  1. Competitive carp fishing is not for everyone and its certainly not cheap. The CAWC had eight different categories where a team could potentially win a nice chunk of change, and 15% of the teams ended the tournament winning anywhere from a few thousand dollars to over $15,000. The chance to win money is a great motivator to attend the events, but so is the learning experience, fun, and social aspect.

I would also add that tournament carp fishing expenditures are legitimate business expense tax deductions. Even though I didn't win anything, I will be reporting a loss on my 2011 tax returns ;)

Matt's right, tourney fishing isn't for everyone and it isn't cheap either..

For me the the months of planning, research, preperation, the intensity and excitement of the event itself makes pleasure fishing seem really mundane in comparisome.. to the point where I almost have no interest to go and scratch around locally for a few fish once in a while... but that's me, it's how I feel I'm not preaching anything, it's just what gets my juices flowing.

Tax wise, I too, deduct tackle bought through the year, together with everything spent on a trip, it helps take the sting out of it all, it also helps keep my wife in a reasonable state of mind!!!

  2. hello, just over half swims sold, 56 pairs ,world champ. event?,credit crunch?,bad organisation? bad pegging?,your thoughts, regards b.

It was a great event and very well ran, the pegging - a tremendously difficult task - was also well thought out and pretty fair, there's always going to be mix of good, fair, bad pegs ... that's just how it is, it's the way any river or lake is at any given time.

It was very sad to see the USA hosting the event and having the poor attendance that it did. Where was everybody?

More teams show up to b'ville each year .. I don't get it.

Every year a world championship is on in Europe, we either don't represent at all or maybe a team or two will go.

We cannot begin to critisize Europe for a bad turn out at this event, when they represented more than 50% of the teams present.

    Just my thought's....

    Colin.

  3. I didn't know the titty bar with pole dancers would be in the parking lot m8?? :o Should John not make the trip, you can ride with me. :P See ya there

    Tom.

Hope you told your new partner to bring ear plugs Tom, poor chap doesn't know what he's in for does he .. lol

On the titty bar note, I'm looking forward to having breakfast again with the bulldykes in madrid. ; )

  4. Awesome write up John, parts 1 & 2 were entertaining & good easy reading, thanks for sharing. :)

Was great to see you & all again, I too am looking forward to going back to Midway, I'm not going to wait till next year though!

  5. Wow that was the best CAG event I've been to by far (not that the others have been bad ) Tom did an outstanding job putting this together and it was first class from start to finish, together with Tony & Marcy's hospitality and facility I think everybody had a great time, I know I did!

The fishing was a little tough, but hey that's fishing. I fished Friday night, caught some and managed to win 50 bucks. Saturday I caught but the fish were smaller although I did win 4 - 30 minute slots which got me 200 bucks :)

All in all a great time, thank you Tom, Tony & Marcy & Louis, I hope in some form or fashion this becomes a yearly thing at Midway II.
