  1. After Neils resounding successes with the tournament, is anybody going to try and continue to run this event?

    Karl :D

It would be interesting to know if the event is going to run next year and is something going to be done about reducing the number on swims on Towne Lake? I have an alternative event that I will attend only if the ATC is not running - and I mean as an event that at least give everyone a better chance of actually catching some fish.

  2. The best feature on a lake is the one where the carp feed with abandon. What that feature is will depend on weather, time of day, location, depth, temperature, dissolved oxygen levels, time of month, time of year, how many carp, depth etc.

Like Eric says it's called watercraft and can only be partially taught, most of it comes down to experience (and lots of it).

  3. Andy - in my area the 5 or 6 lakes that I used to catch larger carp (over 25lb) in are now almost devoid of any carp due to the meat fishermen. I have seen twenty five strong families pulling out carp (and other fish it has to be said) hand over fist all day (they were there park opening hours 6:00 a.m. to 10 p.m. and often past park closing time) for days in a row.

One particular lake it was almost guaranteed I could catch a few high 20's every visit, now I cannot even get a carp bite most time, when I switch to float fishing light (4lb mainline and 2lb hooklength) I can catch carp but they are in the .5 to 1.5lb range.

I can go and catch loads of carp like this last weekend up at Clear Lake but the biggest anyone I know has had out of Clear Lake over the past 9 years is 26lb+ most are high teens with occasional 20s

Sorry for hijacking the thread guys - will get off my soapbox now :D .

  4. Scott - your banned for posting all these pictures of big fish, the big fish in most of the lakes around my way have disappeared into someones cooler or belly and I am getting pretty pissed that all the local waters (other than Clear Lake, which has never really had big fish anyway) don't have any bigger carp.

  5. I'd love to catch one of these things.Theres a good sized lake near me with a few

fish left from some stockings back in the 80's.You don't hear of them comming out

often but when they do they go over 40lb.

Greg - we have them in the San Luis reservoir (about 150 miles from me) up in the high 60lb's.

The US landlocked record came from there at 76lb+ I believe.

Rob - Lots of mid teen to mid twenty stripers from the SF Bay and Delta too.

  6. Ray -

Great tale and and a wonderful result. You tale of woe is one that we all go through at some time or another (usually a few times for those who stick it out in carp fishing forever). My longest blank spell was 14 months and 11 days - the comeback fish was a 33lber that I had tried to catch over a period of 3 years without success, bait was a corner of crust from a fresh loaf of bread that was supposed to be part of my lunch.
