  1. IMHO, the handle has to be very strong and the spreader has to be metal. Any brand of spreader will do it if it's made out of metal. I use a very, very tough handle, the Gardner Extending Landing Net Handle : http://wackerbaits.com/sf/contents/en-us/d201.html , a cheap NGT net and a metal spreader. Works like a dream

I use the same handle, spreader block & net & have had no problems. The handle will extend out to 9 ft which has come in handy many times.

If you lift the fish by grabbing the net & not putting pressure on the spreader or the handle, most nets will last a long time.

  2. I fished a place yesterday we call the Pipes. I have had good luck there in the past but yesterday the carp would not co-operate. The temps were in the high 20's when I left the house & I think, maybe, the cold night might have turned them off. We have just been through the full moon stage & a 3/4 moon greeted me when I arrived.

Temps warmed quickly when the sun got high & I had high hopes.

I stayed 'till dark hoping for at least one fish but that didn't happen.

Also, not on fishing, a few years ago we had some barn owls around our place & I went on line & found plans for a barn owl house & got the lumber I needed & built one. That house been empty for yrs but this AM I spotted an owl perched there. Not a barn owl but at least an owl. Don't know if he will stay but time will tell.

I knew the fish were on the small side here & they were. I probably caught around 20 fish & the biggest was 12 lbs 4 oz. At least it was some good action after all the recent shut-outs. RebeCarp joined me for a few hrs but didn't fish. We discussed tactics & plans for next year. An almost full moon showed over the horizon around 4 PM & between 4 & 5 I didn't get any action so I got out of there. My settings on the camera were messed up for my selfies so the picture quality is poor. Also the time stamp is still on daylight savings time, I forgot to change it. I enjoyed the day & hearing the Delks sing their song.

    Some of the pics.

Most of the fish were released right at the water's edge.
