  1. Thanks for the positive feedback. I'm in talks with Field and Stream trying to attain a few articles they wrote on carp fishing a while back. A few were online but have "vanished".

Kathy is doing a great job promoting carp fishing, and the sport is only going to get larger and larger. I'm glad you liked the interview Dave B) I like the site most for the news, I enjoy seeing new articles popping up every day B)

  2. When I began carp fishing in the early 90s the only thing you could find the words "carp fishing" on was the newsletter sent out from CAG and Nigel's EuroTackle catalog. These days CAG's membership numbers are higher than ever, we have highly competitive tournaments courtesy of ACS with huge money payouts, and carp fishing stories are appearing in the news/fishing magazines. Not to mention there's a carp event being held several times a month somewhere.

Having an IT background I came up with an idea last fall about creating a news site for carp fishing. Other sports fish, such as bass and trout, have them so why not carp? This is where the National Carp Association came into play. The last four months I've been working on creating a site that searched the web for news stories about carp fishing. I've also been contacting news networks in major carp fishing areas about carp fishing stories, etc.

My goal was to create a site that always had up to date news stories on carp fishing and one source site for carp fishing events. After starting work four months ago, with a few other folks, comes the launch of the National Carp Association. The focus of the site is to bring news and updates about the world of carp fishing. You'll find interviews with people who are heavily involved with carp fishing, fun articles about carp, "how to" fish specific waters, and more.

I hope everyone enjoys the new site. Stories and articles are updated bi-weekly and The News Reel is updated daily as stories come available online.

For launch we have two nice Exclusives on koi carp and a very long interview with Kathy Kelly.

    National Carp Association

    Enjoy!

  3. Yea I don't have all that crazy gear yet. Just my rod all set up with my rig ready to go. Cans of sweet corn already in my car ready to go. I don't have the money to buy those pods, alarms, poles, so forth. Got a kid on the way i need to save for.

An excellent rod for starting out carp fishing is the Predator Rod from Cabela's. A lot of folks started out with these rods, including myself.

They're well priced, strong, and have decent range. They're a nice upgrade from the regular spinning rods.

  4. I would say we have no one in Northern VA that knows anything about carp B)

really you are lucky as you have some of the best carp anglers living in the USA in your area I'm sure if you stick around and get to know a couple of them you will learn as much as you can handle from those guys.

    There's carp in Virginia? B)

  5. Lake Royal has tons of carp. If you fish it make sure you are not on private property because the residence there will call the police. Also, don't fish near any signs. There's a few good swims off the south parking lot. If asked state you are fishing for catfish and it wouldn't hurt to bring a bass rod along.

  6. I used to be a PhotoShop professional, often times using the program 70 hours a week. I read that guy's claim, "Tiny", that the photos are fake.

After downloading and reviewing them, they ARE NOT fake. Those zoom in shots he has are common in photos that aren't taken at high resolution. I used to have a 2mb camera (still have it) that will take those same shots. People who analyze photos always think a photo is fake if every single pixel doesn't line up. Let me tell you right now, I've worked with all types of photos and graphics...they don't always line up. I'm talking specifically about the finger shot, if you look at the rest of the photo that type of "cropped" pixeled area is common THROUGHOUT the entire photo. Therefore, it's part of the rendering of the photo from the camera and NOT created in a program.

I look at a few other things but the kicker that tells me it's not a fake is a trick I learned about spotting fakes. In PhotoShop you can change the rendering of the photo in a filter. For certain filters to render a properly looking photo the entire photo has to be 'intact' with the exact same lighting, color balance, etc. If it's not you can tell. I did the filtering and the photo looks perfect.

  7. If I had those in my backyard I would never get any work done around the house. Having a fishery that nice in your backyard is very nice! Good photos, I love catching pike on a fly. They're aggressive, even more so than blue fish - I think.

  8. I have two alligator snapping turtles as pets. It hurts to look at folks hold turtles by their tails, it can really screw them up. Common snappers can be a pain while carp fishing. But, do know you can simply hold them by the shell above the head and above the tail and you'll be safe from injury. You can also, if you're careful, hold them by the side of their shell.

Those are large common snappers though, I haven't come across any commons that large.
