i fish this type of river with a 9ft m h rod but i fished it with the smallest of bass poles

if you cast to the slack spot its perfect for any bait you throw there because there is no current so you should find a spot that will hold bottom. also i fish a spot very similar to this here in texas with current moving thru it but a couple of slack water spots. I approached it the old classic way a can of corn throw half of it out in a area (you'll be surprised how good it'll hold bottom) if its flowing that hard throw it a couple feet from the spot you want to fish and itll land there.
good luck

I try to rebait about every hour or so because I'm thinking the small fishes of all types will eat up the contents of the PVA mesh offerings.
cool that's a good plan. good luck on your future adventures

great fish I am surprised Jerome hasn't join in the big 4 especially after you catching a fish. a lot of friendly competition always going on

we did this for spring can you guys post your pics if i catch any i will post mine, anyone looking at the leaderboard knows its hard to see the fish. i am really interested in seeing the 7oz carp that was caught that is cool. i never caught one that size, every time i catch anything under 5lb im amazed by the perfect scale patterns. its really rare for me to catch under 4lb but when i do i take lots of pics they are as awesome as catching a 20+ to me.\
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!

the real thing will always be more effective but when you use fake it'll help you if other fish were robbing your bait or crawdads. they are great to have in your arsenal i have a sweet spot for the buoyant ones. good luck with them
