  1. Hey everyone,

So with the fish-in at Wallace dam less than a week away, I had to see how the fish were biting. I didn’t get up there till about 10:30am because I was very tired from yesterdays fishing on a boat. (a nice bass fishing outing with my dad). So I dropped by Wal-Mart for supplies and my usual 2 sausage biscuits and hash browns from McDonalds and had only 10 miles left to the tailrace. I got there and there were two other older folks fishing for crappie, they told me they hadn’t caught any. They asked me what I was fishing for……I told em…….they gave me the same remark as always “why ya fishin’ for those”. They left shortly after. I got my lines in the water and some freebies to scatter around my baits. 30 minutes later my drag started to sound slowly. I grabbed it, tightened the drag and fish on! The fish felt giant and i reeled down it and the line went slack. I almost cried. I built my self confidence and got that pole rite out to the same spot. Soon after I got another pull and had this one good. Netted the fish took a picture and got it back in the water. Twenty minutes later I got a nice slow pull-down and reared back and fish number two was on the mat. As I was unhooking that huge 10lber my other pole was getting a fast pull and I ran over and hooked the fish, fought it and it was slightly smaller on compared to the other. Took the picture and put em both back.( I’ve never had to put two fish on my mat!! So I baited back up changed the rigs and got em back out. I was amazed at already catching 3 fish in one outing, and I’m in a fishy trace half asleep/ half awake and my pole gives me that warning tick, as though its getting a nibble. I hop out of my chair and watch guard over my pole, watching every bounce of the pole. The fish takes it and runs, I hook it and the fight was on. This fish was cool in that it had a red eye. I called it a demon fish. He fought hard. Maybe he thought I was Tim (cooldad)!!! . I got the pole back out and the bites started being a lot rarer, but I did manage one more. He had a big chunk missing out of his dorsal fin. So there it is the best carp fishing trip of my life. Five carp in one day to me is amazing. The fishing at the fish-in is going to be top notch. Thanks for your time! -Joe

Weights: the biggest was 11 pounds; the smallest was 5 pounds. The others were in between.

  2. Well folks I finally caught a Goldfish. The day started with pouring down rain and thunderstorms and a very long day of school. The rain as I could see it had passed around 9am and the sun was the only thing in the sky. Where should I be about that time……..the lake, where was I………in accounting on bigcarptackle.com looking at all the things I may be able to buy later this year with my babysitting money. School finally came to a close and I was at home eating a snack and wondering what I should do with my day. I was first greeted by many texts from all the young ladies who wanted me to come spend the day with them, but as I looked outside it looked like a very(as cool dad would say it) carptimonious day. Which did I pick?…………………sorry ladies but there fish to be caught. Some of you may think I’m crazy but I have my whole life to find a women, let alone a girl that loves to fish. So I packed up my ultra light gear and tackle bag and headed to the lake. I had to pack light because I don’t want people to see a big heap of fishing gear and come try for themselves to catch some fish in these lakes. I want to be the only one who knows about the fish in here. I arrived at my destination rite at sundown. All I have caught at this certain lake is my one and only grass carp which I think weighed in around 5lbs. I set out two poles spooled with 4pound test trilene and an 8pound fluorocarbon leader. I threw some corn on a certain corner and put my baits rite in the middle of it. Today I was using canned corn boiled in water/honey/vanilla extract. (THANKS TIM (COOLDAD)) I also added a little corn imitation that floats the bait at my selected height. Five minutes go by and my loose drag starts to tick! I pull up slowly on the fish and I’m hooked up! I fight the fish lightly and 30 seconds go by and I reach for the tripod for the camera and fish comes loose. At that point I didn’t care because I had no intentions of getting a bite that quick. Lines back out and more freebies. An hour passes and one more run but the fish did not commit. So at this point I’m just trying to relax. Out of the corner of my eye I see a grass carp come up and pull a piece of bread crust I put on the surface down. I hurry up and tie a unwighted hook on and put it about 4 feet in front of his mouth he turns on it and chases, when a bigger fish swings in front of him and steals it. I hook up and fight the fish for 15 minutes and two attempts at grabbing him later and he’s on the mat. I’m soo excited to see that what I have pulled out of the lake is a 5.6lb goldfish. I put him back in and repeat the process only this time I pulled in an 8.2lb grass carp. I am soo excited about my catch and thank everyone for all the great things I have learned on here. Thanks for taking the time as well to read this story. Good luck my friends.

    Hook em up, Joe

ps: sorry for the bad photo quality, i left my upload cord in north carolina, but they serve the fish justice.

  3. It was a wonderful day to be out yesterday. There were many stories in stock as well to keep us going through the day. I was also happy because for once i had a good idea that the guys took interest in. I cant wait for the next 2 or 3 weeks to pass so we can really start catching fish. Hook em up, Joe

  4. Hey Everyone,

My trip to North Carolina has not yet yielded any fish, but has showed me many good places to fish if I return to the area later on this year. I’ve also been working on my “Packbaiting” skills. So when the weather starts to get warmer those fish need to watch out. I have one more spot that I have pre-baited that I’ll be fishing tomorrow so hopefully ill have some luck so that ill have some fish to show from the trip. Thanks for your time and good fishing my friends.

  5. I do have one minor issue. My heart rate goes up and I start hyperventilating every time a look at your picture of the rods perched on the rungs of the gezebo walls. You must really want to buy new rods and reels badly ! :)

Well zoomie, i have those rods modified with super light drag settings since they are my grass carp rods. My main carpin rods are packed and ready for the trip. But thanks for the input everyone. Next week im gonna go to wallace damn once i get back and hopefully up my odds of catching my first mirror!!

    Thanks,

    Joe

  6. Well everyone today i school was called off for most of Georgia so i decided to brave the elements and head out for a day of carp fishing close to home. I was able to get to the lake before the snow arrived, and when it got here it was a blizzard. People were going crazy around here cause snow hardly ever graces our area. Well i had one bite all day and was not able to connect so I guess I’ll have to wait till i get to North Carolina tomorrow.

    Thanks Everyone,

    Joe

ALSO be sure to watch the new WKORN episode. :)
