  1. You guys have a WWD dont you at "Lansing Power Plant" ?I have a little tiny WWD that I fish all Winter....and i'm talking small , only 2-3 anglers maximum or its too cramped.

Wish I had a larger power plant like the pictures Andy posted before......I would fish every weekend, no matter how cold...wait I pretty much do that now..lol.

Coldest for me yet was 2 years ago with Vince's brother Rob (Lurch) and it was -6 degrees.....hey I caught two carp , so it was worth it.

Good luck to you guys if you go....Andy, dont put up the gear bro...just find open or warm water and keep catching man !!!

  2. Mike, first WELCOME BACK...as for locations I would say atleast hold 15 anglers....if it fishes well and everyone likes it , then would be nice to fit 20 anglers ?

Over-night events are great because some may have to drive 2+ hours to get to the event, which is tough to just do a day session for some then turn around and head home. Atleast if the event location had a back up over night area to stay (not really event fish, but would be nice) then they could get sleep for the drive home the next day.

  3. great to see the ball moving so quickly we need someone like this in TEXAS

Thanks, lots of work to do to get things back up to speed here in Ohio.......would love to come down to Texas and fish with you guys some day (its on my bucket list).

Well step up and push to become State Chair once the position comes available and get Texas rolling , I would be happy to help in anyway I can...this goes for all the States.

  4. I agree Vince with East Harbor to kick things off...and end in Oct. at Rayland like we did this year (non CAG affiliated events ).

Andy, you read my mind....I think we need to come up with a place on the Maumee river that will hold a bunch of us(I have a few ideas already) and do a CAG Ohio/Mich. joint fish-in ...a weekend event for sure from Friday to Sunday.

Dave, you and Mike Bold have fished that water more than we have , do you guys have any sections in mind ?

  5. I want to get everyone's ideas/opinions on what the 2013 schedule should be . I will set up a meeting for live in person chat about this sometime in Feb. Looking to hold a CAG Ohio meeting at one of our local Gander Mountain meeting rooms.

Just thought that maybe some that wont be able to come to the meeting can put their ideas here.

  6. Tribal you can transform the Gardner tables in the tables like in the videos with a little work. I have set up my tables this way and can now roll boilies quicker than ever. If I can find some of my pics and/or videos I will try to post them for you.

That would be great , any tips or tricks would be great to make the system more user friendly and quicker.

  7. Actually the boilies were made round to aid in baiting with catapults and throwing sticks accuratly at range. For shorter range they can be squares, doesn't matter.

I dont think squares would do very well out of my throwing sticks..lol.

  8. "infinity's with 2lb tc with 12lb subline"....NICE !!! Yea for Winter I step down to lighter Test Curves in cold water since I rarely fish method feeders or heavy weights . I used to use 2.25 and 2.50TC 12'ers , but the smaller swims I fish in Winter , the short 9' stalkers in 2.25 up to 3.00TC work very well for me.

Give it a go, I bet you will see results very fast. Anytime you start to have hook pulls , check your hook to make sure its super sharp and that the point is not bent , sharpen as needed with a small sharpening stone...if that end is good , retie a few rigs with shorter hooklinks and smaller hooks and scale down the bait in cold water . If its warm water , sometimes going with a bigger hook and longer hooklink is best, specially if using larger hookbaits like 18mm + boilies.

    Good luck.

  9. Maybe, I just think with the water getting colder each day , those fish are just not feeding hard and sometimes they just mouth the bait instead of suck it in all the way to "taste" it...the reason the scream off is because the hook has pricked them and they sensed danger and bolted (the mechanics behind that rig) , problem is the hook did not go in far enough and when it stuck in , there was not enough meat to keep a good hold.

I would certainly try a shorter link and smaller hook. Those smaller fish seem to stay a bit more active as their smaller body weights tend to warm up faster in the mid-day sun than the larger fish . the bigger fish seem to really slow down their movements and feeding and dont warm up and get as active , maybe because with the more weight , the more warmth it takes to really get their body temps up enough to feed more aggressive ? Heck I dont know, just going on personal Winter fishing experience.....going on my 10th year of fishing year round for carp.

  10. My normal WINTER rig is #8 or #10 Korda wide gape x or Longshank X , short hair for only 1-2 kernals of sweetcorn and one fake Enterprise sweetcorn...or one single 10-12mm pop-up (fake or real) , hooklink is either 10/2 or 20/8 Siffix performance braid or 15 lb. Kryston or Korda hooklink material (dacron) in 3-6" in length. I also tend to fish a lighter lead set up in cold temps below 50 degrees , depending on depth , a 1/4 oz. to 1 oz. egg sinker fishing slip rig.

But again , thats my prefered Winter set up. I also switch over to 9' Stalker rods and small baitrunners (Shimano 3500B's) and 8-10 lb. Big Game or Korda Subline.

  11. The problem might not be completely "rig mechanic's"...it could be that if you are fishing in colder water temps the larger fish are not sucking in the bait far enough and the hook is just catching slightly in the lip and once you lift into them , it does not take much for them to tear loose.

While I do use size #6 Korda hooks and longer hooklinks during warmer months , I tend to scale back my rigs in Winter (under 55 degrees) and go down to size #8 and #10..and even have #12.., smaller dia. soft hooklinks , short hairs and small hookbaits (12mm the biggest).

  12. Bob , those videos show some very good ideas for setting up rolling tables. I do like that Shilham table , does anyone know what shops in the UK sell them by chance ?

I now have 2 of the Gardner rolaball baitmaster tables (12mm & 16mm) and plan to set them up like the ones you posted on the other forum real soon. As soon as my pneumatic gun comes in , I plan to start rolling. I bought a brand new turkey fryer with 30 qt. pot that will be used for the boilies...along with a very large basket that fits the pot. I used to use a large deep fryer for in-house use that works very well, but plan to make larger quantity's than I have before. I will probably still use the electric deep fryer for my pop-ups as they will be just for hookbaits and not as large of quantity's as the matching bottom baits.

I also want to try steaming some baits and see how I like that method, but need to do some more research first.

    Scott H

Congrats dude , from outcast to statechair , quite impressive . What does the future hold , presidents maybe?????

NO........State Chair will be my only Official Position in CAG......Once Ohio is back up to speed and my 2 years are up , I hopefully will hand the wheel over to another member that can keep things rolling. I'm only here to do my part for CAG , not to dig up the bones of old dead topics...moving forward, not backward.
