  1. Very enlightening!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For an old coot like me, after 35+ years chasing trout & bass in fresh water and assorted saltwater predators with the fly, these videos are really opening my eyes to a new world of fishing, and for a lot of people down here in Mexico.

I still have to find a place like that over here, though!

    Thanks for posting this.

Is you avatar one of your flies - I think it looks really cool.

  2. I have caught carp after casting to both jumping and rolling carp, however fish rolling over my baited area are what gets me excited as I associate that sort of movement as feeding or pre-feeding behaviour.

  3. Admin should create a forum that with permission masks only they can see right at the bottom called deleted topics, then go to admin CP and set all topics deleted to go to there. Admins could then delete them permamantly from there or leave them if need be, this would allow people to create and delete there own topics, thus tidying sections themselves when needed

    just an idea :D

This is what we do on the Carp.com forum.

  4. Mike - I was suggesting that we have the event one day on Towne and the other on Austin. Draw once get day 1 on Austin and day 2 on Towne, or vice versa. Lake Austin is bigger than just Emma Long, there is at least one other ara that is large enough to hold a few teams (it can be seen from the 360 Bridge).

  5. And because you may NEED a baitboat, doesn't mean you've been able to afford one yet! :D

But then if you cannot afford a bait boat you cannot afford $500 rods and $400 reels that allow you to caast close but not close enough. :D So should we ban those? In fact why not make everyone use exactly the same tackle that way it comes down to water craft??????

  6. No bait boats please! This would give an advantage (perceived or real) to the owners of. This could possibly and quite probably discourage entries.

Mark - why is this any different than having the gear to cast 150+ yards, or enough money to be able to pour bait in the water like it's going out of fashion, or using a new super secret flavour/bait/method that no one else has, or sponsored anglers having unlimited supplies of bait/tackle etc?

I say if you got it bring it!!!!!!

All I know is that there are areas of the lake that fish hold that are not fishable without a method of getting bait and hookbaits out a very long way. Upstream of the I35 bridge the fish consistently hold 10-50 yards from the far (unfishable) bank, being able to get free bait out there would catch more carp, same with the area opposite the baseball fields being unfishable from the baseball field side without being able to bait up the fish just stay over there. I can probably think of at least 4 or 5 more areas that would benefit from the use of bait boats.

  7. Hopefully this will come to pass,,,,,and if it does it is because of many factors:

    1) the Dedication of Carp Anglers in every state that religiously have come to Town over the past 6 years

    2) the Realization of the Department that Carp Angling can bring a new excitement to angling in Texas

    3) The tremendous work, of all of Texas Carp Crews, and the respect that they show for the fish, and the venues that they fish in

    4) A department head, ( Phil Durocher) that is even minded and receptive to new ideas

    5) the fantatic work that Muktahr and others have done over the years

    6) the infectious bite of the Carp Angling bug

    7) The willingness of the Texas Cag chapter to assist the dpeartment in fish ins, events etc....

I am proud to have been here at a time where this change is taking place, proud of the Carpers in Texas that have all in thier own way contributed to this happening, and Darned proud to be a member of CAG !!!

Neil - Well said with one proviso

    8) The drive and initiative to start this may have been others, however it required leadership and direction, this was supplied by Neil Stern.

If I had a vote Neil would absolutely recieve the Queen of the Carp award (or whatever that thing is named) now and for a few years to come.

  8. Well folks here I go

The event needs some serious changes made to it if people are going to continue attending in numbers in the future. Forty plus pegs on Towne Lake is about 20 plus too many pegs. The event needs to be split on to at least Lake Austin and Towne if anglers are to have a reasonable chance of catching fish. If the lake had 25 swims capable of producing fish every time it would be a different matter as then at least you have a 50% chance of getting a good swim on one of the days, however at this time of year there are a small number of swims (about 10) that produce fish regularly enough to be included in a competition of this size.

Several other things that maybe could help are:-

    • to heavily prebait all areas to be used during the event (in an attempt to get the fish to split up somewhat)
    • to allow the use of baitboats or even regular boats (which would allow people to get bait out to the areas that fish hold up in
    • to go back to the old format of keeping the same peg both days thus allowing the teams to get some bait in for the second days fishing without being concerned that they were baiting up for someone else (of course this would then preclude some from getting a swim that would produce fish anyway),
    • move the event to one month later (say late April rather than late March)
I heard lots of talk about new swims being opened up and the notorious "dead zone" being removed but when I checked out the map it seemed we were fishing the same old areas all over again.

These are just my concerned ramblings about what can be done to have anglers at least catch a few fish, after travelling thousands of miles and spending hundreds of dollars to do so. The social side is great but personally I want to catch carp or buffalo and the social aspect is just an added bonus.

None of the above is meant to detract from the fact that the event was still the best I have been to that I did not catch any fish at (even better than the WCC on the St Lawrence).

OK Guys and Gals - fire away now :D

  9. This Year Neil experimented with the shirts......and finally convinced Jim, to go with a new,,,NON-Traditional shirt,,,,

    it's TYE-DYED :D:D:D

Sponsors who will not be at the event have already had thiers mailed to them,,,,everyone else that Pre-Purchased can get them at the registration desk at the Corn Boil.....

Yes sizes from Small to 4X.....

If you didn't pre- order,,,See me, or Neils' daughter Rissi...we might have an extra one in your size ! :D

    No guarantees !!! :D

Jackie - I don't know if Karl order them for us but if not I need a Large for me and a Medium for Kristina

    Let me know please

  10. 8) TEAM-"SCORPION TACKLE"-KARL HAYMER & KEITH THOMPSON--CALIFORNIA ----- 42:1

Nutha year, nutha teammate. Keith goes through teammates like he goes through underwear. And jobs. And titles on this forum. And conspiracies. And drama. And chicks....you get the idea. Karl will most likely be using the "6-legged" rod-pod he now owns. Talk about stability. That's about the only thing stable about him, though. Brian Capien will be there. He is far from the old men you usually pick on, Karl.

    Run.

You forgot to take into account our secret weapons (Kristina and Carol) :D:D:D

  11. I know where you are at mate. Do you mean Darenth or Dartford?

OK imagine you are on the M25 about to go through the tunnel from Kent to Essex, take the very last exit before the tunnel, turn right and you go to Cotton Farm, left and you see the power station on your right, between the road and the power station is a lake, that's the one (has no official name). Lots and lots (like in the hundreds) of low to mid doubles and about 30 20lb+ fish including 3 or 4 orver 30lb. If you have Google Earth the co-ordinates are 51.27' 27.73" North, 0.14' 16.43" East

Dartford (DDAPS) is the exit before and down the hill to the left, Darenth is also the exit before but turn right and back track about 3-4 miles to where Bob Morris's shop is then over the hill to the lakes. Dartford Sutton is another 2 to 3 miles back again and Leisure Sport Sutton another mile on, last in the chain of lakes is Horton Kirby.

  12. The cold weather and frost has made it difficult fishing lately, but I managed to hook a nice fish in the early hours of yesterday morning. A raging storm blew during the night, and this must of got a few big lumps feeding and moving over the baits. I had cast a 20mm Shellfish boilie at long range to fall just short of some submerged tree branches that were now underwater due to the floods of the nearby river bringing up the lake water-table. Here is a pick of the fish. A very deep-bodied fish with enormous frame. Not the usual streamlined long common carp that I prefer, but this mirror did put up a good fight during the storm:

Nice one Tony, always seems that some biggies make mistakes the last week of Feb/first week of March.
