After Neils resounding successes with the tournament, is anybody going to try and continue to run this event?
Karl
It would be interesting to know if the event is going to run next year and is something going to be done about reducing the number on swims on Towne Lake? I have an alternative event that I will attend only if the ATC is not running - and I mean as an event that at least give everyone a better chance of actually catching some fish.

The best feature on a lake is the one where the carp feed with abandon. What that feature is will depend on weather, time of day, location, depth, temperature, dissolved oxygen levels, time of month, time of year, how many carp, depth etc.
Like Eric says it's called watercraft and can only be partially taught, most of it comes down to experience (and lots of it).

Great going dude - maybe there are no carp where you are fishing!!

Well done Stewart

Andy - I see no PM!!!!
-
Andy - in my area the 5 or 6 lakes that I used to catch larger carp (over 25lb) in are now almost devoid of any carp due to the meat fishermen. I have seen twenty five strong families pulling out carp (and other fish it has to be said) hand over fist all day (they were there park opening hours 6:00 a.m. to 10 p.m. and often past park closing time) for days in a row.
One particular lake it was almost guaranteed I could catch a few high 20's every visit, now I cannot even get a carp bite most time, when I switch to float fishing light (4lb mainline and 2lb hooklength) I can catch carp but they are in the .5 to 1.5lb range.
I can go and catch loads of carp like this last weekend up at Clear Lake but the biggest anyone I know has had out of Clear Lake over the past 9 years is 26lb+ most are high teens with occasional 20s
Sorry for hijacking the thread guys - will get off my soapbox now .

Scott - No I need to move all the others to the East Coast
-
Scott - your banned for posting all these pictures of big fish, the big fish in most of the lakes around my way have disappeared into someones cooler or belly and I am getting pretty pissed that all the local waters (other than Clear Lake, which has never really had big fish anyway) don't have any bigger carp.

karl just curious if there is a preffered cup size one needs in order to excell at catching mirror Carp ???LOL
Maybe Karl should spill the beans about cup size to Neil?

Great job Brad - and nice patience waiting for the fish to get free of the snag. Excellent series of pictures too.

(I'll do it here to save the mods from having to 'preview' two posts)

I'd love to catch one of these things.Theres a good sized lake near me with a few
fish left from some stockings back in the 80's.You don't hear of them comming out
often but when they do they go over 40lb.
Greg - we have them in the San Luis reservoir (about 150 miles from me) up in the high 60lb's.
The US landlocked record came from there at 76lb+ I believe.
Rob - Lots of mid teen to mid twenty stripers from the SF Bay and Delta too.
-
Supposed to be 75 on Saturday and 85 on Sunday here in Nor Cal - Baseball Saturday, carping Sunday.
-
Looks like you got more coming Phone - big storm system moving from the Rockies right out your way.
-
Jim - We are undecided as yet but if we come both Kristina (my wife) and I will be fishing the event. Biggest dependancy is if there is a CAGI in So Cal or nearer.
-
Nice one that guy.....
-
Jim - how far from Long Lake(Thurston) is Banks? I happen to know there are some monstrous carp in Long Lake.
One rod only is a bummer to fish for smaller carp It's still a long way to come for a bunch of babies
-
Excellent stuff Angela, that at least 3 diffent ladies who upped their PB's this weekend (all into the mid- to high 20s too).
A huge well done to all of you.
-
Jim - If I don't need a license does that mean I can fish with more than one rod for carp specifically? Could you find out and advise?
Also is there camping on the lake - meaning the ability to fish on after the event.
-
Excellent action John - you need more backing or a stronger drag
-
John - you are tearing them up right now - wish I had the time to get out there (or even here ). Good job guy.
-
Are they Koi's Pat? You will definitely like it when you get the polarizing filter, just be careful to ensure the filter is lined up correctly when you take the shot (auto-focus cameras will rotate the filter out of polarization).

Great tale and and a wonderful result. You tale of woe is one that we all go through at some time or another (usually a few times for those who stick it out in carp fishing forever). My longest blank spell was 14 months and 11 days - the comeback fish was a 33lber that I had tried to catch over a period of 3 years without success, bait was a corner of crust from a fresh loaf of bread that was supposed to be part of my lunch.
Will there be an ATC next year?
in ATC 2010 and back...
