Tues November 20 i was able to go fishing 10 until 5 in Toronto's Harbours.
I have been shut out by carp the last two outings....i went back and stripped off my line and serviced my gear.
I have repeatedly watched my bait spit out or line noticed. the line probably had a lot of twist in it and thus was visible...
i also changed from green to clear mono as the water is crystal clear.
i shortened my leader to 13 inches from 18 inches and added more slip weight.
i arrived at the swim only to be using my pike rod to fish for pike chasing gizzard shad....several pike follows always breaking away at 1.5 feet.
There were rainbow trout too....zipping around.....
Finally the carp arrived to the baited swim...but again they were cautious for an hour.....
the first carp to take the bait i landed....28lbs....well proportioned athlete....had to be careful with the 10lb mono.
when i released this carp the pod was spooked and did not reappear for 3 hours
one small 5 lbs carp hung around and picked up my bait twice ever so gently and drop it right away
i cast out and a trout zoomed in on my bait and hit it but did not take it.
the pod returned and an eager eater picked up my bait...it rose trying to spit it out so i paniced to set a circle hook and failed
lesson don't help the carp spit your circle hook...let em struggle.
another eager eater "a little fatty" caught trying to spit out the bait with no help from me...
this carp was landed at 22lbs.
two decent fighting carp today!
Sunday i found a pod of the largest pound for pound carp pod i have found yet.
the conditions that existed were way different than ussual and i failed repeatedly to get one.
the current was extreme and the carp were swimming into it and eating then falling back when the current was too strong
and they repeated this a hundred times....i just kept getting my bait out of postion....
the sheer sizes of the carps were incredible yet the failure to out smart them humbling as well.
I have invested tons of hours fishing for carp and i am just starting to understand 2 percent of what i could know if i make further efforts.
i realize that carp fishing grows on you like having a dog.
i am gonna be way to busy for another outing anytime soon so i guess these will be the last two for me this year.
looking forward to next year!

Awesome late fall catches!

the lazy boy must have a scent of its own by now....strange you haven't found raccoons nestled in it....they love carp scented stuff.....i suppose we do too...maybe you will find a CAG member like Ken fast asleep in your lazy boy.....
-
everytime i see a pic of one of your carp lounging in your lazyboy i get the fond memory flashbacks of cats and dogs snuggled up on a couch or in front of a warm fire.... its a heartwarming moment

great catch! they love your cooking! You always fine a creative way to stay in tune with their stomachs grumblings.

found a couple hours to fish a favourite Toronto carp swim....found it full of carp...very clear calm water....they could see everything including me...not ideal...noticed that several carp had lamprey marks on them....and then one with a lamprey still attached....it was heart breaking....if i had been able to catch that carp was there anything i could have done to remove the lamprey?

grass carp is listed as asian carp in the resources that were given out at the conference.
i met the head of the us fish and wildlife and he told me about how this arrest all went down....the owner of the business told his driver that he was being investigated for selling asian carp and to dump the load in a ditch asap....but the authorities had already located the truck at a delivery. The truck driver was approached and a sale was done...truck driver was gonna pocket the money....the business owner will be convicted and fined $20 000. next week as it was before the courts this week.

MIDLAND, Mich. — An Arkansas man has been sentenced to jail and fined for selling live Asian carp in Michigan.
David Shane Costner of Harrisburg pleaded guilty last month to a dozen felony charges.
During a hearing Thursday in Midland County Circuit Court, Judge Jonathan Lauderbach sentenced Costner to spend five months in jail and ordered him to pay about $3,700 in fines and court costs.
The Michigan attorney general’s office said the Costner, 42, sold two grass carp this year in Midland to undercover officers.
Investigators say he had been driving around the southern part of the state selling the carp from store parking lots for use in ponds, where they eat nuisance plants.
Asian carp are an invasive species, and it’s illegal to possess them in Michigan

The conference was incredible...the speakers were awesome...some new info...some scary info that when you extrapolate its potential doom ...yikes....some progress in the electro barrier and a third stage on the way...they are planning to close the shipping canal if they get 10 billion in funding and some kinks worked out...2029 it will be completed....
It was along day and i am overwelmed by all the info...i took notes of key item of interest...i recorded two batteries worth of movies....the whole thing was streamed live on the internet...it may of been recorded in its entirity on the web...
report by monday....
teaser facts....the eDNA testing positives may have been from bird scat .
eDNA monitoring...live carp DNA only is present in the water for 8 hours.
the testing DNA genetic strand has been too small and if they expanded the sample of genetic helix they test then they could rule out the bird scat and other mispositives...so they are changing their sampling methodology.
Asian carp can feed and substain their weight eating blue green algae....in fact the bacteria of blue gren algae doubles its self after being passed through the carps digestive system....there is a synergy that happens when carp and bluegreen algae are in a food chain cycle....
The electro barrier has 3 sections...the test protype...one barrier set for big carp and the other barrier set for carp under 12 inches....another barrier has been approved and constructionto be completed by 2015.
The common carp have been found between the electro barriers but not the asian carp...my question ...how did the common carp get by a barrier???
Arkansas sells asian carp minnows with bait minnows across the northern US states...bait minnows with a few asian carp minnows have been getting into the lakes......
overall feeling i had at the end was the carp will occupy the great lakes in my lifetime...probably moved and put into the lakes by anglers or by fish importers.....

i know the Hamilton members see the escartment regularly....i have family in Ancaster so i see it twice a month but still i am in awe.
so having the escarpement as a backdrop for your catch may not impress so of you...for me it beats the everyday Toronto wall of condos in my regular carp pics...
-
engaged in battle....or at the fish's mercy....
-
notice the garbage bag....lead weights and fishing line and Timmies cups....the fishing Karma you get for cleaning up swims...priceless....see there are stairs...its not that bad...i have a pack on my back....
