What if someone or several someones use my exact estimate which, as you and I alone know is not an estimate. Will it be the first to post?
Phone, I dunno. Maybe ask each of 'em to post a nude photo holding their slide rules? That should flush out the plagiarists.

Hi Folks
Attached photo is of my new PB mirror caught from the River Saone near Macon, France on 24th September (the same day as Jerome caught his new PB in Chicago). To celebrate the capture I'm offering a nearly-new (used 3 times) Delkim bite alarm as a prize to the CAG member who gets closest to estimating the correct weight of the fish.
Rules are:
1. Competition open to all CAG members.
2. Weight estimates in pounds and ounces.
3. One entry per member.
4. Entries to be submitted before 1159 EDT on November 2 2004 (election day).
5. All entrants should also estimate the weight of the "tie-break" common (see Tie-Break Common post below), caught by my friend Roy during the same trip, just in case two or more entrants get equally close to the correct weight of the mirror.
The Delkim is the MkII model with yellow LED, adjustable sensitivity, tone and volume controls and is in mint condition.

Could be that mostly commons were stocked in the US. However, in the UK it is not unusual to find waters that were stocked wholly or predominantly with mirrors/leathers to, over several decades, gradually get taken over by commons. I've heard this described (by carp anglers) as "genetic reversion" which usually refers to a mutant form switching back to the original. I know zip about carp genetics but I'm guessing that mirror/leather scaling is a mutant form that was selectively bred 'cause fewer scales made them easier to prepare for the table. However, as soon as you put them in a lake or river then breeding becomes anything but selective. Anyone who has seen carp spawning en masse on a well-stocked water will know that there is a LOT of mixing of the carp gene pool every spring.......
Maybe someone out there can enlighten us on the genetics of carp scaling patterns?

Actually, my only carp this year have been in MA (April, with Garry) and France (May). My three UK carp trips so far I've been in non-stop "big-snotty" heaven.

Nice pics. Seen the same at docks on Lake Powell in Az/Ut.
For a totally surreal experience try dipping a finger or toe in the water where these large groups of hungry hand-fed carp congregate.
....and for anyone tempted to propose any obvious, if obscene, extrapolations I can only say that you wouldn't if you'd tried the above first!

Hey you guys!
Are you sure about this mirror from Luc's water being a world record?? Certainly the Romanian mirror was claimed as larger and I think one or more 70+ mirrors may have came out of the "Orient" during the 90s....in addition to bulldozer.
Could be wrong, but a Dutch fella who lives in France and contributes to this forum on a fairly regular basis would certainly know.
