  1. With the cooler nights we've been having the carp bite is starting to pick up. I fished this morning and ended up landing 12 fish, 6 over 20 pounds. I lost the heaviest fish of the day. It took about 100 yards of line out on the first run, I worked it half way back, then it went on another run and bent my hook straight. The fish were caught SPL style with an oat based pack, ON THE PUFF! The bite should only get better as the water cools off. I'm looking forward to seeing what we pull out of the river this fall.

  2. Haha! Brilliant!

but I'd hate to know what he does with items that wash-up on the river that he fishes :lol:

I've actually had some great gear wash up on shore at my home river. Check out this brand new DFR pod (Driftwood Fencepost Rock) that washed up earlier this spring.

  3. Here are some pics from the 2012 Baldwinsville Wild Carp Week. My partner in the tournament was Attila Agh, some of the pics are from pre fishing and some from the tournament. I was lucky enough to hook into the big mirror of the tournament at 24 pounds 11 ounces, which was also a new PB for me. I had a blast hanging out with everyone at the tournament. Thanks to Tom Brooks for putting together Team Pack Bait. I learned a lot from everyone on the team and it was great to see our team do so well in the tournament. The WCC did a great job of hosting too...already looking forward to next year!

  4. WOWWW, You caught the beast on an old school oatmeal ball ??? Did i read that right? If so, that is a slap in the face to all of the high tech/big money spending euro tackle people!!!!(99 percent of us!)

    WTG :toot:

Oat ball, piece of junk Optix rod that Ethan (Elcapitamas) gave me for free because he didn't want it, $70 Daiwa baitrunner, half a pod that Chris Borgersen gave me for free, no alarms, and I'd like to thank Stop & Shop for suplying my bait. I've seen boilies mentioned and it's been my experience that they are the least productive bait in the river system I fish, and we've experimented with everything we can think of.

  5. For fight and bait details read the original post. I'll do a more detailed write up for the mag. The 25lb fish I caught earlier in the day actually fought harder.

Marcus, I'm out fishing right now but I'll try to send that email when I get home tomorrow.

  6. Thanks guys!

Awesome fish and congrats. My only concern is your scale. Is that a rapala/berkley scale in all ur other pics ?

After Pawel's fish I went out and bought a scale that weighs up to 100lbs because the other one only weighs up to 50, and I'm glad I did. Checked both scale with weights to make sure I got it right. No need to be concerned.

  7. One year ago today I landed my first 40lb carp and would never have thought I would top it exactly a year later, but I struck gold today. I landed my first 50lb carp at 53lb 12oz. She took an oats ball around 1:00 in the afternoon, went on a slow run, then sat right in front of me for about 15 minutes before I got her into the net. I knew it was a special fish when I first saw her and couldn't believe the size when I finally got her on the bank. I still can't believe it...dreams do come true!

  8. It's that time of year again. The time of year I spend more time carp fishing than sleeping, eating, working...and this month is off to a slow but good start. I went out at midnight on May first to start the month. I figured I'd try for the first fish award and I hooked up with a heavy fish around 12:40am, but it found a snag and came unbuttoned. I was kind of pissed but it turns out it wouldn't have counted anyway (wtg Frank!) I ended up getting a small 14+ a little more than an hour later and called it quits shortly after that. I didn't fish the next few days because of the rain and work so I headed out this morning on my day off. I started off at a new swim but after 3 hours without a bump I moved to a different spot. Fishing was slow, only 2 fish, but my 2nd fish was a fat 33lb 2oz female. Now that's more like it! I'm looking forward to the rest of the month. Can't wait to go up to Baldwinsville and the St. Laurence to hit some big fish waters with some good friends.
