  1. hey Andy,

I went to Michigan with Pat looking for those illusive mirrors. You should check out those lakes. Lots of residential stuff around them so access is limited and they look to be mega weedy in the summer. You should check out the Kalamazoo river too, has a rep for big fish, there is a dammed up section above Kalamazoo that looks good and we were told be locals it has big fish. There seemed to be waters everywhere in Michigan with huge carp potential, kind of an "option shock" situation. :D

  2. Ken,

Could you pull a small trolly behind your bike?  I would give you encouraging remarks to help.  I weigh less than 100 kg.

    Phone

ps:  Is the fish in the grass a female?  Are these fish already spawning?

hope you are doing OK phone, no problem if you want to come fish. Actually most of this fishing I'm doing would work fine freelining with the "texas whip" hookset. Yes I'd say that fish is a female, can't quite make these fish out most look like they have spawned but every once in a while you spot a barrel shaped female carp waddling around.

  3. bike was my favorite method of transportation to go fishing back in the days

we did not had any money for Motorcycles or cars :D  :D

I can relate to that Miguel, fishing used to be strictly limited to bicycle range. Hey it wasn't bad though, makes it really easy to appreciate even the smallest of things these days. Check out the bag in the pic, was having a big clean out of my place and found this bag, it's actually the same bag I used to go fishing with on my bike 30 years ago :D Anyway it's back in action, a bit tired and rough around the edges but oozing mojo. Thanks everyone else who commented on the pics :D

  4. I called a friend across the pond who does investigations and he has found out through reliable sources that the 81 pounder was originally from, I should not tell you this so keep it well under your hat,  the Merrimack river!! The bloody thing would never have gotten over 25 pounds if it stayed there !! So we should be happy it was transplanted and I too am eagerly awaiting the pictures. A 76 and an 81 in the same pond. looks like the owner is going to have to increase the feeding.

Keith and Scott make a good team. I am amused at your banter. Keep up the good work, you pricks!!!

sorry carpist I have to question your sources, the fish is actually a well documented DC tidal basin monster caught atleast 8 times by Phil GB between the weighs 1lb 6oz and 3lb 3oz :D. Not sure who is heading up the US fish smuggling ring.

Actually feel a bit sorry for the fish, seems to have become part of some kind of freak show :D

any good pics anywhere? the thing is massive

  5. Tim,  bicycles and centerpins,    you changing your name to Chris....  :D  :D

    Great shots  :D

the bike is the only way to go at this place, I have a spare one if you want to give it a try :D . Remember that TV show where Chris Yates and the guy with the flat cap were riding bikes and fishing. The photography was awesome.

I was fishing a few days ago and heard this commotion in the reeds the other side of the pool and these 2 float tube guys appeared, they had hiked in there with the tubes strapped on their backs. They were blown away when they saw me get one, they described my cane rod as a "noodle rod" and asked me if all "australians" fish this way :D

Miguel you would love this place, but you would never make it there, you have way to much gear to carry :D

  6. been using the cane rod and centrepin mainly stalking. If I need a break or the fishing is slow, I fish a few likely looking margin spots for about a 1/2hr each. Im using mainly 3/8oz leads and little size 8 tiemcos with a grain of corn or a small yellow pineapple popup. Somedays it's 1 or 2 fish, best outing so far was about 20 :D

  7. here's a nice shot of a 20 being released. Sometimes it just doesn't seem right to bring the fish onto the bank, so I like to unhook them in the net and release them. What I've been doing is just leaving the fish in the net and reaching for the camera, then taking a snap :D

  8. well I've been out my my bicycle fishing some remote spots. Caught some nice ones and just downloaded some pics and wow, I'm no pro with the camera but some of them look great. Here's a nice 20 something, it's been a wet spring over here so there are wild flowers all over the place :D

  9. ACS is first rate at fulfillment. The lovely trophy is shown below, the cash is spent with nothing to show for it and the entry into the World Cup is looking more valuable every day. I am still not a fan of competitive fishing but one has to admire the job Sean, Wayne and David are doing.

I'm sort of on the fence with the ACS on the one hand Dave did go out of his way to try and get the prize money for Al and myself, but then they are now working with the same people who withheld the prize money on staging the current WCC?. I think Brian summed things up pretty well as usual.

Anyway guess I'll wait and see, if the prize money shows up everyone will be happy, if not then I guess it's destined to be one of those unpleasant episodes where no one ends up a winner.

To me this a very good example of why it's good for the CAG to stay out of the commercial side of things. I'm a raving capitalist myself but fishing is a good way to get away from it and the CAG basically seems to support those attitudes and values in carp fishing. In retrospect I probably should never had gone to the WCC, it's all water under the bridge these days, but the WCC coming to town presents an outside chance of getting that prize money.

Anyway, you might be in with a good chance of the million dollars Paul, fishing with tal!!!!, although he does seem to have lost his mojo, who knows maybe be back.

    :D

  10. OK flyrod carpers,

I spend a fair bit of time stalking carp with a centrepin and cane rod, if was to try the same but with a fly rod setup, what should I buy. What length of rod and weight, also anything specific on reels? how about fly line?

My casting abilities will be equivalent to where I'm at with the centrepin, basically pathetic with most of my time spent retrieving line from trees. I'll be mainly fishing at very close range but the fish get large, a nice fish is over 20 with a chance of something bigger,

    anyway thanks in advance

    :D

  11. Would the same people that ripped you off be fishing in this years WCC??Not good.  Not good.

yes Mr Big think most of the people in the loop will be there at this year's WCC. The ICFA people are there, not sure about Raduta but I heard is son is fishing.

Anyway just an update, no reponse yet, I'm taking brian's advice and not holding my breath. Got a offer of help from the CAG leadership, nothing from the ACS yet.

  12. would love to see a fish that big, I wonder how long they are?. Never seen a fish over 42inches, do these huge fish get longer or is it all body width and gutt?

I've been spending alot of time fishing the delta and this time of year it's possible to get right into the middle of thousands of fish with the boat. One thing I've learnt when trying to target the big ones is it all seems to be about the width of the body when you look at the fish in the water. It doesn't matter how long a fish is, if it doen't look like a beer barrel with fins, it's not going to be over 40.

For a fish to be 80 lbs it must be petty long and have the beer barrel thing going on? anyone got any measurements?

  13. OK not sure how this will playout but carrying on with the recent theme of members attempting to resolve bad stuff that has happened to them, items stolen/not paid for, by posting on the board, I'm going to have an honest attempt to get some unpaid prize money from the previous WCC.

I guess most people know that tal and myself placed 5th in the last WCC, but instead of recieving our approx $8000 prize money, we were given some shimano rods and reels that were a fraction of the value of the published prize money. I guess after numerous complaints and inquiries, non of the prize money has appeared and this is about the best timing I could come up with to make a final attempt to get what I think we are owed.

So I know ICFA ans ACS officials frequent this board and to me the ICFA seem to be the same players who organized the last WCC. So my question is can you see if you can obtain our prize money or atleast the prize money minus the value of the tackle?.

Also can any of the CAG officials lend a hand? apply some pressure?

    :D

  14. here's the "rocks" or "rocky point" swim on a calm evening. Loads of big ones used to be caught here, but the fishing has gone downhill from all the pressure. Still a nice spot for a quiet day and has the added advantage of being able to watch the college hotties in the UT rowing team launching their boats from the opposite bank:cycle:
