  1. i am in search of this or any other books (hardcover preferred) on fly fishing for carp. i work down the block from the national sporting library. (http://www.nsl.org/index.html) its is a libraray dedicated to the outdoor sports specifically , equestrian, hunting , fishing, shooting sports , sporting dogs etc. i recently donated two books on fly fishing (non carp) to the library and was there tonight for a lecture and in talking to the librarian while looking at the fishing section she said they didnt have any books on fly fishing for carp. i am willing to buy a book from oa member or arrange if you want to have it donated in your name or kids name or mother in laws name :D etc etc

    Mark,

How many years running is this tradition?

ill have to get the official word from Pat but i think i asked him last year fior the fall fish in and and i f i remember right he said 15 years so this would be the beginning of the 16th year running. You and nicki and the little one should try and make it :D this is the fish in that folks from across the world come to fish as it has nice fish and , great history and is a unique fishery in the united states.

  4. thanks pat ill have to go on there and post up havent been to those sites in a while , heck i havent fished in a while LOL

haines point is a perfect place to bring a kid room to run around if they get bored and can even go after other species if its about fishin and not specifically carp no shortage of bank space thats for sure.

  5. Clean up your gear get ready for action, its spring time in washington and the longest running CAG fish in is back .

We will start saturday May 14th at haines point

. Sunday may 15th is a day on the tidal basin

The dc fish is a tradition in CAG it is a widely popular fish in with anglers coming from far and wide to attend.

it is also a tradition that at least one if not many PB'S are realized as fish can get up into the high 30's

The dc fishing license is cheap and available now online and once again i will provide dinner on saturday night for all who are attending at haines point. BBQ grill will be available for lunch cooking if you wish . remember to pack lunch and beverages as there arent any real close by stores. it is federal property so no firearms :D and or liquor is allowed.

Sunday will bring us to the tidal basin where you can fish with the backdrop of our nations most revered monuments.

What a great time to visit DC with the family. If they dont fish there are many attractions for them to visit all within earshot of the basin and haines point. presidential monuments , the smithsonians , the mint , the holocaust museum, the museum of the american Indian, the air and spce museum , The national aquarium, great shopping and sightseeing for all ages.

Hotels , world class restaurants are nearby. 3 rods allowed saturday we fish over a railing ( pods set to sky mode usable as well as bank sticks taped to railing and other such techniques. sunday is bankside, pods and bank sticks usable in most areas. corn and boilies work well basin is great for float fishing as is haines point but a little more difficult due to railing. Like big cat fish ? haines point might be the place to send out a chunk of cut bait on the 3rd rod for a potomac river blue monster.

Our local anglers will be on hand to make your visit an enjoyable one and answer most if not all questions you may have.

look forward to seeing old friends and making new ones.

  8. thanks for the clarification phone :D like i said, only mentioned it cause its been mentioned before :D ... ill be fishing mainline pineapples the week b4, they've won the event a few times too if i remember right or at least been responsible for some of the big fish :D

  9. My opinion is that this is not cheating because Scott probably doesn't have enough of the "secret bait" to condition the majority of carps in Town Lake (even a fraction of the carps) to favor his bait. I mean how much carp is in the 5 mile stretch of Town Lake and how much of the secret bait would he need to condition a sizeable number of them? The answer...A LOT!...which would cost at least 10 million dollars  ...On a side note, I wish I had a million dollars :o

But Scott is just kidding around.

mike not insinuating cheating :D the same subject had been brought up at an earlier ATC a few years ago also by a texan who said they would be dumping in bait before the event ....

that being said i can not make it to the ATc this year but will be fishing the lake the week b4 during the sxsw music fest . ill probably be at or near first street bridge .

good luck to all the participants

  10. you guys can talk all the smack you want but experience and the right bait will win the tournament. I've been dumping the right bait in the lake all winter and will all the way up until the tourney and if you don't have the right bait you'll be waiting a long time for a run

scott , is dumping in bait right up until the tourney( im hoping you meant you were gonna stop a week b4 the tourney) , kinda..... sorta......its a stretch technically fishing .....? at least kinda.... sorta... its not so much a stretch and could be argued that doing so gives you an upperhand on all the others coming in from out of town who dont have that luxury ? I know its been argued before.....

    Rules:

    • No pre-fishing in Town Lake from Sunday through the start of the event. Anyone seen not complying with this will disqualify his or her team from the competition and the entry fee will not be refunded. All participants are allowed to plumb and research the lake; this includes the use of SMART CASTS.

  11. Some of the best parts of our trips always seem to go down in the ol memory banks and get to be played over again when your out somewere and something happens to trigger that memory. From now on every time I see anything about caskets I'll remember how Big Bird wanted to get in one to take a picture when Rick "Pine Box" showed up in that big ol casket truck.......and wanted US to get in with him. Aint happenin Bird!

    priceless thanks for sharing !!!
