  1. A huge thank you to Chad for running this years CCC and to all the anglers who battled through such trying conditions!

Congratulations to Wayne Boone and Destine Vaughn for catching the only two carp of the day.

Wayne's fish netted him North American Champion honors as well as Carp King!

Good to Steve and Joan Briggs taking part after their trip to Dale Hollow - hope to see you again next year?

so no more than 48hrs correct so 2 days? or 5 max?  It'll l be all  during competition

    5.     Upload your entries within 48 hours of capture and certainly no more than 5 days during the period of the competition. All uploads must be completed by midday the day after the competition ends. If you have upload problems you must notify us using this email address only: big4@joincag.com

So ideally within 48 hours of capture and not more than 5 days max after capture.

  4. One more rig...

In line gripper style lead (3 - 5oz) with oats / creamed corn or other method packed around it.

A short 3-4" uncoated hooklength (25lb braid works fine) and an in-turned (beaked) #6 or #8 hook. I tie the rig with the hair just long enough to that a 15mm wafter bait is just touching the bend of the hook (no hair aligner needed). With a short hook length there is no need to hide the bait in the method as it is not long enough to tangle around the leader / mainline. This makes it much more effective at hooking fish before the method has broken down. The short hook length also results in the fish being on a short leash to the lead and being hooked in the bottom lip for a very secure hook hold.

The in-turned / beaked hook point helps protect the hook point on rocky or gravel bottoms ;)

  5. This is my one of go to set ups for the CT River when fishing maize (field corn).

    River Rig.jpg

Simple in-line lead sufficient to hold bottom and 6-8" hook length. The Enterprise large pop up imitation corn holds up to THREE pieces of maize (feed corn) quite nicely and if it is too buoyant then add another piece of maize or a small split shot on the hair. In this case I'm using a #6 long shank hook with piece of shrink tube for the hair aligner and another for the line aligner. Works very nicely with method around the lead or regular handfuls of maize.

So to the point that Clay is making. How do they prove they are in fact using a tripod, weigh bar(I use) or weight crook? Should these be included in the photo? I personaly like the system as is and lets have trust that people are honest.....right?

The question that Clay and others raised was apparently a misunderstanding of Rule #9.

This rule is not about how a fish is weighed but specifically about the need for a clear and focused photo image with the Scales and Big 4 Logo positioned in the foreground to help eliminate any questions or doubts about a reported fish weight

Yes we always rely on folk being honest in reporting the weight of the fish.

Why aren't  unhooking mats and tripods required? Tripod gets a much more accurate weight than trying to hold a scale. Unhooking Mats protect the fish.

Tripods, weigh bars & weigh crooks (that screw into a landing net pole) to ensure an accurate scale reading are acceptable.

Holding the scales rather than suspending them, as above, is not acceptable.

If you read rule #10 and the section on suggestions for taking photos it makes it clear the need for proper fish handling, mats etc.

What’s the big deal about where the scale is or on a tripod?  A tripod is the proper way to weigh a fish.  No tripod the weight shouldn’t count period.   Really the whole weighing process should be on video!

The rule update does not stop anyone weighing the fish on a tripod.

I disagree with rule 9. "scales on a tripod in the background behind the angler and fish are not acceptable". Proper fish care is carp mesh net, weigh sling, UNHOOKING MAT, tripod, and good scale. All the aforementioned proper fish care gear should be in the CAG Big 4 rules. I don't see any sense in this new rule.

There is absolutely no issue in weighing the fish on a tripod. The problem is when the scales cannot be clearly seen because they are out of focus or too far away. Having the scales in the foreground or closer to the fish also helps to confirm the size of the fish.
