  1. well i caught one. it was 14 inches long. I didn't have a scale with me. i used a hair rig with corn right out of the can. I saw quite a few rolling at the surface.

    Jim

    Good job - it's a start! smile.gif

  2. I'm dying to get back out..not sure when or where at this point. Flint is still flooded and Saginaw water will still be pretty high...I'm thinking of Milford or my local water I have not fished properly in a couple years..

    Will decide Thursday whats up....

Andy - Saginaw projected to be back down to 14 ft by Saturday plus mid 70's and party cloudy. smile.gif

Not sure yet but I may join Don?

  3. I ended up fishing the swim at the north end of the creek bridge and it turned out to be a bad choice this year. Despite it being Saturday work was going on and it started just after I set up to fish. I had to move my gear twice because they were power washing, then stop fishing and move my car to the boat launch because of where I parked and diversions set up on the road above me. bonk.gif

Still you win some, you lose some! cool.gif

I ended up catching about 7/8 carp and a some of decent cats but the biggest carp I could manage was 17lb. Didn't take many fish pics and nothing worth seeing anyway but for those interested here are a couple of pics of how the swim looks now after the work is completed.

  4. Don, Dave felt sorry for you and secretly pulled his rods so you could win :P

Sounds like an awesome weekend. I wish with all my heart I could have been there!

    Congrats again guys!

I wish......... but him sneaking in for a couple of extra days practice and baiting up his swim didn't hurt his cause. wink.gif

Don won it fair and square and our new State Chair did a great job setting up and running this fishin. Thanks Don - sorry "Champ" ,yourock.gif

  5. The rig is pretty simple heavy rods, braided line, a huge weight and ball of crawlers the size of your fist. Drop to the bottom and hope a sturgeon gets there before everything else. When one hits hold on! I do most of my fishing for them by boat but. There is a place to fish them from shore.

I am sure we could find enough people with boats to get us to were the fish are.

When they are hot a boat can catch 4 to 10 of them a night.Anywhere from babies to 6 ft

    Raisin,

If you are going to be at Saginaw lets have a chat about it.

  6. We should try to get a CAG trip for sturgeon this summer or fall for them on the St. Clair River.I try to make up every year for this fish it is a blast and a great way to spend a evening on the water.

That would be a blast. I think the season is mid July until the end of Nov but have no idea of tactics, success rates etc. It would certainly be big advantage to use tackle matched to the job! biggrin.gif

  7. Well Ryan you have even more of my admiration for landing this beast now! yourock.gif

Believe it or not I hooked one of these babies yesterday while fishing for Steelhead on the Big Manistee river. I don't know what the odds are but we saw three that moved up to a gravel bank where we where sight casting to steelies. One of them actually took my fly and proceeded to come half out of the water to show it's disdain. I had it on and played it (if you can call it that) for about five minutes but it was clearly a loosing battle until the fly pulled out of it's mouth. Guess I was more than a little outmatched in the shallow water with an 8wt rod, 6lb tippet and a size 14 fly. bonk.gif

I was fishing with a guide and a buddy of mine who both estimated it at about 7ft long. Awesome fish and experience even though I didn't land one like you.
