  1. I hit the river here yesterday morning at 6 AM & when I got one of my lines in I quickly noticed the line moving slowly when it shouldn't have. There is very little current there & with a 3 oz weight The line should have stayed put. I picked up the line & found snot weed had built up on it about the size of a basket ball. I had a hard time just getting it back in. JiggerJim was suppose to fish with me so I called him & told him we better hit one of the lakes. I got set up on the lake A 7 & Jim showed up at 8. There were carp surfacing all over the area. But they were not interested in our offering. Not until 1 PM did I get a hit. The temp was up in the 80's & after the first hit the rest of the day was good. Jim was sick with a heavy chest cold & didn't get a hit & I don't think he wanted any. I think I ended up with 14 fish on the bank that were between 12 & 17 lbs. The last one of the day surprised me because he weighed in @ 26 lbs & is the biggest on I have ever caught from that lake. He ended up getting into my other line & when I finally landed him I had a tangle mess to straighten out & it was 7 PM so I decided I had enough fun for one day. Some pics.

  2. I fished there when I was with the 101'st Airborne at Ft. Campbell from 58 to 61 & you are right, there are some monsters there. At that time I didn't have any interest in the carp but saw some monsters along the shore line. Also, Kentucky Lake, which I think now is called Barclay Lake is probably holding world record carp. I saw some there that I can't even imagine landing!

  3. Got set up at 7.30 yesterday morning & temps were right at the freezing mark. The wind was blowing pretty good & I saw no surface action & got no hits. At 1.15 I saw a carp jump & 5 minutes later I had a screamer. The rest of the day was good & I landed a total of 7 fish. The wind also calmed down & I think that helped the bite. Had a pair of Osprey feeding at the lake all day & also a pair of bald eagles. The Osprey would dive bomb the eagles at times defending their feeding grounds. The eagles never gave me a good oportunity for a pic but I got a pic of one of the Osprey picking up what looked to be a trout of decent size. Heaviest carp was 17 lbs. Some pics.

  4. Was set up at 7 AM yesterday & didn't get hit 'till 11 AM & that was only a 5 pounder. After that nothing 'till I grabbed a sandwitch at 3. Always happens when I go to eat! Action was decent the rest of the day 'till I quit at 7.30. I ended up with 9 on the bank & the biggest was 31 in & 16 lbs. The next biggest was 8 lbs & all the rest were 5 or 6 pounders. Great weather for march in NE Pa. & I enjoyed the day.

  5. Interesting style, not usual to see baitcasters on the European style rods. Although the long cast contests use a type of baitcaster:

...and I suppose there is no issue with line twist.

Interesting video! Thanks for posting that. I use mono line & line twist is non-existant with the baitcasters. I had to change my line very often with the spinning gear & now I get a lot more life out of my lines. I am not a fan of braided line.

I can get my rig out as far as anybody that is using spinning gear.

  6. Got my lines in yesterday at 7:30 & they sat idle 'till 11:30. I was a little bored so I was down the shore line a ways & picked up a small painted turtle to look at it when I heard the delks start singin. When I got back to my rods both of them were going. Chinese fire drill! I grabbed the first rod & it had the biggest carp on & the other line kept going out sporadically. I landed the first one & then got the other one which was small. Around 11 o'clock I figured it was going to be another skunkin & though the water might have been too cold yet. I was really surprised to hear the Delks. The rest of the day was good & I landed 11 fish with the biggest being 20.5 lbs. Over where the crick comes in the carp started jumpin constantly about the same time I got action. It started raining a little after 3 so I quit.

There was an immature eagle that came in with something in its talons & proceed to eat it on some rocks down the shore from me. Huge bird & at first I thought it might have been a Golden. I had a good day!

  7. Very Nice! Glad the gold was with ya!

I fished for the first time this year from 9 AM 'till dark & got skunked. The temp here was 22 degrees in the morning & one of the coves at the lake still had some ice on it that melted before the end of the day. I guess the water here is still to cold yet.
