  1. Help Needed!!

It has come to my attention that Jerome currently remains in first place for Big Fish in the Spring 2016 CAG BIG-4 contest. I would like to take the opportunity to encourage the other participants to pull out all the stops to rectify this situation which, to be frank, is totally unacceptable. ;)

Under normal circumstances,  I would of course fix this problem myself but I am currently "hitting below par" this spring having only managed to get out for one 24 hour trip that resulted in the "capture" of only one thing..........Lyme Disease!

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

    Regards,

    Iain

    Very generous of you, Dean.

Whatever I win (because I *will* win something!) will go to the first top-ranking non-BoD member who didn't get any prize.

You must be confused. Surely this means you could end up in the unfortunate position of having to give ME a prize???:D

I have a completely different question relating to "Member Search".  It's a problem that has existed "forever", and very possibly, there is no good solution.

When someone creates their personal profile, the "location" field -- which is essential for State Chairs, so we can identify people in our respective areas -- is (1) optional, and can be left blank, and also "free-form", in that there's no 'standard' way to list a state name.  Here in Georgia, some members, especially in Atlanta, don't even show the state at all.  Others choose to spell the state completely - "Georgia" - while others abbreviate it - "GA".

That wouldn't be too bad -- I can find 95% of our members by searching for either "Atlanta" or for the state (Georgia" or "GA") -- except for the fact that a search for "GA" also matches everyone in Michigan who spells out their state name -- "MichiGAn" is a match for "ga".  I seem to remember having had some success restricting the search by setting the parameters to ", ga" (comma-space-ga) -- but because of the free-form format, not everyone uses a comma in the location field.

That means that when searching for GA members, I'm forced to open and examine every match, one at a time, just to weed out the guys from Michigan -- and there are a bunch of them (which is great -- except when I'm doing a search for GA members).

Any suggestions to help make my life easier?  Thanks.

    HaHa

That was going to be my very next question. It's even more fun if you use "MA" which also yields Maryland, Alabama, Maine, Oklahoma. It seems that this would be easily rectified (at least for new Members) by using one of those clickable pull-down lists that contains the complete state names and making this a compulsory part of the sign-up process?

  4. I received an E-mail from a CAG Member asking for info regarding out-of-date contact details for one of our MA members. However, I have been unable to find the mechanism to do a "Member" search. Did this go AWOL during the upgrade or am I just not looking in the right place?

Any info would be very welcome.

  5. sounds like the SOUTH ZONE with less then half the anglers is going to take it this year :icon_smoking:

    Are you sure?

I suspect Shawn Rafter will leave the rest of us in the dust. ;)

In fact, if I didn't have to work tomorrow I'd be seriously considering taking a long drive North just so he has some competition.

  6. And I thought the English superiority was a thing of the past... Which makes Dean an old wise dude and Iain a modernist, I guess? :glare:

I think you may have your UK youth-culture time-frames out of whack. My uncle born in 1946 actually was a Mod in the mid 60s. I on the other hand was still watching Andy Pandy and Bill & Ben at that time. :)

  7. Still two weeks to go so plenty of time left......AND......Jerome is still leading. My goal all along was to beat 146lbs as I achieved this twice previously in TOKS contests. Not sure if I'll get there but the beauty of the Big 4 is that it only takes one or two big fish to change things

    C'mon Dean!

If you don't sort this out soon.........I may have to go out and try to beat our esteemed Treasurer all on my own. This despite it being dangerously close to the start of my usual hibernation period!

  8. Hm, somebody caught two really nice fish... We need more people to register to not let this individual win too easily... :glare:

    Jerome

It looks like Dean might be about to cook your goose. Given your status as a retired person I suspect you are pretty much obliged to get out there this weekend and try to cut him off at the pass! :)

Glad to see you remembered to put the scale in the pics this time!

Incidentally, I'm not sure how it works if a fish is caught with someone else's bait. I mean if 50% of the "methodpackc" was Lorne's shouldn't each of you claim a 16-pounder?

Am hitting the road in 5 minutes and will be fishing by this afternoon. I suggest you catch a few more fish before I get back next Sunday if you plan to stay ahead! :titanic:

....but two smaller samples late in the day were enough to finally wrest the trophy away from CT. :thewave:

Many thanks to Iain & Steve for the organization and prebaiting and to everyone else who turned out on the day.

Looking forward to next year already.
