Jr. Carp Tournament on the St. Lawrence River Attracted Big Carp and Young Anglers from Across the County and the Northeast A Lisbon angler beat out 65 other competitors to win the 18th annual St. Lawrence International Jr. Carp Tournament last weekend, July 29-31, 2021. Paul “PJ” Payne was grand champion with his heaviest (4) carp weighing 80 lb. 11 oz. He also caught the most fish, with his 14 fish weighing a total of 214 lbs. 10 oz. The 66 competitors caught and released, between Ogdensburg and Massena, New York, a combined total of 164 carp, weighing a total of 2,482 lb. This year’s tournament, in its 18th year attracted youth from the Hudson Valley in NY as well as Washington, DC, Connecticut and New Jersey. “It was great to have so many kids out on the banks of the River doing what they love. For some, this was their first time ever fishing the St. Lawrence River, for others, this is an annual, multi-generation tradition” noted Jo Ann Roberts, tournament organizer. Chris Schierkolk, who attended with his son, Gabe, from Washington, DC, commented, "there should be one of these tournaments everywhere in the Country! This year’s event was dedicated to participants or supporters who were lost: Riley Basford, Louie Kiah, Terry Rafter, Donnie Smithers and Carl Bennett. How old do carp get? Well take a look at this iconic photo of my good friend Mike Wilson with a mirror he caught from the legendary Savay back in 1978. I just learned that this fish was not only seen in 2020 and but thought to still be alive today. Perhaps even more remarkable is that it was originally stocked back in 1951 as a 4" long fish by none other than Donald Leney. That puts this fish at an incredible 70 years old! It also highlights why proper fish care is so important and why we must protect Trophy (Specimen) carp here in North America. If you are not already a member simply click the link to join CAG!

Ontario Canada - New Regulations for Common Carp Angling!
Savayman replied to Savayman's topic in Public Announcements
We managed to get the regulations changed in CT back in 2011 to allow 3 rods instead of just 2. It takes some time and effort but worth it! -
Ontario has announced new regulations that will allow anglers to use more than one rod when fishing for common carp. The new rules are shown below: (5) A person who is angling for common carp may use up to three lines in the waters of fisheries management zones 12 to 20, if all of the following conditions are met: (a) the person is using plant-based bait or synthetic corn; (b) if the person is angling from a fishing vessel, all of the lines used by the person are on that vessel with the person; and (c) if the person is not angling from a fishing vessel, each line used by the person is within two metres of another line used by the person. https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/SOR-2007-237/page-4.html?txthl=common+carp#s-32 Congratulations to Len Perdic and everyone involved in bringing these new rules to fruition.
