I love using pellets in cold water. You'll have to watch or on the PVA in cold water as it will take longer to melt the colder it gets. Location plays a big part in cold water. If you really know the lake you'll be able to sort out the carps seasonal patterns which will increase your catch's.

Someone just started a thread about baiting method during the winter. Might touch on oil/alcohol/water based flavors/attractants.

It's a different style of tournament. Pays out the top 20 over the two days. No pegs, just pick a spot. It's fun though and I've never even fished it just a steward.

Planning early this year. Don't know yet if I will be able to make it. Depends on how the next couple weeks go.

I dunno about that! lol They outsmart me more times than I care to admit. I was glad I was able to get most of it on film.
That's the crazy thing I think. Sometimes they evade everything you can do to catch them. Other times you could hand feed them. The nature of the beast is confusing lol

Maybe they're not as smart as we think they are lol great capture and awesome footage

Paylake style is bait caster reels and 6-9 foot rods. Normally a lot cheaper but they don't normally cast further than 50 yards or so.
If I was going to buy everything as a beginner right now I would go with diawa mad dragon rods ($60 each) or the sonic black carp ($120 each) and either diawa bait runners ($60-$90)or shimano bait runners. For some end tackle, Wacker baits sells a "starter kit" for $25 that has some weights, hooks, how to tie hair rigs, etc.. using bank sticks if you fish in areas with ground that you can put them in will be cheaper than buying a pod but a pod will let you fish on any ground type. You shouldn't need alarms unless you plan on sleeping or being away from your rods. Most the time I keep mine off until night time. Oh mask sure you have a comfy chair to sit on to lol

Knot wars is a great app!

Are you looking for "euro" or paylake style and what kind of budget are you working with? You probably own everything you need to get started already.

If I lived that close I would be there every other weekend. Lady bird lake, Emma long, decker lake. I've broken my pb every time I've traveled there to fish. Gone twice traveling from northern Illinois.

There's quite o few carpers in Texas but I don't know of any that far south. Austin area has a lot. Look up Austin carp anglers. They have a website that might be able to help you.

Please help I can't afford carp gear?

What gear do you have now? Salmon rods and reels should be fine for carp. I've seen carp caught on mickey mouse poles... Strong line (12-15lb test), strong hooks, a couple 1-3 ounce sinkers (egg or no roll), and a decent net that is not made from the knotted nylon (fine mesh or rubberized) and you have all the gear you need. Ask of the specialized 12ft rods, pods and alarms are not needed to catch them. They are designed for long casting and long sessions that you'll be sleeping near your rods. No need to buy into the sport for thousands of dollars when you can use what you have and then adjust what you need by your style of fishing. The main thing you gotta do is get lines in the water, where the fish are, and with bait they want to eat! Feel free to pm me if you have any questions.
