  1. My goal is 4 40s at 160 :)

I got my particles soaking now. Baiting swims on monday. Cant wait to test out my dual jet burner with a huge pot. My plan is to cook 240lbs worth in 90 minutes.

I've been baiting for a few days. Looking forward to seeing what we pull out this may.

  2. I don't usually get blow backs with puffs. I noticed with the oat balls, boilies, corn on the hair I get a lot of bumps and eventually a run. With the puffs the rod will be still and all of the sudden I get a run with no bumps. I think this is because the puff sits on top of the pack and its the first thing to fly into their mouths. Also the tension on my line, 2" leader, big hook and angle of the hook give me an instant hookup a huge percentage of the time.

  3. Yes, I think the amount of water coming out of a carps mouth on a blowback catches those bulkier baits and pushes the hook out backwards, even if they are bouyant. I don't think you get less blowbacks with bouyant baits, but I do think bouyant baits are much easier for carp to suck up into their mouths. That's why I use orange styrofoam balls inside my oat balls ;) I think the best way to fish those rigs is on a shorter leader and a bolt rig so the hook pricks the lip before they have a chance to blow it out.

  4. When did I say all the extras around the bait make it useless? I understand how the blowback rig works, the angle of the hook gives you a much higher hookup rate compared to a standard hair rig, and if you place the bait farther from the hook you get more hookups and less ejections. I also have messed around with split shots setting the popups different distances off the bottom. I just think all that extra stuff around the hook gives the carp more to blow out sending the hook backwards out of the mouth, more often than a puff rig from what I've seen. If you disagree that's fine.

  5. I was just trying to help explain the difference between popup boilies and puffs for team sorano and others who aren't familiar with puffology. I know puffs are awesome because I have been very successful fishing them next to other baits. That being said I experiment with and catch fish on all kinds of baits and rigs, including boilies. I caught my first 30 on a boilie. I don't feel a need to take sides, I just like to try to explain why puffs work and what the differences are between euro and paylake setups. A lot of people dismiss or dislike paylake rigs without putting in the time to learn how to use them and see the results.

  6. Bait in the hook has probably caught more fish than a hair rig over time. I've caught a lot without a hair. My personal preference is a hair rig because I like Tinkering with it. I've had days where the only thing that would produce was a couple kernels of sweet corn on the hook. Better to be adaptive and open minded than stuck in the same place.

I've caught some of my biggest fish using sweet corn on the hook. If you are not open minded and willing to experiment you are limiting yourself.
