouts...deep fried turkey, hot soup late at night, hotwings, etc. Many great memories.

Hotels and restaurants are available within close driving distance to the venue but most of us just get a campsite which is within easy walking distance of the bank.

One problem with East Harbor, as with any west side Lake Erie venue, is that if you have strong westerly winds it can empty out. Great for viewing the venue, not so great for fishing soooooo....1 week prior to the event a "best guess" weather decision will be made and an alternate location selected and announced here.

Lot's of fish are normally caught, the stamp of the average fish is small, less than 10 lbs, as the hornier little guys show up in the spawning grounds the earliest LOL. There have been some nice 20's caught though.
