Sorry to have to point this out Jerome...........but last time I checked your own "tally" was only a couple of pounds north of MINUS 2.
Hence, you are dangerously close to being oufished by my WEIGH SLING!!
Best Wishes!

A couple more from Friday evening to offer Jerome some encouragement.

Hi SoCal
I'm sure Jerome is just waiting until he has something significant to post for the Big4. He is retired now and has plenty of flexibility to time his fishing trips!
Iain

Well I only posted one fish so far.....a 22.12.......but here is a somewhat larger photo.
Now I just need to find one twice the size.

EVENT CANCELLED DUE TO LACK OF INTEREST
I will still fish......so if anyone decides they want to turn out after all I should be at the river by 1200-1300 tomorrow.
Iain
-
OK Jerome........but I will probably fish anyway. The earliest I could arrange anything after this weekend would be the weekend after Columbus Day.
Iain
-
OK folks.......I need to know if anyone plans to attend the Fish-In on Saturday? If you do, please let me know before midday on Friday otherwise it will be cancelled.
Regards,
Iain

Welcome Steve
FYI there are outlets that sell carp gear and baits over here in the US, much of it being exactly the same brands that you will be familiar with in Europe, Click on the Vendors and Sponsors button on the entry page and you will find some options in the US and Canada. One of them (Resistance) has ceased business but I believe the remainder are still trading.
Best wishes.

Hi Steve
Actually Wacker Baits are still operational under new ownership. I bought some leads and other items last week.

Ah, the things I do to have witness(es) available to testify that I can and will outfish Iain once again...
Yes, that must be tough. If it helps........I feel your pain!

OK. How about we set the event for midday on Saturday 24th through to around the same time on Sunday 25th October.........but feel free to arrive and leave earlier or later as individual participants see fit? We may encounter a few issues with drifting weeds in the margins depending on the wind direction but I fished a couple of spots that were similarly afflicted this weekend and managed to land a few fish without too many problems.
Based on present conditions I think we can handle about ten or twelve anglers.

Dear New England Carp Anglers,
Jerome and I have been reflecting on the success of the recent MA CAG overnight Fish-In and I am considering organizing a rematch on the weekend of Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th of September. Please let me know if you are available and would be interested in attending?
Regards,
Iain

Thanks Jerome
Yes it did go rather well..........and I particularly enjoyed the fact that most of us "old fogeys" got a good lesson in carp catching from our younger participants. I blanked apart from a "drive-by" ten-pounder on Bob White's rod while he was away taking some gear to his car in the morning.
The good turnout was encouraging too, with five attendees from RI (Todd Richer, Bob and his wife Janice, his friend Vernon and son Nick) and seven from MA (Franky and Charlie DeMayo - plus Dad Chris - Jason Berger, Franky's friend Patrick, Jerome and myself. I am not quite sure but I suspect that the whole DeMayo family and Patrick landed new PB's........and Jason equaled his! Congratulations guys.
FYI I have three CAG medals (gold, silver and bronze) to award to the captors of the biggest carp caught at a MA CAG Fish-In during 2016. The current standings are:
Gold: Patrick - 18 pounds.
Silver: Franky - 17 pounds 12 ounces.
Bronze: Charlie - 17 pounds.
FYI I plan to have two more Fish-Ins during the fall. Please let me know if you would like one of them to be another overnight session?
Best wishes.

Interesting idea. That's cool. Methuen is really bad with mosquitoes at this time of the year though. Lowell seems more appropriate. Beware of the catfish anglers though, we'd better claim the various spots before dusk.
I am only tentative, I need to go get my younger son from a camp on that Saturday, not quite sure when I'll be back.
Thanks Jerome
Actually, I encountered no mosquitoes at all last Saturday night,,,,,,,,perhaps because there was a light breeze blowing until the early hours of Sunday morning. Probably a good idea to bring to bring mosquito coils just in case.
Iain
P.S. Some carp anglers are pretty adamant that getting mossie repellent spray on your bait will reduce the likelihood of getting a bite. Could be true, but personally I think it is highly unlikely that anyone has ever funded a physiological or behavioral study of the response of C. carpio to DEET.

Update
Franky is IN.........accompanied by his brother and Dad.
Daphne Forster is IN
Confirmed participants: Redcoat, Bob White, Jerome, Franky, Daphne Forster

Update
Just a note to confirm that the event will take place on the Merrimack River at Ayer Street, Methuen, MA. I fished there last night and the fish were very active during darkness. We have space for ten anglers, twelve at a stretch. Due to unusually low water levels there is more weed growth than usual so you may want to increase hook sizes and leader strengths a little.
So far the list includes myself, Bob White and Jerome with Jason and Franky "probable".
Additional members who want to participate should send me a PM or post in this thread so I can keep track of the numbers.
Hope to see you next week.

Hi Franky
Good to hear from you.
You can turn up at any time you like. I plan to turn up Saturday mid-afternoon, probably around 4 pm, and stay until late morning on Sunday...........or later if the fish are active. I think Jason is also hoping to attend so you could potentially share a ride.
Look forward to seeing you then.

Dear New England Carp Anglers
It appears that the extremely high temperatures will start to moderate during the next couple of weeks so I am thinking about hosting a fish-in on the weekend of 8/27-8/28. In a change from our usual daytime format I propose that we meet on Saturday afternoon and plan to fish overnight as this is often more productive during the summer months. Venue will most likely be the Merrimack River - in either Methuen or Lowell depending on the number of anglers who wish to participate.
Sign-up in this thread or send me a PM if you plan to attend.
Best wishes.

Hi
Recently moved to NJ from Yorkshire in the UK, unfortunately my tackle couldnt travel with me
Looking forward to catching up with any carpers that are nearby me, That for me is the best way to learn what is transferable from the tackle I had / used in the UK, more importantly where I can get a hold of it
Welcome Gizzy
Which part of Yorkshire? All of my family hail from there.......so I need to establish if I'm allowed to talk with you.
There is some good carp fishing in NJ and quite a few CAG Members live there.

We can discuss this further on the bank this evening. If you happen to arrive before I do kindly refrain from depositing any of your toxic maize in my swim.

In the lead? Are you serious? Sounds highly unlikely to me!
Looks like I might just have to drag my abused body to the shore after all. How many more days are there?

Hi Kirk
Can I borrow your wife for the Spring 2017 Big-4? I am prepared to pay extra if she can also cook tiger nuts!
Many congratulations on the big kitty Kirk. I wonder how far one would have to drive from Salem, MA, to find Flatheads?
