Aha now I know what you are talking about Karl.
-
Karl - were you down at S again or was it P?
-
No joy Friday evening or Sunday morning, hope they are still around on Tuesday (next time I can get there)
-
Found the pictures but moved again so they are in transit again. The salmon are about 45-60 minutes out now but the catches tend to be smaller ones rather than the 20's.
-
Here's the sitch - the fish move in and out of this area over a 75 minute period each time they come in one or two will go down and eat some corn. There is less and less available corn now so all I have to do is get my bait in position, when they come in and hope that my patch is the one they eat from. Since I did not bait up this morning I am hoping that this evening the amount of corn is minimalised enough that they "have to" eat mine - if of course they are still there.
Eric - there is plenty of natural food in the lake but this area does not seem to have any clams like a lot of the other areas being more gravelly thus having no where for the clams to live. I suspect this is why the crays are smaller in this area.
-
No mulberries, in fact not really as lot of natural food around the lake at all.
-
Phone - they are eating the corn quite voraciously and the area they are in is almost devoid of clams, there are some small crayfish. I definitely do not need a boilie of any type, more likely some sort of natural

Was there from dawn until I dragged my butt into work, so were the fish but they are still not co-operating so nothing yet. Another update this evening.
By the way this is a no overnighting lake that is patrolled regularly (I was nearly busted last night but got out in time) so thats why the dawn to dusk routine.

Just got in from the lake no luck this evening but they are still there and had been clearing up some of the Jolly Green Giant I had put in earlier. I watched one fish that looks to be about 50lb with its head down in the solk weed on the bottom rooting about where the corn was but it never got to my bait.
In case anyone wants to know I am using 4 grains of canned corn (the aformentioned Jolly Green Giant) on a size 6 Super Specialist, a stop knot made of power gum about 12 inches up the line with some brown Kryston heavy metal, this is all tied to 12lb Big Game in green (camouflaged sp on the bottom) straight through and watching the fish feeding and the line where it enters the water. Where the fish are there is a drop of about 18-20 feet to the water so the net is about 60 yards along the bank where I can get close to the water if I do hook one (and I think I will only get one chance as it has been nearly two years since I last saw this group of fish) - basically I am stalking them with one rod, no pods, buzzers, hangers or the like - just a rod laying on the ground while I watch off the top of the bank to see what is going on (the rod is one of my 13 foot Diawa Amorphous' reel is a Shimano Baitrunner GT8010)
I will be back tomorrow morning for a couple of hours and then again tomorrow evening.

Errr I think not Phone
-
The record is 52lb from Naciamento in 1968 - at least half the fish in the group would be that big or bigger.
-
I think if I could find them pre spawn that the really big one would be over the 70lb mark - they all have a few marks on them so they have obviously spawned already.
-
Well this afternoon at lunch I found the big carp again at my very local lake (there is not one of this group of 11 fish that is under 45lb in my estimation and there are a couple that could easily be over 60lb). Spotted them in an area I have never seen them before (I walk this lake just about every day since I became single) so ran back to the car and got some bait out there in the area. I will be returning this evening to see if they are still there and see if I can't catch at least one of them. Can't wait to get out of work now.
I will be sure to let everyone know what happens

Steve, did you used to have anything to do with the IAC and CarpL, Second Chance
-
Great picture and a great looking fish Miguel - well done once again on a new PB.
-
I feel a trip to San Diego is in order.
-
Terry - when are you going up to Clear Lake?
-
One other thing I would not recommend adding baking soda to your mix as even though it have the "fizz" it does taint the water. I mean here is something you can clean stains with, do you think carp will like that?
-
Oh by the way I see PVA bags in the same way as the Pay Lake guys see packbaits. They work exactly the same way.
-
How about some of you PVA pros offer up some things you like to do that might not be obvious to a PVA newby.
I got a suggestion via email the other day to pack in some bait, put on a layer of baking soda and powdered milk, then pack the rest of the say with more bait. Supposed to give a nice cloud to attract the fish. Sounds interesting and I'd for sure never have thought of it.
Which is basically what Hollywood's article describes
-
Can I just add as one of the biggest advocates of PVA bags that this method is one of the most under-rated and under-used anywhere.
How many people at the ATC were using PVA bags, or at the CCC?
-
I hope you are not bringing those guys to Clear Lake we all may as well give them the trophy right now. Actually I have some spare gear that i would be prepared to let them use while you are up here.
-
It's supposed to smell like that. Just leave the lid of the buckets open for a few hours and the stench will go away.

Todd - this dance can only be performed after three consecutive blank weeks (21 days of not catching) of carp fish and must be perform in company of at least one experienced dance. No nakedness is required although you may if you wish perform naked (whatever floats your boat ). The addition of alcoholic beverages, beer and wacky baccy is permitted
Found the biggies at last

Steve,
No this is not the same water as my previous biggies have come from but another largish lake in the Bay Area. I have yet to catch anything but a couple of high singles from this lake (and that was late last year) so do not need to worry about these biggies having been captured on my bait before. I have been here nearly 7 years and seen this group of fish only 5 times now in that period - they appear to be quite nomadic as I have only seen them twice in the same area (not where they are now). There are vast areas of this lake that are unfishable due to no access, no boating, no swimming etc. etc.
Did not get a chance to go down Monday and no chance to fish yesterday (which was windy so could not see if the fish were still in the area). Will be trying again this evening.
