  1. Can anyone tell me how the Sonik rods are. I was taking a look at the Sk4's. Are they good quality or will the blanks soften up over time. im looking into getting a good rod and reel that will last me!

  2. Same here adam... I will be getting Saxon's from here on out. I just hafta wait until i make that much money to blow on fishing stuff haha. I have a good summer job again working with my dad so i will get one sono hopefully. I always wanted Hexalites anyways... might as well get the best of gear if you lov the sport your in... right? It does make sense! Anyyways im currently using one mad dragon.... im in desperate need on a hexalite...

  3. THANK YOU and yes, most cheaper rods will break down and become even soft, 2.50TC rods can quickly become 2.00TC rods with heavy weigh casting.

Robert, sorry I hit a nerve, i'm NOT saying that you have to pay $300 for a rod , pay whatever your budget allows. What I was saying is that if you want a rod that will handle every day abuse casting heavy method balls then buy a high end rod rated for higher Test Curve.

I personally like 13' rods and for heavy work I prefer 3.50TC , now I do have some 13' 3.00 TC's that will out cast most lower and mid range 3.50TC rods, but its due to the higher quality blank in my rods and the super fast action of the blanks. For this then you must pay for such quality and as Iain said, NOTHING under $150 (my opinion is $200) will withstand repeated heavy casting far over their factory ratings. A 2.50TC rod is rated at optimum casting weight of 3 - 3.25 oz.

We weighed a 2 oz. feeder packed with meilie (ground corn) and it weighed around 10 oz. (of course depending on how large of a ball you form around the feeder ). Some wet mixes can weigh even more.

I truthflly have been looking at the new Daiwa Infinity DF's since they came back out with the 13' 3.75TC version , these would be for long range method feeder work of course, but then I got to thinking about it and if I need to reach past 100 yrds. and want to fish method feeders, I will just use my Viper Euro baitboat to run the rigs out..lol.

Each company that you see thats popular (Chub, Daiwa, Shimano, Nash, etc.) all make lower end affordable rods for anglers just starting out of for those not wanting to put out a lot of money for rods, thats why they sell rods like Black Widows and many anglers buy them up. Just as they do with reels, but dont expect the same performance, castability , durability and longivity from a Black Widow compared to an Infinity...same with Daiwa Regal Z's compared to Daiwa Basia's.

This is why I personally own 34 carp rods ranging from 9' 2.25TC Stalkers to 13' 3.50TC 50mm butt rings, to cover ALL methods and techniques of carp fishing, from small fish in ponds to large fish in very big rivers and everything inbetween. Well that and I have bit of a tacklaholic issue , but thats for another thread.

    Good day gents,

Sorry to hear about your rod breaking, If going with the Daiwa Mission X , go with a higher Test Curve and you'll do fine. Those are really nice looking rods and I almost bought a pair to match up with my Daiwa Linear X reels , really like the look and feel of those rods.

Yes i see your pint alex... Dang... ou have 34 rods... want to hand over the needy a nice one... ;) haha just kidding man. But my next rod will deff be a saxon i think! Do oyu htink thats a real good rod? I have heard from many tht they are but just want your opinion.

  4. Hey guys im looking for a new matt, i was looking into getting the chub carp cradle. does anyone have this? Any feedback on the product. Also any other suggestions would be appreciated. I am looking for a matt that had side walls so the fish cant escape/slide off. Thanks

  5. Captain Carpy if you are satisfied with your rods that is all that matter do not worry about all the You have to own a $300 rod. If your catching carp thats all that matters if your black widow fails in Five years you go buy another. if its another black widow so be it. my rods are being questioned and because they are 2.5tc not because of who makes them. Some people think you have to own the most expensive or you own crap not true whatever you can afford and what works for you is the best rod for you.

True Robert... Although im sure there are other rods that are better well so be it.... cant have everything top of the line right now. I am satisfied with my MD just worried now hearing all this bad talk about them. :-/

  6. I have casted mine with up to about 3 ounces.... like i said have not had a problem with it.... yet! Feels goood to me and preforms good. Unless you own one and have a problem with it you cant really say that they are bad rods. I own one and i like mine. I dont have the money to be buying saxons yet. I might get one eventually but for right now im gonna stick with my mad dragon. Maybe mine will break too, i dont know. Only time will tell.

  7. Adam i feel awful because i recommended that rod to you. But i serisoully love mine... No problems at all for me. I love the sleek feeling of my mad dragon aka black widow. Maybe you got a deffected one. If you are going to go for an expensive rod id go with Saxons. Do i think that Mad Dragons are the absolute best out there... No not at all. But for the money they are great rods, atleast for me! It handles my 2 0z weights nicely and i have the 3.00 TC. And it held up mighty fine in my battle with the 38 lb grassie yeseterday.

  8. Wow thats awesome man! Congrats on the first grassy! thats a big guy! I wonder if a bread pack would work for a method/packbait on the bottom in shallow flats. Now your going to be stocking up on bread! Who knows you may only strictly fish for grassies now :icon_smoking:

Thanks Adam... And no way dude i love commons... but i also love grassies. I love fihsing for both! I just love carp fihsing.. in every way. Surface, flyfishing, and hair rigging baits. Its all fun. I have fell in love with carp fishing! As Robert said its addicting watching them surface and take free offerings of bread. And oh Adam yeah you can also catch them the same way you do commons i just wanted to get them on the surface, something different and very exciting.

  9. Thanks guys! And yeah Idaho it was fun... this is a lake i found them int so it makes it even cooler.... I honestly do beleive there is a 5o lber in here... there are some absolute hogs... I know i saw one bigger than the one i caught! I had fun watching them slurp up my bread on the surface.... Great expericene... I love carp fishing!

  10. When i went searching a new venue the other day i was shocked to find a few very nice grass carp. Although i was slightly dissapointed they were not commons i was still somewhat happy because i have never caught a grassie before. I thought this is a good advantage to get my first ever grassie. Not knowing much about how to fish for them i started a thread on here under the beginner section of the forum. A few people on here gave me some great advice and used it to my advantage. I went ou yesterday afternoon and began to throw sum bread on the surface, not much was going on and then all of a sudden here comes a big grasser headed straight for my bread. Slurp, slurp, slurp and ate up all my free offerings. At the time i didnt have my rod rigged up yet so i quickly scrambled to get my rod all rigged up. By the time i got all my gear out he was gone and knowhere to be found. I threw out a little more bread and he came again, this time i was ready i casted out and plopped the bread on the surface with some other free offerings. As my bread hit the surface it sank and the carp slurped up the offeintgs on the surface and left. Disgusted with myself i packed up and headed for home. So today i got up real early and got out to the spot again. I instalntly got all my gear set up and began throing freedies on the surface, after a few hrs of no sign of any of the carp i began to worry. Then as soon as the sun got on the water i saw one crusing around. He milled around and fed on the feebies i offered. I got ready put a nice hunk on and threw it out. As he worked his way down the line of floting bread he got to mine and sucked it up, my heart was pounding like crazy. I waited a few seconds and yanked, and then nothing? As the fish swam away spooked. I stung him and did not hook him, i was very upset. Later on i chummed more until i was out of bread. Then my dad was kind enough to bring me up another few rolls and i was off to chumming again. As soon as i began offering the bread another grassie came up and started feeding. I again threw out my hookbait and he slurped it up... this time i let him just swim with it and islowly lifted the rod and then again feltg nothing, but this time he dint get spooked. After another hour of nothig happening he camvback and this time began feeding heavily. I thrw out a few freebies and casted my hookbait right in the middle. He turned and was swimming straight at me like a submarine, as i waited patiently for him to take my bait my heart was beating like crazy! He raised his head slowly and i saw his lips slowly come out of the water and then the battle began. I had hooked my first grass carp. I fought him for a little and then as i netted him i realize how big he was... i was ecstatic! I careully slipped him in my sack/weightsling and put the scale to work. He ended up tipping the scale at a whopping 38 lbs. I was so proud of myself... I turned my camera on self timer and attempted a photo while keeping him calm. All in all i am very staisifred to gt my first 30 lb carp and first grass carp, what an accomplishment!
