  1. Followed by 30lbs 12oz..........

    Other side........

    post-439-1122559529_thumb.jpg

If you think this one looks like an old warrior you'd be right. This fish was originally stocked in the mid-50s (into another gravel pit that was later emptied) making it several years older than me!

I also lost another 30+ fish at the net in between catching these two. My parts were obvously golden that day. :D

    Iain.

  2. To all the spectators out there, please note that Vinny has retired his ancient red hat. He now wears a camo hat. :D Great fish guys.

I'm glad I wasn't there though. It was TOO wet today.  :D

Wow. How will we recognise him now? Is he hiding from the law or the fertiliser guy? Nice fishes tho!

    :D

    Iain.

  3. Tommy, the avatar is of an old german electronic music group called "Kraftwerk". They are pretty much credited as forerunners of techno music. also, its pretty funny ftuff to listen to!

Yes, a great early electronic band. Check out their albums "Trans Europe Express" and "The Man Machine" for the full skinny.

BTW Tommy. The electronic samples that are the basis of Afrika Bambaata's electro classic "Planet Rock" are from the title track of TEE

  4. Hi Domm

Glad you got your rod back this time! :D

Odd that the rod flew with the baitrunner on? Maybe line caught round a guide when the fish ran?

However, this does seem to be a common experience (or near miss) among the MA fence/wall-fishing crew. My guess is that the rod tips up when you get a fast run then slides over. If you think about it the angle between the running fish and the end of a propped-up rod (that is also well above water level) is totally different than the one you normally have when bank fishing. Under those circumstances the line only has to get trapped for a split second for the rod to tip over into the drink. I think once the tip is down and the butt is up (Ooer! sounds a bit Cap'n Bob that ! :D ) the chances of saving the rod are slim.

A piece of strong cord tied to the rod butt and attached to the wall/railing or other immovable object could save a lot of $$$.......though it would have to be long enough to allow movement along the bank a bit while playing the fish. :D

Slightly more sophisticated would be to attach a Fox Rod-Lok to the fence/wall on a short length of cord. This would restrain the rod butt and stop the tip-up happening.

Or you could emulate Scott and hold the rod......

........If you don't mind being mistaken for a large (or small) mouthed ass bangler. :D

  5. You sure someone didnt cut it off and throw it back, thinking it would die?

Carp can be tough fish!  I wonder??

    Hi Fishermom

I was fishing with Vinny when this fish was caught and took the photo.

Actually the fish fought like a good 'un and seemed thoroughly healthy despite part of it gill cover being missing. No evidence of the gills themselves being defective (note their bright red colour). Similarly, the edge of the gill cover where the missing piece should be was not scarred. I suspect it is the result of a defect in early development rather than caused by injury.

    Iain.

p.s. Neil. If a nuclear plant is responsible then Vinny could be in trouble. The swim is about 100 yards from his house. :D

  6. But for Rainbow I´d make an exception, but only if someone asked me to join him in a trip to this lake.

    Wim

You'll be joining a long wait-in-line..........including quite a few who have formerly expressed strong opinions not that dissimilar to those expressed by Scott. :D

Incidentally, would I be correct in thinking that the big "rainbow" fish were acquired during the vidange of another well-known water in SW France quite a few years ago?

    Iain.

  7. P.S. Don't ask me about my PB because it is quite embarrassing considering that i've been fishing for more than 15 years. :D

    Welcome Krys

Despite appearances and leg-pulling (see my by-line below) most people on this forum aren't that macho about PB's. As long as it pulled your string and you enjoyed catching it then the actual pounds and ounces are of no consequence. Anyway, I'm sure that you'll get plenty of great advice about catching more (and bigger) fish from the good people of CAG. :D

    Tight lines!

    Iain.

  8. More Hooters Girls????

    Top idea Brian :D

By my reckoning based on ATC2005 that strategy would stop the Osmonds, Louis & Donnie and the whole of Indiana from catching any fish next year.

.......On second thoughts didn't Jerome also succumb to photographic temptation?? Duh!! :D

    Iain.

  9. Ian, again, icing on the cake, you put a young man to shame with your sipping skills.

    OK Donnie

I'll cut you a deal for March 2006. I'll drink less. You let me catch the 60lb Buff! :D

    Looking forward to it already.

    Iain.

p.s. FishGuys in Mass 2005?? I'm sure I speak for all the Mass(carp)holes in saying it would be great to have you here on tour......and Scott has all the hotspots down.

  10. And I need to teach my partner to not go drink with the brits late in the night before the event... He wasn't fully functional in the morning of the first day...  :D  :D Excuses, excuses...  :D

    Mmm

Consulting my carp almanac I see...

    25 March 2005. ATC day 1.

    0755. Run, Jerome. Common 17lbs 2oz.

1500. Run, IAM. Good fish lost in snag.

    1625. Run, IAM. Common 13lbs 12oz.

    1745. Run, IAM. Common 12lbs 2oz.

    1830. Run, IAM. Mirror 27lbs 12oz.

So I suppose I was a tad tardy out of the blocks. :D

However, dear partner, methinks perchance you should indulge more next year! :D

    Iain.

  11. Ian, I've seen about 4 mirrors between 12 & 36lbs.

The 25 + Ghosty looking mirror has not been caught by any one else except me " I think"

p.s Did you used to fish with Todd Carlander?

    Richard

Thanks for info Scott, Enriquo & Richard

CunFan. No, I don't think I ever met Todd. Where's he from?

    Iain.

  12. I was lucky enough to catch a well-known 27.12 mirror during the ATC (pictured elsewhere). :D

I presume there are some other mirrors in Town? If so, does anyone have any info about captures and sizes or even pictures to post?

    Thanks.

    Iain.

  13. So we were back at work on day 5 in another spot... Couldn't get a thing moving in our swim...

Apart from the 21.10 I had 20 minutes after casting in you little French deceiver you!! :D

    Iain.

p.s. You should have asked me about the catfish. I may have only caught a few channels but I'm an expert on poisson chat. Come to think about it, there's something truly perverse about a French "carpiste" who has never caught a PC. :D

  14. Good Show Iain & Jerome!!  I'm glad the fish finally decided to cooperate with you.  Hopefully they will cooperate with me a little better next year :D

    I'm sure they will Paul.

It was great meeting you.....and thank your Mom for the Tequila. I found a good home for it and of course it had nothing to do with me still being comatose in bed five minutes before the Peg Draw on day 1! :D

    See you next year.

    Iain.

  15. Great Fish Chris!

Enjoyed shooting the shine with you after the corn boil.......and yes I did have a sore head for the first day of the contest. I was doing fine until about 0215 then my head started to go. I think it was Keith's fault! :D

See you same time next yr.

    Iain.
