  1. Last season I used panko/birdseed packbait with the only flavoring being a dip for my hookbait(piece of yellow foam). The dip flavors I used were Banananut/vodka, pineapple/vodka and plain blackstrap molasses. That was it.

I also used boiled corn on the hair, again dipped in those flavors. The corn I spombed out was all unflavored.

  2. Was doing a little organizing of the tackle box and noticed I am very low on hooks for tying hair rigs. I have exclusively used Resistance Tackle RTH3 hooks and have never had problems. With Resistance Tackle now closed(kicking myself for not stocking up), what is a good alternative to the RTH3? Ideally, something from one of the U.S. vendors. Thanks!

  3. If the gear is working stick with it! First upgrades should be a scale friendly net and some sort of mat or cradle, I have a carp cradle and love it, but a cheap yoga mat would be just fine also. After that a set of alarms would be a nice luxury, I use cheap ebay alarms that work fine. Other than that , keep catching!!

  4. +1 on Resistance Tackle. I ordered their carp cradle. https://www.resistancetackle.com/catalog.php?mode=publicviewitemdetail&ref=6727Used it once so far and love it. I also have their weigh sling, it has held up for 3 seasons with no issues.

As for carp nets, good luck. I have had a NGT regular mesh net and a Balzar Metallica coated net, hated them both. I have frankensteined the Metallica net onto the NGT arms for now. Fins still get hung up like crazy even in the Metallica coated net.

  5. Went out fishing again with my oldest son Logan. Early wake up at 5:30am was a little rough. Ha-ha! At the lake and set up by 6:15am. Bait was the usual, unflavored panko/birdseed packbait fished traditional paylake style. Piece of yellow foam dipped in a pineapple glug was the hookbait. Also had some boiled maize in the freezer, so set up an extra rod euro style with maize on the hair rig. Like the temperature the action was hot! One carp hit the paylake setup so hard it backlashed the reel!! Fixed the lash and landed the carp! Crisis averted! Ha-ha! Ended with 8 carp and 5 cats with one carp falling to the hair rigged maize with a screaming one tone run. One of the carp had a very crooked spine, but seemed in good health. Each time I take Logan out he gets better at everything. He picks the fish up for the pics by himself, plays the give and take game with the fish better and even started casting the spinning reel, helping spomb some maize out(side note: why did I not get a spomb earlier!?!? That thing rocks!).

It was another great day out that tops any of my solo sessions. Alright let's get to the good stuff!
