  1. This winter has seemed neverending. The cold weather makes getting motivated to have a session difficult at times. Nevertheless, I have tried my best to get out when I can. Sessions at a trusted power plant lake always produces, including a beautiful mirror. My first of the year. This venue is a little bit of a drive, so the desire to go there is sometimes just not in me. Planning sessions around warmer days(notice the shorts in some pics ?) and hitting up more local spots has been proving successful. I normally would not try these closer venues until spring is in full swing. That might change for next winter. Here are a few of my captures from this year. Achieved my goal, again, of catching carp in all the winter months. Roll on spring!00100lrPORTRAIT_00100_BURST20200223145439187_COVER.jpg

Thanks all! I'll be fishing Hillsdale lake that is mostly rocky bottom. Various state lakes under 500 acres with muddy/weedy bottom, and The Kansas river it's got a sand bottom and moderate current.

Welcome to CAG! Hooray! Another carper in the KC area! Like MOCarper said, there is a great bunch of anglers here in the KC area. We fish all over the area and have found some absolute gems. If you do Facebook, search for our group "Kansas City Carp Anglers" . I would be more than happy to let you come check out my gear and just talk carp anytime! Again, welcome to the addiction! ?

Great fish!!!.......aggghhhhh another one to compete against!...You're killing me Dave!..... ( just kiddin-the more the merrier carpers!)...........:D

Ahh, it's true we can't touch that size of fish(consistently) around here, but you absolutely crush it in terms of numbers. I'm not sure any other carp angler in the country catches as many carp as you.

Today was tough, but you saved it with those two last minute fish!!

  6. Had my most memorable session to date this past Sunday. Broke my long standing PB Common of 28lbs with a brute Common of 31lbs! Add two other 25lb class Commons and a few smaller ones. Also broke my Grass carp PB with a thick 41lb fish! Added one other long lean grassie that measured 41". It was truly a great day for me. Was thankful for being joined by "petew" from the forums and AJ from the Facebook group. It would have been a tough time netting these fish on my own.

I think I will be out at Olathe Lake Sunday morning. Haven't tried it this year and have seen lots of carp breaching when I am out on my kayak.

Wow!  Nice fish, big smile and a happy pappy.  Growing up?  Just wait until they start middle school!  Curious about your card game.  Jacks or better to open?

He starts middle school this fall! Yikes!!

We keep it simple with crazy eights, war, go fish etc. Haha!

  9. We(Me, petew, and AJ)fished the overnight at heritage a couple weeks back. Fished off the dam. Each caught one carp, good size on all of them. I think heritage holds some surprisingly big carp for it's size. We have been doing more evening session during the heat wave are having.

  10. Of course they would like you to come talk at Bass Pro, the bow guys would love to get some info on good carp "fishing" spots. Remember, bow killers love little creeks and streams. Easy pickens. I'm sure you have walked the Bass Pro store many times (as have I), how many carp specific items do they carry? Maybe some "Uncle Joe's carp bait", I'm sure that's good stuff. Now head on over to the archery section and feast your eyes upon the bowfishing section. Big difference, huh? Oh yeah, did you see the rigged out boat specifically for bowfishing sitting right outside the front doors. What's the price tag on that? Now tell me which activity they will seriously support. I wouldn't trust the Sponser of the biggest bowfishing tournament of the year to honestly give any serious support to catch and release carp anglers. When they are hosting the countries biggest catch and release carp tournament, I MIGHT see it differently. JMHO

I will let you do the math.

  11. Had another fun session Friday! Weather was great. Multi species captured, 4 Commons, 1 Grass and a few nice channel cats. Was out of Panko, so mixed up my second favorite bait, Prefessa's Frankenstein carp mix(find the recipe in the carp bait section) and it produced! Lots of fight in all the fish today. Lost a couple to hook pulls.

Hoping to get after them again this afternoon!

    Check out the video!

  12. Very windy and hot day at the lake. I was joined once again with CAG member petew and AJ from the FB group. The commons were smaller but hard fighting. The takes were pretty vicious, I have some butt grip rests in order! Haha! This is the only lake that the carp try and rip the pole into the water!! Although I did forget to set the baitrunner on one take, look for that in the video! Yikes!

Got some nice grass carp today, one topped 36lbs.

    Enjoy the video!
