  1. I would like to extend a hardy THANK YOU!!! to Willem. Without his patient help and forebarence in assisting me to first re-establish my account on the website and walking me through the Big 4 registration process.

Those of you who remember me will probably remember my INternet ILiteracy, and wordy opinionated posts.

Well thanks to Willem I'M BACK. THANK YOU AGAIIN WILLEM, TIGHT LINES. JB

  2. I downloaded and printed the big 4 rules on the 29th. It included a green big 4 label. I'm assuming the downloaded label is the one used for the tournament. Is this correct? I saw how in the past the right label could only be downloaded after the big 4 started to stop people from entering fish caught before the starting date.

  3. Started my program for Lake Michigan Carp by chuming spots I had encountoured carp during my 45 years of trout fishing. (finally have time to do it).

In honor of Prez Andrew Sprinkle's 33rd Birthday I caught a 34 inch 32# 8oz carp. A fatty. Close as I could get to 33, Andy. Hope you had a great one.

The really BIG NEWS IS I and an Eagle Scout buddy hit the spot for Coho on Saturday and repeatedly saw several fish more than 2 times the size of this one.

HUUUUUGE GOLDEN, REALLY GOLDEN FISH THAT WOULDN'T FIT IN A WHEEL BARROW. TALES 2 FEET WIDE!!!!! NOT 18 INCHES, 2 FEET.

We had noodle rods with 6 # and 4 # test line and couldn't do anything about these fish. Until I got out today. The biggies had done their thing and gone but plenty of 20/30's around. I've marked the date and intend to be hitting this and other spots as the year passes and years to come. jb

  4. Rachel, Craig and Neil, many thanks for your generosity. Santa Claus does exist, after all! And he must be a carp angler! laugh.gif

Ok, I think that Rachel is onto something here.

First, just a reminder, the TAKC is NOT competitive, there is no ranking, no winner, just kids and mentors having fun catching carp. Everybody is a winner in other words. And I'll do a random draw for the prizes.

So for those of you who just want to give a cash prize, maybe I'll take the list of tackle vendors once they decide to donate to the TAKC event (you didn't think I would fully give up on seeking donations from you lot, do you? wink.gif). And then do yet another random draw, and associate cash donations with one vendor or another. And then ask the individual donor to buy a gift certificate from the corresponding vendor.

Neil and Craig, maybe I'll break your donations down to four certificates then, $50, $50, $100, and $75.

=> And yes, Neil, your $100 gift will be reserved for a mirror catch. Hmmm, this should give ideas to some guys in RI...

Or something like that. Will think more about it, but this seems win/win for everybody...

I hope you liked the update Jerome.

I'll pledge a $25.00 gift certificate for BBA mechancise. to TAKC. jbrown@betterbankanglers.com

  5. I'm sure your new rods are beautiful and you love them. Recently fished the coast of Oregon with the head of the fishing regulations department. He had shrink tubing over the handles of his rods that had a rough outer surface. Provided great non slip grip and protected the handles. Could easily be removed with no damage to the handle. Just a thought. Good luck and tightlines. jb

  6. would love to fish the event, but then I would be homeless :) Will talk with you at the TOC about marshalling

I just had an idea for CAG to honor and support the World Cup in the USA this year and further on. How about a CAG tournament in advance of the Cup with a $25.00 entry fee per person, 2 person teams. This would be run by state chairs or members who sign up to do so. This could be a one day event or longer, your choice per state. The proceeds would be used to sponsor an official Team USA and help off set their costs. $5.00 per entry would go to the CAG for cost associated and the rest to an already registered USA team at the World Cup. Initially this would go to a team with it's members who catch the Highest Weight in this Pre-Tournament event. A good warm up for them and it would create interest and publicity for both the CAG and the World Cup. CAG members and TEAM USA MAY FISH ANY STATE THE CHOOSE!!! Members interested in fishing the Cup can practice against members fishing the Cup and both stand out members and venues would be high lighted on the CAG website and others.

This tournament would help develop Tournament fisherman and woman and could eventually establish a fund to allow USA Teams of our best anglers to enter into WCs in other countries.

Many already established tournament series could easily set one in the series as the WC pre-tourney. Newspapers and websites would pick up on the world class significance and promote it with coverage. Future sights for World Class Tournaments would be established and anglers could fish them year round. Some of these sights would pull in vacationers both USA and other countries. Local DNR's looking to boost their budgets would point to these tourneys as increased tourism with Carp as the target species furthering CAG goals.

Make it the same format as WC point system, etc. 5 two person teams minimum and pre-registration with the CAG would be required.

Your thoughts would be appreciated and perhaps this can be put up for a vote if needed. jb

  7. Jerry Brown here, CAG Sec. looking to do a 24 to 48 hour session on either the Mississipi or 3 Rivers area of Peoria. Looking for safe bank fishing sites for possible overnight sessions. Safety and accessability a concern. I'm a tackle tart but fish heavey and hard.

Going the 8th and 9th of September. Probably have 2 other CAGers with me. Reccomendations on resturaunts etc. are nice. Thanks. jb

    email me at jbrown@betterbankanglers.com

  8. No ideas for next year? Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to have one more centrally located at some point...

There should at least be a pool of four or five places and just rotate from year to year...

    DC sounds great. Yes. jb

  9. Happy B-Day Rob. Soon your balls will hang down like the old man email you sent me. (How did you get a picture of mine anyway)? I drank alot of Guiness in New York with Al but don't remember much. Does your wife know about you and Scott spending 'a moonlit night on the bank'? As promised I WON'T MENTION YOUR EXPERIMENT WITH THE COWS. jb

  10. Yeah, Rick, his wife and all the volunteers kicked butt in the hopitality department. I didn't hear a single complaint, well maybe one which I'll mention soon. Rick was right in pointing out Jim Donlan's input as what I saw was phenominal. We are truly lucky to have people of his quality working in our program.

And the Hoosier Carpers, Whew!!! Over 25 fishing events with major turnouts all over the state just this year, and it isn't over yet. A couple of more good ones to come and I'm hoping to attend. I've not met a group who made me feel more welcome and comfortable without being pushy or opinionated. It's kind of like, you say hey I need this, and 6 people stand up and offer it to you.

Well the one complaint comes to mind. I let the Steward in our section use my scale and he kept going to the other end of our section to weigh fish. Never once came down to ours. I paid 3 great witnesses 20 bucks each to "witness" the 19 # 2oz Carp I caught but it never got weighed. Well it might have helped if one of us actually had a fish in the net.

Great time, Great people, GREAT VENUES, and more to come. Thanks Hoosier Carpers for all you've done for the CAG. Just for the fun of it. jb

  11. Here are the results of the 2007 C.C.C (CAG Carp Classic) held in Indianapolis IN Sept. 8th 2007

I was asked to modify Jim Donlan's post as Brian Graham is from Ohio, not Illinois. Since I couldn't modify it I changed it in this quote. With all the energy he put out on Saturday and no doubt the preceding days, I'm surprised he had the energy to post the results at all. A very giving and dedicated man, glad to have met him and that he is squarely behind and infront of the CAG.

Seems after a great night spent at Hubbards Carp Camp before the CCC there are some state and regional rivalries developing. (There were cat calls shouted across the lake during the night from Ohio, Indiana and Illinois contingencies). Could be the basis for state or regional fishoffs. I just want to be incharge of selecting the Cheerleaders for such events.

  12. Just got up and was going to post a limited version of the CCC results, only to find Jim Donlan already did a fine job.

For me and many I talked to it was the most fun, least hassle CCC ever. A wonderful venue, 75 anglers caught 69 fish, in a beautiful part of the fine City of Indianapolis. The Hoosier Carpers put on the DAWG for CAG. Jim Donlan was everywhere doing everything, Rick Slinker, Kevin Tharp, and Gil Huxley had registration down to perfection. The volunteers were well co-ordinated as might be expected by a crew that ran over 25 events this year. The meeting was held at the famous Brickyard Hotel across from the raceway and was a buffet with table linens and service good enough for a nice wedding. Food was great and we comfortably went through the business of the CAG.

If you didn't come, you missed it.

Off to church, the minutes will be run by the board for approval and posted soonest. jb CAG secretarty.

  13. www.betterbankanglers.com has started a program to permanently fund the growth of CAG Kids fishing memberships and programs.

One portion of this program is for a simple $10.00 fee, on the front page of our website, you recieve over a pound of our Tournament Strength, flavor infused corn bait, sent to you via Priority Mail. Over $5.00 of that 10 bucks gets donated to fund kids fishing membership packets and current and future kids events. (the rest goes toward shipping, BBA is donating the baits and labor) Contact me at jbrown@betterbankanglers.com if you want a flavor not listed and I'll make it custom for you. Kids are our future and will reap the rewards our work today. CAG will be the major recipient of all Better Bank Anglers proceeds for years to come.

Our other program in it's intitial run is to sponsor and help run Children's 8 to 18 State Carp Fishing Championships. Our initial effort is this May 19th at the Wolf Lake Maizo Canal with $500.00 cash and complete tackle set up, trophies and medals, a free lunch, major prizes by many sponsors and every child will get a prize. The $10.00 entry fee goes directly to CAG and the kids get NACA magazines and junior member tackle packs. Watch for pics and stories in upcomong NACAs. BBA is putting several thousand dollars into this start up and intends to increase it to more states each year.

Thanks to you, we move forward. jb

  14. We at www.betterbankanglers.com are constantly developing new baits. Since I live on a fantastic carp river and can test on fish in my back yard, life has become easier. But we insist that our baits work on many waters before selling them to the public. We are looking for bait testers all the time.

Our other interest is kick starting the kids initiative started by Terry Fishlock and Neil Stern. We are interested in funding this program for now and forever. Corporate sponsors contact us for info on this effort.

We have started 2 programs for this purpose.

    Field testers:

We are offering over a pound of specially designed baits available only at our website for $10.00. We donate all (100%) of the cost of the bait to the CAG kids programs. We only deduct the cost of shipping to you at the lowest rate available. And you get the chance to try some very advanced baits before they become available to the public. (Might come in very handy for tournament anglers). Been making baits since 1969. Available at www.betterbankanglers.com.

    Childrens's State Carp Fishing Championships:

Better Bank Anglers is currently organizing the Indiana State Junior Carp Fishing Championships incorporating State, City, Scouting, Tackleshop, Corporate and other sponsors into one unit, concentrating on the future of our sport, CHILDREN.

We are using this as an example and will record the method, (working on TV coverage right now) so other states may get involved, in developing the USA Juniors Championship which will most likely be held on the St. Lawrence in Waddington New York. (Terry Fishlock inspired idea).

Better Bank Anglers has spent thousands on this event and will continue to do so with your help. CAG and Scouting will be the major beneficiary of our efforts as we see these as the most likely to have lasting effect. This is my legacy to fishing and all it has given me over the years. CAG Kids will recieve at least $750.00 from the Indiana event when we fill out the 75 kids slots. Better Bank Anglers and corporate sponsors will cover all of the cost of the the event. (Corporate sponsors have already paid for 30 kids to fish the event and BBA has purchased 25 rods and reels, given to the Cub Scouts, to fish it along with 25 $10.00 rebates which will pay their entrance fee, that goes to CAG), the tax deduction goes to the vendor where the purchase was made. BBA gets the satifaction of a job well done.

We need your assistance to grow this initiative.

    1. Buy and try our and other sponsors products. A full list of sponsors will be listed under the events section when finalized. Sponsors contact me if interested in this rapidly growing event. jbrown@betterbankanglers.com

    2. Get involved in starting a kids program in your state and apply to us for funding and/or info on how to fund and plan your state championship.

    3. Fish, have fun, and remember, your children will be the the new generation of Carp Tournament Pro's and World Champs.

We have the Fish, the Venues and the Will. USA will be the Carp Mecca of the World. (plenty of fish to go around). jbrown@betterbankanglers.com

  15. Those interest in fishing the CCC, or just about any venue should check out Googleearth.com.

In the free version you may view and down load satellite photos of Burnham Harbor, and many other venues that clearly show deeper, (darker water) and a close examination will reveal the depth contours.

Print the photo and you will have a map for any peg you draw.

Used this for a recent family Muskie trip to a lake I had not fished. Had action from over 30 muskie during the dog days of August using the contour photo. ( landed 6 to 22 # but had 2 mid 30's on that spit the hook.)Try it. I've been using fishing maps since the 60's and have been a Buck Perry and NightCrawler secrets fisherman with great success. jb

PS. I'm winning this thing this year. jb

  16. At a recent Michigan CAG Fishin, 0ver 65% of the 103 fish caught in a one day event were caught on Better Bank Anglers TigerNutzy corn. This is corn prepared in the BBA method with our additives as well as fermented Tiger nuts in the mix. While our scopex and other more well known flavors will do fine at most venues it's hard to argue with a success rate like that.

At this year's CCC I will be giving samples of baits specifically developed for the Burnham Harbor venue. If you want to have a jump on the competition a limited supply will be available at Henry's at 31st and Canal, just down the street from the harbor or contact me at www.betterbankanglers.com. jb
