  1. I think it would be great if the photos of the event could be compiled into some sort of presentation reflecting on the event, instead of just announcing the winners and the numbers they caught. I think sharing pictures would really up the quality of the banquet, but realize it would be difficult in the short timeframe from the end of the event to the awards ceremony.

This is also something that should be done when the annual/regional big fish awards are handed out at the plenary meeting.

Tim a great idea that should definitely pursued further, but I am not sure it "makes the ATC better" until after the event.

  2. Mark - I guess I have a different view on what the event is - past three years I have been in one swim that produced any fish, travelling 1800+ miles to fish swims with no fish is not my idea of fun, heck I can travel 1.8 miles from my house to fish a swim with no fish.

I do tend to agree that allowing a CAG sponsor to potentially take away participants from the event by advertising on the very same forum and in the NACA might just be "asking for it".

  3. I know this years ATC (2008) has not even been held yet but I would like to see some discussion on how to ensure better attendance and how to make this into a better event for all CAG members.

Ideas, suggestions all welcome. Knocking, slagging off etc. unwelcome.

My first suggestion is a later date - I know for me that getting time off this close to the start of the vacation year is an issue for both Kristi and I. I also know that some people stated that Easter is not a good time for the event. Later might be better as the groups of carp actually break up post spawn, and yes I know post spawn means fish carrying less weight, but is it not better to catch a few fish at 20lb than no fish at all if you are not near the shoal. Every year swims located near the big shoals have won the event - wait for the shoals to break up and a more even event might be had.

  4. So people choosing the Tennessee event over the ATC? I though Wayne had only 10 or so for the Tennessee event too. That would still make less than 30 teams.

I personally believe that the CAG needs to do much more to ensure one of it's premium events actually gets full entry - I know I have several reasons for not being there and I know others have their own reasoning behind not attending. I think this event needs a serious overhaul if it is going to survive more than a couple more years!!!!!

  5. How about somebody write a good step by step tutorial on posting pics?

Start with what settings to use on the camers.

"splain" how to save the pics.

"splain" how to resize them-----resizing for dummies.

Then--splain how to post--and how many pics to upload to each post?????

Even if there's a good one on here---bring it back to the top somehow. I run Broadband and a fast pc and mine's had a nervous breakdown a time or two also.

    Resizing Pictures Pinned Post

800x600 is a good size for most peoples monitors and no more than 96dpi can be viewed on the internet anyway.

The CAG gallery is always available to those who want to post full size images that they can point people to.

  6. If you want to catch sturgeon like come out here to the Bay Area in Jan-April (peak time), my biggest is 107 inches which according to the length/weight chart I check should be 370-395 lb. Just about every winter I catch a few small ones (3-4 feet) from the shore and out in the boats 6 footers are very regular.

  7. The MIRROR is truely a beautiful fish,, :D what continues to amaze me is the incredible number of scale patterns,,,each one unique,,,

As soon as the club gets a few more $$$, I'm going to see if we can't afford some "TAGS" and try to make them available to the membership, so we can "TAG" our notable captures, and watch them progress......

Hmmm???? anybody know if this is legal or not?????

I was thinking of a tag that says "CARP ANGLERS GROUP" and a Number, which we can have available on a link on the site...

once a notable mirror, ( say 15 pounds or over) is captured, the angler would record the weight, girth and picture of the fish on a site, along with the tag number, and the location of the capture, for instance Lady Bird Lake, 1st street bridge.... then if the fish were re-captured, another angler could record the tag number, look it up and add to the descriptions under that number,,,,,,

    for Example:

    Tag # 12345--Original capture -Emma Long,Campsite #8, Sept. 4th 2008--17 pounds, 20" girth, 20 inches long Neil Stern

recaptured- Lady Bird Lake Lake, 1st treet bridge January 15th , 2009,18.5 pounds, 22 inch girth,21 inches long--Peter Carp

Oh well just a thought??? :D

Neil and Elmer - I don't think there is anything to prevent you tagging any fish (unless they are protected), no states that I know of have regulations preventing tagging. This is a great idea. New thread started here

  8. Thank you guys! ...We are glad to be here.

You are very right about the gill, it will NEVER happen again! :D I must say, after reading this forum and other links form Ed's wonderful site, I have learned a lot about Carp and Carp fishing. We have never been this excited about them as we are now. We have always liked to fish for them but now we cant wait to get back out there.

Edit: Keith....Ellis lake is a small lake that is in the middle of Marysville Ca. it is full of Carp (these may be the wrong names but it is what we have always called them.) Mirror, Fan Tails, Goldie's, and Koi.

    John stephenson (J.P.)

John - I was checking as there is another Ellis Lake in Walnut Creek too........ You should join us for the first of the NCCC 2008 Derbies at Ellis (Marysville) on the 22nd March

  9. Hello everyone,

I am very glad to have found this website. I have a large family of 8 and we all love to fish. We fish for just about everything. One thing I have taught these guys is to not be one dimensional when it comes to fishing. Some people look down on Carp like they are junk fish. I tell them keep thinking that way and just leave these "junk" fish for us. On many occasions I have heard buddies say I cant wait to go fishing! When I say "Lets Go"! I get the same old reply, "But the Striper's aren't in yet or the Largies just aren't hitt'n". I tell them, "well lets go catch some Carp". CARP!! NO WAY! I just smile, grab the kids some Strawberry Jam couple loafs of white bread, and off to my fav. carp hole for some drag singing big scale slinging fun!

This is my Son Cameron with a beautiful gem he caught on Stawberry white bread.

My guess 10 to 12 pounds

    Thank you,

    John Stephenson J.P.

John - which Ellis lake is this?

  10. And I don't see what it has to do with you where the organisers peg the event......................... It is what it is dude, you pull a number and that is where you have to fish: Dogs, boats, divers, kayak, long walks, every other peg.

For the record I and others have had multiple captures of multiple fish in the dog park areas of the lake both during and after the event

  11. Sounds like a good plan to me; esp. taking out the official Austin Dog Park near the SRV statue -- AF Bob and I had a terrible time there last ATC on a sunny Saturday afternoon. There must have been more than 10 dogs in the water at any given time... Pure hell...

    -Marius

You made your point Marius - you don't want the dog swims. Best way to ensure that is not fish the event - let the organisers decide which swims they need in or out of the event and stop whning about the dang dogs.

  12. Karl.

that California mail is something else,,,,,,I can't undersand it ??????? :D

Stewart, far as your concerned, I took you off the list :D:D:D

Strange that I get mail and parcels from the UK (on regular postal service) faster than from wherever the NACA is mailed. I get stuff mailed from New York, Detroit and Miami on media mail and it gets here faster than the NACA.

neil do they send the NACA's out in small batches to each state or something along those lines?

  13. Great news !! I just "hooked up" (don't pardon the pun !!) with Jim Kirkman -- and, we'll be fishing the ATC under the Team Texicali banner !!

Really looking forward to meeting everyone -- and generally having a blast !! My only other Carp fishing outside California was with Andy Sprinkle in Mi last year -- and that was a lot of fun.

This will be my first ever major Carp tournament ( at 54 yrs old !!) -- SO -- go easy on us !! :D

    Cheers,

    Brid.

Dude, Jim is a great guy and an even better carp angler. If you get a couple of half decent swims it should be a good tournament for the pair of you.
